I didn't say you were creepy. But of the 20 topics I can see on the first page of this forum, 6 of them are yours.

April is going to be crazy for a 58 year old slash... Multiple countries in multiple days??? GNR don't do that shit lmao.
Geographically speaking, multiple countries in Europe is no different than multiple states in the United States. And GNR's schedule wasn't really much different on most legs of their touring since 2016. Granted, GNR usually took at least an average of 1-2 days off in between shows. But for a 3 hour show and the sheer logistics involved for massive GNR productions, which probably require a crew 5-10 times lager than a similar crew for a Slash solo tour, that's understandable.
A stadium and a club are two different things.
Outside of a few back-to-back dates on Slash's schedule, it's not much of a deviation from what GNR has been doing for the last seven years.

I named my Fantasy Football team: The General..... Now I look stupid.
To who?! Besides the 150 people canvassing this thread, nobody else, in the WORLD, knows about, gives a shit or two f**ks what the hell 'The General' is.
Somewhere, I picture Axl and Melissa sitting in front of a laptop with popcorn and candy on a plane laughing it up over this thread. They probably yelled for Slash or Duff to come check it out, but they're too busy playing solitaire on their phones during the flight. Not even the band gives two f**cks!
We're all lunatics.

The video you're referring to is a combination of the *real* orchestral intro that was played at shows and Evader's recreation of the phone clip, which means that the part with the guitars and the vocals is not real.
Understood. Thanks for getting me caught up on the Evader version. It's really good and convincing to a layman that doesn't know the backstory.

I also for a while thought the Evader version WAS “The General.” Honestly wouldn’t have minded it, I always liked it!
It's not a bad tune. So from what I'm gathering, someone made their own version of that intro that's played at the Puerto Rico show... then somehow created convincing vocals for the rest of the song (they came up with)? I'm probably not up to speed on all the GNR CSI crap that's gone on over this whole thing.
My only guess, concocted in the last 10 minutes, is someone was really good at recreating that opening intro... but the vocals... how did they pull that off? I can see it being done today with the advent of AI... but certainly not years ago. The vocals are very, very convincing. More so than most of the AI out there today.

For the zillionth time, that is the Evader version. It’s a recreation, not the actual song
I have a life nowadays so I haven't read this entire thread. I check the forum every now and then for big news or to follow some of the live show threads... which is fun from time-to-time. So feel free to label me as an idiot, if you'd like! Hell, I'll do it. I'm an idiot.
I remember what it was like to be so obsessed with a GNR forum... so I don't blame you for being frustrated with my post.
My being an idiot aside... this "Evader" version does exactly match that opening bit from the Puerto Rico show. So if it's a "recreation", it's a pretty damned good one.

I used to get into major battles with Kaneda. They were epic. I was Matt13 for the longest time before I got banned on here for speaking out for Madison and against the forum management at that time. That was many beers ago, so I have no hard feelings anymore. Live and let live, or whatever.
I was around before this forum even got off the ground... chinesedemocracy.com was THE place to be for all things GNR. Xozi, Queenie... we're talking mid-90's. Those were the days of Limewire. The first performance of 'NuGNR' in Vegas... CD.com was BONKERS. I remember being up all night downloading songs from Limewire. I'll never forget the first time I heard 'The Blues' that night from that show. Great memories.

So guys, Axl said that we might have heard parts of The General LIVE somewhere… well, that happens to be in Puerto Rico in 2010. They played 2 minutes of The General as an intro to Chinese Democracy. So I found a live YouTube video from Puerto Rico and you can hear(if all the “Woos” and screaming allows) a 2 minute instrumental. Mods please don’t ban me, this is a public video xD. Here’s the link
This entire mystery surrounding The General has had me perplexed. There's a download that was floating around of the song years ago, believe it was on Youtube of all places. I downloaded it and stored it away with the locker leaks for safe keeping. Well, this video confirms what I have matches the tune, for sure. It's a long intro, 2min 40sec, then guitars kick in. At 3:39 Axl's unmistakable screech kicks in, "My hopes, my dreams...", full high pitch rasp. At 4:07, Axl goes to a mid-tone falsetto and sounds like a bad AI version of himself. Very robotic. That always threw me off. Just doesn't sound anything like GNR at that point. That 'robotic' Axl goes off on some tangent I can't understand... before the screeching chorus comes roaring back to life.
The song ends at 7min 25sec.
If this is indeed 'The General', I can't wait to hear what Slash and Co. did to it. And hopefully Axl 'fixed' the robotic bridge, if you can call it that.
Am I the only one with this recording? I figured everyone and their mother on this forum had it... so why is everyone acting so surprised/excited over it?
If I am the only one that has it, for some reason, by all means, let me know.

Wow I'm surprised to read so many negative comments towards Joe Rogan on a Gn'R forum, especially this one.
You shouldn't be. All those same people get their news from the mainstream media. Probably their science, too. If they're told to hate somebody by Anderson Cooper or Joe Biden, they will.
It's no surprise, and it's best to ignore them and let them learn the hard way. They all have it coming... and it really sucks when you realize you've been a brainwashed sheep for years, or even decades.

Not that Joe is the only one, but he certainly was riding high on some rather far out shit regarding COVID that was long long debunked by the time he arrived there lol. Not too like get into it fully cause honestly I am still fatigued from the Joe debate with the pressure in Spotify to drop him and it was a huge thing, but while I do get the "brings on people of different views" thing - personally I do think it can be potentially irresponsible to put known entities with rather... detrimental views and conspiracy theories such as Alex Jones (and more) and putting them in a situation that could be perceived as them having credibility or clout
I just would rather not see Axl on his podcast and based on Axl's views I don't think we really gotta worry about it anyways, not to mention the dude doesn't do 5 minute interviews much let alone a 1-3 hour one
Plus I don't know if Axl has even done DMT anyways which would eliminate a lot of what Joe would bring up
Long long debunked... by who? The WHO? FDA? NIH? CNN? MSNBC? BBC?
I bet you believed in masking too.
Natural selection.

Call me ignorant... but the only thing that I even know about this Bettencourt guy is that his last name sounds familiar. If someone asked me who 'Nuno Bettencourt' is on the street, I'd have no idea. Maybe Extreme never interested me enough to care. I also don't live and breathe rock music, nor am I a musician outside of my shower... just a nostalgic GNR nerd.
But now that I know who this guy is, he sounds like a proper douche. I'm a big fan of guys like David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, EVH and Slash (as a few examples). I think most would consider all those guys 'elite' guitar players, for what they do. I'm willing to bet most casual music fans (at least who grew up in part during the 20th century) have a general idea of who all of those guys are, too.
I'm also willing to bet that a lot of those casual fans have no idea who this clown Nuno is.
I'd put all my chips on the table and say that all of the above guys I mentioned would never, ever, come out and say they're one of the greatest guitar players to ever live. Or brag about how many magazine covers they've been on. They're among the best. They don't HAVE to.
When you have to though, you come off as a proper douche bag.
Enjoy playing with Rhianna.

Of course every single country has it's own culture, when Americans say "European" it's very irritating to me because this is like over 10 countries that are completely different, but of course that's hard to grasp when you've never left the bubble that is the US.
Here we go. Why do some Europeans (in this case, a German), always have to take shots at America? Like we're a bunch of dumb idiots with no sense of culture, stuck in a bubble? Maybe this guy is upset because Germany is 0-2 in World Wars and in both instances, were dramatically on the wrong side of history to boot.
Last time I checked, Germany is a part of what's called the European Union. You know, the union you all voted to be a part of with all of the other countries of Europe? So forgive us for calling people in the European Union, European. And, yes, we understand there's lots of different cultures in the EU. Just like there's lots of different cultures here in the states (many mirroring that of European nations).
And although I've traveled many parts of the world, so what if a lot of Americans have decided not to travel to Europe? Every 50 years or so your governments go and start some crazy world population altering war that leaves much of mainland Europe in ruins... we'll be lucky to get out of the current mess without it proliferating further. And if it does, we Americans will probably be there again to bail you guys out, again.
But that all might be hard to grasp for the guy who's probably never left the bubble that is Europe, insulting Americans on a forum for an American rock band, posting from his American iPhone or computer.

Idk... but if they can do autotune... why not this?. I can accept it if the shit sounds good and not fake like 2010 or 2006.
Just curious... are you insinuating Axl/GNR was doing something to manipulate/enhance Axl's rasp artificially when he had it those years?

If this was already posted somewhere else... please delete.
I stumbled on this by accident and read through it all. There's a TON of tid-bits about the history of the band in this three part story about the rise-and-fall of Steven Adler. It's an epic tale to say the least that brought a lot of light to things I didn't know about Steven, the band and even other artists in their circles in the 80's and 90's (one about Sam Kinison being revived from an OD at a celebrity softball game, only to go back into the game?!). Excellent read. Be sure to click through all three parts!

4 minutes ago, History2010 said:How many members on this forum were actually around for AFD? I feel like most members here discovered the band during Illusions or later. I'm sure there is a few on here who have been fans since the very beginning.
I was around. If you want the short answer, it was the Axl and Slash show.
If you want more context about that era, read below.
When WTTJ aired on MTV, it literally changed the landscape of rock music and MTV. Back then, for live broadcast music or music news, you either had your analog radio, or MTV. There wasn't the internet... no streaming services. Hell, CD's weren't even a thing yet. Cassette tapes were cutting edge tech.
So MTV was it. Top of the mountain. Anything they aired started trends. If you weren't on MTV, you didn't exist.
That said... GNR and the music video for WTTJ really changed the landscape back then. It was so raw... the lyrics and imagery so shocking... it really normalized the smutty side of rock. Aerosmith was pushing the boundary with the music video for 'Dude Looks Like a Lady'. WTTJ/GNR blew up the boundary and, really, took the world by storm.
Compared to what's available today, WTTJ looks like a child's cartoon. But I digress.
Back on topic... I felt the need to give some context into GNR's impact on TV and culture in the late 80's. That said, the star of all music videos are the lead singers. Axl was the face of GNR. Plain and simple. Slash was unique in that he got some of the screen time during guitar solos and, his hat was so iconic. So, the two of them (and Slash's hat) were Guns N' Roses. Nobody cared who wrote the music or what was done behind the scenes.
It was Axl and Slash. The other three didn't matter.
That's not how I perceive it now, but that's how I perceived it back then.
My perception now, like others have pointed out, is that it was clearly a collaborative effort. The original AFD5 was and will always be Guns N' Roses, the band. Illusions was its own incarnation of the band and cool in its own way.
After that, it's been one big mess. 1997-2014 was the Axl solo project. Nothing will convince me otherwise. Super cool in a lot of ways... but the GNR name made it so difficult for that band to function. I really think it would have been better and healthier for Axl to have dropped the GNR name making it easier to actually release music during that time. Back then though, I defended Axl's use of the name GNR and was a proponent of it. But, perceptions change. It was a solo act, no doubt.
2016 was promising. It was just great to see Axl and Slash back together. Duff was necessary, too. His backing vocals alone are a trademark for GNR. So it really gave the ILLUSION of it being GNR the BAND again.
7 years later (I can't believe I'm saying that... seven years since the reunion), and it's super safe to say that GNR has gone full KISS. A few special moments aside from 2016, but for all intents and purposes, this is GNR- the BRAND.
The current lineup could change that with a solid, all original album. Not some reworked songs from 20 years ago written by other artists. They could still appeal to the masses live with a setlist heavy with classics. But showing us hardcores that this lineup could churn out some killer tunes would go a long way in giving them credibility.
I'm not holding my breath, though.
GNR was truly one of the last acts to change the landscape of music, so I'm happy to have been around for that. An argument could be made for Nirvana, too, ushering in the grunge movement. But GNR's explosion onto the music scene was as shocking/earth moving as Elvis's hips... The Beatles on Ed Sullivan... Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk.
Gene Simmons said it best... something like, 50 years from now, we'll still be listening to Elvis, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, GNR.... how many acts can you say that about that formed after the year 2000? Coldplay... maybe?
I saw Paul McCartney live last year, and it was amazing. It was witnessing history.... like being in a dream. I would suggest to anyone, even if you're not the biggest fans of some of these legacy acts, to go see them if you can. Billy Joel just announced a tour... try to see it. It's history and the vast majority of the people at those shows know it, and it's a feeling like no other. An amazing sense of one. Go see GNR if you haven't... McCartney if he tours again. Really, anyone that toured in the 60's to the 80's, they're worth seeing. Those folks set the standard and their music will still be on the radio 50 years from now. Enjoy them while they're still here! Just in the last decade we've lost so many of them... Bowie, Prince, Petty, VanHalen. Just lost Crosby this week.
As frustrating as GNR is to us hardcores, we're really lucky to still have them around, despite how commercialized they've become. They're not quite as old as the McCartney's and the Joel's of the world, but man, how did they survive the 80's and 90's?! It's a flat out miracle! Lol.
When I went to see McCartney, I had my parents and my ten year old son with me. Three generations in awe. My son will be able to tell his kids that he saw a Beatle, live.
So cool!
Sorry for straying off topic... but I warned y'all at the top of my post. Lol.
