Saw these guys open for the Black Crowes last week and finally remembered their name because they were great!
-
Been listening to the album a whole lot lately. Only song that still sounds crappy to me is Danger Line and a few parts in Fiction when Shadows sings all fucky and weird; That annoys me. Everything else is great, though. Welcome To The Family always gets stuck in my head, along with Nightmare.
The parts in Fiction you're thinking of are probably where The Rev is singing. He recorded rough vocals for the song before he died, so they stuck 'em on. That guy always had an odd voice.
If its the middle part with just the organ then yeah that's Jimmy. That song is everything I ever hoped it would be. And having him on the track, especially singing that part, with how he felt about that particular song and dying 3 days after turning it in...it gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to that song. The lyrics for that part are, "I hope its worth it, out on the highway, I hope you'll find your own way when I'm not with you" Its an absolutely amazing track to me and I really hope they play it when I go see them on the Uproar Festival.

Did anyone get tickets for this?
A bunch of us bought our presale tickets for Toronto. It's gonna be awesome!
Im driving to the Salt Lake show for this...no way am I missing the first A7X tour without Rev. Disturbed and Stone Sour are just enormous bonuses.

The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve

I haven't heard this song before, and hopefully I never will again.
I disagree. I dug it. Kind of a U2 meets Radiohead kind of vibe.

Could someone tell me a really asskicking, breathtaking, high quality song off this album? I've listened to some songs (I forgot which ones) on their youtube channel and there wasn't a single song that made me understand all this hype. It was mostly a bore.
Make me like this supergroup! Make me like this singer's voice, as he sounds bored most of the time.
Gunman...hands down.

Must not listen...must not listen...must not listen.
God damn its hard to wait another week for this album with all the studio tracks coming out.

I saw Pennywise last year with sum41 the vandals and bowling for soup
the band wasn't that great to be honest
I would respectfully disagree
-
I saw this. I've never heard of them. Recommended tunes?
I started with Full Circle which is a great starting off point. Dedicated to their first bassist who committed suicide. Its darker then any of their other albums as well. The last verse of Bro Hymn still gives me chills to this day.
Straight Ahead would be another great album to start with. With My Own Country, Can't Believe It, and Victim of Reality.
Really you can't go wrong with any of their stuff. Their last couple albums got a bit more alt rock and more "radio friendly". Anything up to Land of the Free? is classic Pennywise.

I have no idea how many of you know who Pennywise even is, or how influential there are/were but their lead singer just left the band. This band defined my teenage years. I'm going to regret turning down tickets to see them last year, because I figured they would be around again shortly. Supposedly the other 3 guys are continuing on, but it isn't going to be the same without Jim. This is a sad day for punk

Gravity is probably my favorite of their albums...'Not Enough' is just a killer tune. So is 'Do You Like It?'

It wasn't this week, but it was a pretty recent episode (I dont know whos show, it could be letterman, conan, ferguson, or fallon) but it was an african american guitarist that played a slow jazz song, with a backing band, with electric guitar being the main lead instrument
sorry thats all the info i have on him... but any help would be appreciated
Was it The Roots?

The Gaslight Anthem - '59 Sound
Looked at the album because so many people had mentioned it here in this thread...Fuck thats a great album! Almost has a Social Distortion feel to it.

Kinda funny that alot of people compare Beautiful Creatures to GnR and now 2 of their former guitarists, Alex Grossi & Michael Thomas, play with Adler's Appetite. I dunno, just kinda struck me as kinda funny.
I saw Beautiful creatures @ Ozzfest back like 7 or 8 years ago. They were good. I thought they'd get bigger than they did, I guess it didn't help that their label dropped them at the same time they released an album. I remember when I saw them, my first thought was "Holy shit! That's the singer from Bang Tango!"
Back in 99, I thought Buckcherry was gonna be the next GnR.
Don't forget DJ Ashba played on their debut cd as well.
-
Well that's not bad at all. Catchy as fuck.
-
It leaked last week about a month and a half before its release. Its standard P Roach stuff, so its pretty good shit. Any other fans?

I saw these guys on the 2007 Poison tour. They were okay.
My first thought was "This says it all" but then I thought of AIC and decided it would be best to not say that per se.
?
Assuming he was referring that Alice In Chains once were on a poison tour? I have no idea if that's true, but that's what I took from it.
when [and why!?] the fuck did alice in chains tour with poison? doubt that...
"Early in 1990, the label released the We Die Young EP as a promotional device and the song became a hit on metal radio, setting the stage for the summer release of the group's debut, Facelift. Alice in Chains supported the album by opening for Van Halen, Poison, and Iggy Pop, and it became a hit, going gold by the end of the year. As the band prepared their second album, they released the largely acoustic EP Sap in 1991 to strong reviews."

Damn the Torpedos from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is the best album of that era by far.

I love alternative country. Drive-By Truckers are an awesome band, even if their name leaves some what to be desired.
Like abit of Johnny Cash etc aswell.
Hell yeah the Drive-By Truckers are great! Reckless Kelly too. All the Alternative Country is great

Cross Canadian Ragweed
They are a little bit more alt country but are fantastic live. Seen them a couple of times.

cool show huh??...glad you liked it!
Did you pick up the live cd?
I was in so much bliss from the show that I didn't remember about the cd until I got home last night. So I'm pretty disappointed about that. Their cover of the Joplin song was killer. Everything was great though so its hard for me to pick a "favorite moment."

Zint wasn't lying when he was talking about the concert, it blew my expectation away! It was pretty much the same setlist as the one he posted. It really was a great show! I actually really liked the opener We Are the Fury. I met them before the show and they were really cool, so that might have had something to do with it, but I think they did phenomenally well for an opener. Go see this show if you get a chance! Tickets were only 16 bucks for this, completely worth it!
