The songwriting in Nirvana is just generally superior to that of Green Day (as much as I don't really like either band).

Probably one of the most boring bands to hit the mainstream since Keane and Maroon 5.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with this album.

Dream Theater kicks ass. My favourite progressive metal band out there.

Progressive Metal would have to be my favourite, right next to Classic, Thrash, and Power Metal.

I don't really like them all that much. As far as mainstream rock goes, they're pretty good. But on a larger scope of things, they're kind of mediocre. Hopefully their next album greatly surpasses Contraband.

I'd have to say the majority of kids today like that boy-band brand of "punk" and it's many incarnations (all of which should rot in hell).

Millencolin by a mile. I'm not a big fan of any of the bands that have come out of these genres, but of the choices I dislike Millencolin the least (ugh...NOFX... ).

People have a strong opinion about it because you use illogical arguments. It still doesn't give them the right to start name-calling or attacking you just because of your opinion. I hate Green Day, but I respect your position as a fan.

Cant stand em, i much prefer a real band like Silverchair thats been around for much longer, draws upon more influences and will outlast that shitty fake punk band green day by a zillion trillion miles. Green day even used to sing about girls and to me that is just gay. Why dont they just go away? millions and millions of people buy their albums, but thats not the point, we here at the forum think they are a bunch of pussies and if i ever see Billie Joe Armstrong im gonna kick his ass.

Nice use of sarcasm. Even though your whole statement is obviously dripping with it, I'd like to point out a few things anyway.

Green Day singing about girls isn't why people dislike their music or hate them. Nobody cares that they "used to sing about girls". That doesn't factor into how much a majority of people hate Green Day. They hate Green Day because they're Green Day, period.

The point about millions and millions of people buying their albums doesn't matter that much either when we're talking about whether we like or dislike Green Day. So what if they sell a lot of albums, that doesn't make me like them anymore then I do now. All that means is that they're popular with a lot of people (mostly youth). Once again, how does this factor into how much a person likes or dislikes Green Day? I'm sure...no, I know Green Day has a lot of fans; I still hate them though and it doesn't change that fact.

Nobody ever suggested making a petition because nobody cares that much (as well as people being smart enough to know it's a waste of time and won't work).

It sounds to me like you're an agitated, frustrated Green Day fan that can't get over the fact that people exist that don't like Green Day (especially for reasons you don't agree with or you think are wrong). Grow up, and respect other people's opinions. I think Green Day blows, but I respect the fact that you're a fan and that you obviously don't think they blow.

Just because Green Day are having more success then Silverchair doesn't make Green Day any less shittier then they are. So Green Day sells a lot more records, big deal. Britney Spears sells a lot of records, does that suddenly make her music better then an artist/band that doesn't sell as much or see as much success?

Silverchair can be kind of boring at times, but I'd take a bore-fest much better then a suck-fest (like American Idiot). Before the Green Day fans start forming a mob, I have to say that I have my reasons for hating Green Day.

1. I'm not a fan of their simplistic, shallow music.

2. I'm not a fan of their brand of left-wing garbage spewing out of American Idiot.

3. I'm not a fan of punk music (not that this has anything to do with Greenday because Green Day are a pop-punk/pop-rock band; I'm just saying it's a disadvantage to them considering punk is the genre they're trying to imitate).

4. I despise their "We're the only real rock n' roll band left" attitude they play off in interviews.

5. I'm generally not a fan of their brand of angst which is carefully marketed toward pre-teen/teen girls.

6. I don't know why, but I don't like dudes who wear eyeliner. Maybe it's just a thing I have...like my hatred/fear of clowns.

7. That scowl Billie Joe puts on...ugh...I just wanna smack the angst out of him.

Those are my reasons. They might not be good reasons and you probably think they're wrong reasons, but they're mine regardless. See? I sort of backed up my argument.

I'm also in a band and my entire band are HUGE Guns N' Roses nuts. They are our #1 influence followed by Aerosmith.

They write some catchy music, nothing I would buy, though. I don't turn them off when they come on the radio, unless it's Boulevard of Broken Dreams or Time of Your Life.
