Oh, I vaguely remembered I had heard this claim before.

Supposedly Fortus said it during a chat he did on facebook a couple of months ago, but of course there's no evidence (link, screenshot etc.). It's very unlikely that Fortus would talk so specifically - and even if he was willing to talk about this stuff, he wouldn't remember these working titles.

I guess the real source is the same as before

It's true there was a Q&A thing but no evidence of the comments were ever shown. He could of just seen it was happening and thought "here's my chance to make shit up" If he is telling the truth perhaps he can tell us more.

Two more things to be pointed out:

    1. Since The General and Monsters share the same credits, and Monsters=Soul Monster, it's safe to say that Soul Monster came from the same Brain+writing partners sessions as The General and Seven. And The General and Soul Monster were not in Village discs in some early form, although according to Brain they were written in late 2000 and the later dates of the mixes in the locker leaks are from late 2001, iirc (so it's likely that Seven isn't there either, although there is this alleged Fortus comment). Which is further evidence that not everything that was worked on during that time period is in the locker leaks.

    2. Pele has lost the bet

They easily had another album at least, vocals and all

Dammit, can't add more reactions today. Great post. Would love to listen to the orchestral piece again, can't find it. I think someone even recreated it properly at some point. But yeah this intro to gigs was possibly a mashup. It's also clear to me The General's version we have was chopped, which further makes me think it's Slash & Duff on this version. I can totally picture a version of The General with a longer intro, and they must have cut it like they cut Hard School's intro. Like Beltrami said, those versions (leaks) have been modified from what those songs were 20 years ago.

    You can't receive PM's.

The confusion arises 1) from the fact that they have been registered as one song in credits databases and moreover the takedown notices for Monsters said that it was due to illegally uploading The General and 2) from the fact that parts of the orchestral intro can be heard on both songs.

Regarding the orchestral piece that was used as intro at concerts, I think it's possible that it was its own thing and a mashup of Beltrami's work on both The General and Leave Me Alone/Soul Monster.

I received the same takedown notice on SoundCloud weeks ago when I remastered the 2006 tour intro. Given that some of those string parts in that 2006 intro are in monsters i'm not surprised monsters was flagged as the general. Because it seems to be legally classed as being the same track, we know now that it isn't, but I didn't know that at the time of course when i uploaded it.

I can't quite write it in a way that makes sense but it seems like defensive trademarking based off of assumptions the fanbase made.

Marco Beltrami was kind enough to answer me a second time, can't believe he's so kind and took the time, what a great guy! Sadly he doesn't remember Monsters former name. He does remember a song being quite long but unsure if it was The General or another one. But if it was, it's not The General we have, as apparently there was a longer song he worked on (but he's unsure whether that long song was The General back then, maybe it's Seven or another one we haven't heard).

Just to be clear, he did listen to the leaks, I wanted to make sure he understood and could compare with what he remembers, and what we have has been modified from when he worked on those, so I guess it's hard for him to properly remember specific former names. But he does recognize those two songs & his work, and they weren't a single song back then (just like we have a hard time understanding how they could form a single song, as it is). The instrumental part isn't meant to form a continuity between this version of The General, and this version of Monsters, both instrumental were specific creations of his. Each 8 songs he's worked on/arranged had a specific arrangement meant for a particular song.

So it almost confirms for me that Monsters is indeed Soul Monster. And 100% confirms that those "The General" and "Monsters" we have are different songs.

I hope this clarifies things for everyone, now I can only hope Axl will someday clarify more things for us, and 100% confirm this is Soul Monster.

Can't wait for December 8th. Considering the credits things stating "The General and Monsters" as a single song, not everyone agreeing it's Slash & Duff on both songs, we might be in for more surprises! In "worst case scenario", we'll have a better mix/audio quality.

Good man sir, well done for showing the initiative to get the info from the horses mouth

    When was that?

Oh god maybe two month's ago? There was a post on his FB page about it. If I remember right someone (I a think a woman ) posted that she was his manager and that people should submit questions or something. I knew it was happening but forgot all about it until someone mentioned the D tune thing.

Eh? What? When? Never heard any of this before.

It was a facebook chat thing that he did. As others have said there are no screen shots of him saying anything. But he certainly did do the chat as I remember his manager posting on his facebook channel about it before it happened.

I am Moricone1, and I posted these jams 15 years ago from the 06-07 Tour.

Some of them sound like well oiled instrumentals

Yeah you have a version of the Piano Moving Jam up there. Here is a version of it i cleaned up

They played it a few times in 06/07, i'm pretty sure it probably is a song

So, on another Guns N'Roses Fan Website, an Admin said something like,"You should check out TWAT, it's a really good song." I went to YouTube and looked up ,"TWAT," and didn't find too many songs called TWAT but I did find MANY songs called There Was A Time!" 🤣 I then thought,"Oh, TWAT is There Was A Time!" 🤣 I told the Admin this and he and I both had a good laugh about it! 🤣 In my defense, I could see Guns N'Roses releasing a song called TWAT, about a REALLY douchebag tool . 🤔

I went to a video site and looked up "TWAT" as well.... But it wasn't youtube :D

I JUST read Wendi's last posts like literally ONE minute ago and found out she was upset about Shacklemyre leaving. So, for over two months, I was completely in the dark on why Wendi just suddenly stopped posting and even visiting cold turkey, out of the clear blue. 😬 It hurts however since she's my Friend and I wish she would have told me in private message that she didn't want to visit or post anymore and would have at least given me her personal email so we could still chat even if she wasn't posting or visiting MYGNR Forum anymore. 🥺

I had my reasons for leaving. I did not know that it would lead to Wendi leaving and I apologise to you if you have found it hard, was not my intention at all. As Jan mentioned she may come back.

It was mostly Duff related material and they notified Duff, who went and collected it. Here is the photo:

Ampex 456 Dats. Very fragile, if you don't bake them before you try to play them they can tear them selves apart.

That DAT was dated 18 of April 95, that's one day before the Oklahoma bombing that inspired another song.

I do know. It's different songs.  The general was a long song, that was decided to be split into 2 songs for separate  B side releases.... hence, Generals N......Monsters.

But as always, wtf do I know?!? Lol

    More than most.

This could explain why the Perhaps single does not advertise Monsters at all.
