  1. I really don't love Atlas Shrugged.  It's very consistent with some of what I consider the weaker songs from the Chinese Democracy era...no real chorus or hook....some good parts but it meanders.  I feel the same way about Prostitute and the General.  To me Monsters is far and away the strongest track of the potential new releases and would be an anchor on a new album.  I think State of Grace has some potential, and we had no idea about Monsters so maybe there are more quality songs we haven't heard.  Even so an album like this is solid:

    Absurd

    Hard School

    Perhaps

    The General

    Monsters

    State of Grace

    Atlas Shrugged

    1-3 more songs

I am seemingly in the minority but I absolutely love Absurd....I think the instrumental in that song is among the best of any GNR.  It is a weird song but in some ways a GNR original that would fit on Spaghetti Incident.  I think Perhaps is Great, Hard Skool very solid and Monsters is a top 10 GNR song.  The rest are just okay...I think the General is a bit weak which is probably why they made it a B side.  It has some interesting things to it.

This "slow drip" process is a bit weird and takes getting used to but in some ways is more exciting than getting one album.  It woudl be nice if it wasn't over a 4 year period but I will take what I can get.

Also, I highly doubt they will call it CD 2 or anything like that.  I think there is a significant chance it is titled "Guns N Roses" which was a rumor awhile ago.

this is the video of them rehearsing Hard Skool that was on Meegan's IG story for at least 2 hours last night

Edit: it was 2 sections of story.. 30 seconds or so with audio and video of the hardschool breakdown/ bridge. Mods delete if not allowed

This is not a rehearsal.  That is a studio version of the song that it sounds like someone recorded.  Those are the exact vocals from the original leak with new guitar parts and Duff signing “too Hard School” in the chorus.

I really like what Slash/Duff have added to the song but that sounds like someone had their phone out and recorded someone playing the final version.

100% though that is not a rehearsal…it is a recording of a studio version with a reworked arrangement and instrumentals but keeping Acl’s original vocals.

I love it snd can’t wait to hear a clean version…

  3. Did I miss it or in all of this garbage did no one post Scott Weiland's epic response to Axl? If not, here it is:

"Get in the ring. Go to the gym, motherfucker, or if you prefer, get a new wig, motherfucker. I think I'll resist the urge to 'stoop' to your level. Oh shit, here it comes, you fat, botox-faced, wig-wearin' fuck! O.K., I feel better now.

"Don’t think for a second we don't know where those words came from. Your unoriginal, uncreative little mind — the same mind that had to rely on its bandmates to write melodies and lyrics. Who's the fraud now, bitch?

"Damn, I couldn't imagine people writing for me. How many albums have you put out, man, and how long did it take the current configuration of this so-called 'band' to make this album? How long? And without the only guys that validated the name.

"How dare you! Shame on you! How dare you call our bass player 'spineless?' We toured our album over a year and a half. How many shows have you played over the last ten years? Oh, that's right — you bailed out on your long-awaited comeback tour, leaving your remaining fans feeling, shall we say, a trifle miffed?! I won't even list what I've accomplished because I don't need to. What we're talking about here is a frightened little man who once thought he was king, but unfortunately this king without his court is nothing but a memory of the asshole he once was."

Scott pretty much owned him. And frankly, I don't think any of it was incorrect. Axl is fat. Axl wore a wig. Axl used botox quite clearly. Axl took forever to put out an album and has put out 1 in 20 years. Axl is currently touring under the name that Slash, Duff, Matt, and others helped make famous.

Anyone who has heard Slash interviewed and seen how well liked he is versus Axl's crazy rants can't seriously believe that Axl doesn't at least play a major role in all this. Axl is a narcissistic child. He certainly is brilliant in many ways, but with such a trail of burned bridges, I think it is pretty safe to say that he is difficult to get along with. Constantly late to shows, has churned through two guitarists after Slash (Buckethead, Robin and presumably Bumblefoot), gone through countless managers, accused of beating his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend....shows up to concerts clearly out of shape...doesn't rehearse with the rest of the band....I mean at what point do some people actually admit that Axl has serious issues and stop making excuses for him?

It is a shame because his stubborn, narcissistic, paranoid lazy behavior prevented a really great band from doing some great things over the last 20 years.

  4. This person is out of her fucking mind. She had a bunch of posts years ago....all of these bizarre claims where somehow everything Axl ever wrote ties back to her...he wears cryptic T-Shirts that are messages to her, etc.

He used to visit them in Australia...what the fuck. She is absolutely out of her fucking mind. I remember that some people believed her and would write "cool story!" when it was obvious to anyone with a brain that she was delusional and/or lying.

This person definitely is either bored and likes to lie for fun or is seriously mentally ill.

  5. The Greatest Hits albums sucks. Too many covers!

Actually, I don't think a band with only 3 proper albums of original material needs a greatest hits release.

Agreed. "Sympathy for the Devil" was far from a hit. It was played on hardcore rock stations for a couple of weeks but never caught on....mainly because it was a completely uneccessary cover of a song that should never have been touched.

In my opinion GNR messed up on the Illusions by picking the wrong songs for singles. "The Garden" and "Garden of Eden" were poor choices...."Dead Horse" was questionable as well.

They missed an opportunity with "Civil War." They put it on an obscure album before the Illusions came out and never released it as a single. Personally I think it would have been the biggest hit on the album.

The other miss in my opinion was not releasing "Pretty Tied Up" as a single. That was a song that went largely unheard, but people who heard it loved it....I thought it was a very video friendly/radio friendly song.

In my opinion the singles off of the Illusions should have been:

    Civil War

You Could Be Mine (was a single)

    Don't Cry (was a single)

Live and Let Die (was a single)

    Pretty Tied Up

    November Rain (was a single)

    Estranged (was a single)

Spaghetti Incident was also really a pretty big miss....only hardcore fans bought it and nothing was really a "hit"....a lot of people saw "Since I Don't Have You" as a sell out and most people were saturated with GNR in 1993 (as hard as that is to believe now).

They should have taken a break and returned in 1996 or 1997 with a back to their roots rock album the way Metallica returned with Load. Instead of course they imploded and we are left with the joke that is GNR today.

  6. I was watching the dvd of "Welcome to the Videos" and as the videos got more outrageous with Axl kind of acting, I was wondering if Axl ever thought of going into acting like so many other musicians have?

Does anyone know if Axl was offered any acting roles or not?

I guess none of us might actually know, but after seeing Axl in November Rain, don't Cry, Estranged and Since I don't have you, I thought he would be a natural at acting.

    Anyway, just a thought.

Probably because he is really lazy.

  7. I can't imagine more than 1,000 people in the entire US going to see this movie.

100 cities. 10 people at each show. $10 each. $100,000 not bad for a show that was all paid for by a successful tour.

It's not as if there was a budget set out that they need to recover the concert costs. Combined with the blu ray and app sales I reckon they will easily break the profit margin on reletivly cheap filming & distribution costs.

Even if your math wasn't terrible I can't imagine that $ 100K in sales is enough to come close to breaking even on this.

I think if they gave away tickets on the street corner you would be lucky if 1,000 people made the effort to get to the movie theater to watch ths.

  8. Honestly nobody really cares.

I hope everyone in this band leaves. It is a joke...Axl has dragged the GNR name through the mud for the last 18 years. I hope goofy Ashba and his bad Slash impression go too.

The only thing that can save this band for me is the return of the original members, which will never happen.

  9. It seems to be as simple as Izzy being gone and Axl needed someone to write with. The band had completely stalled by then with Axl and Slash being at their throats, and Axl probably hoped they could rally around making music with Paul being the the catalyst. According to Axl the rest of the band (aka Slash and Duff) did nothing to make things proceed and Slash had been gone for quite a while focusing on his own project (Snakepit). I guess it was a desperate, ill-fated and badly executed attempt from Axl. It didn't go down well with particularly Slash who were already pretty pissed at Axl; breaking the illusion of a band of brothers by dominantly inserting an outsider really pissed him off. In normal circumstances it shouldn't have, because the band had at this sage gone through some changes (Slash had grudgingly accepted the entry of Dizzy), but at this point Slash was so opposed to Axl that it broke the camel's back.

I love the people who refuse to accept that Axl might actually be a problem. Let's recap this guy's history:

    • Been accused of beating his ex wife and former girlfriend
    • Has lost three lead guitarists (Slash, Buckethead, Finck)
    • Has gone through at least 6 managers....all of whom he claimed weren't competent in some way
    • at least two hours late to every show
    • Had his "comeback" tour cancelled by the label for refusing to show
    • Took 10+ years on an album that was finished years below and thus wasted the time, energy and career of several bandmates
    • Shows up fat and out of shape to shows
    • Has let his most important career asset, his voice, slip to the point of being embarrassing
    • Admits that he doesn't show up to rehearsals
    • Lied to fans (claimed a video for better, gave release dates, etc.)
    • Has released one album of new material in 22 years

I'm sure Slash, Izzy, Duff, Matt and company have their issues. But there is one common denominator to all of the issues....Axl Rose. He has turned into a joke. Slash isn't a joke. People still consider him an icon. Maybe his new music isn't awesome, but he isn't laughed at. Axl is a joke touring under the name of the people who he demonizes. He is a hypocrite...badmouthing the old band but happy to profit playing more than 50% of his set list (and the only songs people want to hear) on the backs of what they created.

Anyone who could seriously think that Axl is anything less than 90% at fault for the state of GNR today is kidding themselves. It started happening during the User Your Illusion era and it became intolerable. The guy can't go onstage on time. He can't show up to rehearsals. He can't put out music. He is late for everything. He can't take criticism or accountability so he surrounds himself with sycophants; housekeepers and fans are now his inner circle because anyone who actually objectively gives him any feedback is considered an enemy. Anything that goes wrong with Guns N Roses is everyone else's fault, even though Axl has put himself in complete control of everything Guns N Roses.

This band is at the end. It is a complete tragedy and one of the greatest wastes of potential in our lifetime....these guys could have been the Rolling Stones of a generation, but Axl's narcissism became too much to control and has turned this into basically a touring cover band. That's all they are...nothing more. The reason the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame didn't want the new band at the ceremony is because they don't belong at the ceremony. That would be if Michael Jordan wanted the Washington Wizards to go in the hall of fame wth him along with the Chicago Bulls...just stupid.

Now there is some goofball with a top hat doing a bad Slash imitation who has never written a good song in his life on stage with a bunch of patsies taking money to pretend to be a band that they are not. Axl is obese, out of shape and a shadow of his former self. He gets out to South America every two years to pay the bills and now has found a home in Vegas with Carrottop and other B artists and sideshow curiosities.

The handful of people who come on this board to unconditionally back Axl in many cases weren't even alive to witness GNR in their prime and have not watched this evolve. Those who have seem to be hanging onto something that doesn't exist anymore...."what I thought was true before were lies I couldn't see......" The lyrics are true. It sucks because a lot of time and energy has been wasted hoping Axl would deliver but he will not. He is an extremely flawed individual whose ego overshadows his incredible talent and he is too stubborn to get out of his own way.

  10. Slash absolutely nailed it. You can see the anger in his face when he talks about this.

I'm not sure how many of you were actually alive and old enough to appreciate this era..but this cover was absolutely unnecessary and accomplished nothing for the band.

Somewhere toward the end of the Illusions is where Axl really started to slip into the insane state he is in today....I think "Sympathy for the Devil" was when he jumped the shark.

I'm going to recap where I believe Axl started to lose his mind and made some questionable decisions:

-Putting "My World" on Use Your Illusion II without anyone else's permission from the band

-Two versions of "Don't Cry"....really very unneccessary

-A horn section and backup singers on the 1992-1993 leg of the tour

-The whole album "The Spaghetti Incident".....GNR had already done covers of "Live and Let Die" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".....releasing an entire album of covers was a downright bizarre move that nobody but hardcore fans appreciated

-The Sympathy for the Devil cover....as Slash stated, this was a disaster....this song did nothing in the US...the Stones song couldn't be improved...Axl basically did what he wanted with it without the permission of the rest of the band

-"Oh My God" in 1999.....nobody outside of a handful of people in this forum thought this was anything but garbage...a huge disappointment

-The MTV appearance in 2002....Axl's voice was horrible....he embarrassed the rest of the band

-Aborted 2003 tour...a missed opportunity by where there was still a window of acceptance for the music

-Waiting until November 2008 for Chinese Democracy release....this whole release was a disaster....no promotion, picking a crappy album cover when the other artwork was fantastic; not releasing singles which might have been hits (This I Love)....no videos....just a horrible mess

-Hiring his stupid housekeeper and her son as his manager....these bush league amateurs continue to run the band into the ground

This band is a joke today. They are basically a shadow of what they were...it is basically the Guns N Roses travelling revue. What was once one of the coolest rock bands of all time has been systematically destroyed and turned into a joke by Axl....I think it became real to Slash in 1994 that it was happening when Sympathy for the Devil came out and you can see his frustration as it was going up in flames.

  11. "Civil War", Use Your Illusion II

    And in my first memories

    They shot Kennedy

I went numb when I learned to see

So I never fell for Vietnam

Look at the phrase "they shot Kennedy". It just isn't compatible with the establishment's lone gun theory. Axl doesn't say "When Lee shot Kennedy", he specifically says "they". That would insinuate that Axl finds the coup d'etat explanation more plausible--immortalized in films such as Oliver Stone's JFK.

Axl also says that he "learned to see". Again, that would hint towards Axl finding the conspiracy theory more plausible. Most people accept the explanation provided by the government, whereas Axl is saying that through this event he "learned to see".

Moreover, the conspiracy claims that Jack Kennedy disgruntled his generals by adopting a more progressive analysis towards Vietnam. Henceforth, they become part of a tiered plot to assassinate the president. They wanted to sustain the operation in Vietnam, and Lyndon Johnson permitted that.

The Spaghetti Incident?, Live Era and Chinese Democracy were released circa Kennedy's anniversary.

Axl was about 18 months old when JFK was murdered you idiots. I doubt it had any impact whatsoever on him.

  12. GlideMagazine.com: How does it make you feel when people constantly criticize GUNS and your bandmates so unfairly?

Fortus: I get it. I understand people want what they remember the band as being. A lot of times, people have a hard time accepting. Fans of FLEETWOOD MAC before they got Stevie Nicks, if they were fans of Peter Green, they didn't get it. Most of those people, it took them a long time to accept FLEETWOOD MAC as a different band because it wasn't Peter Green. The same deal with the SANTANA band and all the changes that band went through. For people to accept VAN HALEN with Sammy Hagar singing, even though that was their most successful time and they sold more records with Sammy Hagar, a lot of people that liked VAN HALEN from the beginning didn't want to hear anything but David Lee Roth on it. Same thing with GENESIS. I have a hard time listening to GENESIS with Phil Collins singing after Peter Gabriel. It just goes on and on, the list is quite long. And I think it's harder when you change singers, because it's such a huge voice of the music and really that's like the most personal aspect and connection to a band is generally through the singer. And when you change that, it changes the character of the band. And in the same respect, changing anybody else makes it different as well. And it's a different band. A lot of people accept it and a lot of people don't. And that's OK.

What is missing here is that the bands he uses in his analogies are not even close to the situation of GNR. The '87-'93 GNR was enormous and sold millions upon millions of albums....the "New" Guns N Roses has had only a small fraction of the success of the older version.

He uses bands in his example like Genesis and Fleetwood Mac....Fleetwood Mac was much, much bigger after Stevie Nicks joined and Genesis was much bigger without Peter Gabriel and with Phil Collins signing. Van Halen was huge both with Sammy Hagar and with David Lee Roth.

The new Guns N Roses has accomplished almost nothing...they put out one album that was poorly received and has charted and sold only a fraction of the amount of the 5 albums released by the old GNR. Not only that, they are touring on the strength of the old material. Most people who come to see them are there to see songs not created by this lineup.

The analogy by Fortus is downright stupid as it is comparing people who successfully transformed their band with lineup changes to what most perceive as a significant downgrade in the case of GNR (outside of a handful of neurotic psychopaths in this forum).

  13. Let's kindly stick with reality, peeps. The meat and potatoes of what made GNR a one time great act died decades ago. Without the "half-man, half-beast" Slash, Duff "the king of beers" Mckagan, and that shy Stradlin guy, we are stuck with the never ending pile of shit of what has now become known as Axl Rose's life post late 90s.

My girl and I went and saw them at the LA Coliseum a couple of years back and Axl sounded horrible. HORRIBLE. I don't know the names of the people that supposedly make up this new GNR, but after witnessing them play for over 2 hours, I can say with the utmost certainty that I don't really care to know. I know that they weren't Slash. I know that they didn't provide that once-in-a-lifetime euphoria that I feel every time I see the video for Sweet Child O Mine, I know that I couldn't bare to hear one more fucking wank ass solo from a guy who looked like he had a bird's nest taking refuge in his beard (I kept referring to the guy as "Not Slash" to my GF).

Being affiliated with the entertainment industry, I know that Axl Rose is nothing but a mere afterthought in the year 2013. About a year ago, I had mentioned to a friend/colleague how I thought a reality show featuring Axl and Slash's separate lives would be pure entertainment and a helluva ratings grabber. If I had an opportunity to produce it, I'd title it "Life Ain't No Roses".

I'm dead serious about Axl and the reality tv deal. His life would be a great open book that could provide seasons of great entertainment. If he's not interested, I'd at least like to get back the $500 back that I pissed away at the Coliseum that night. You were waaaaay off on those high notes, bro. And Slash and the original crew were noticeably absent.

    Signed,

A One Time Fan Who Wants To See the Real Band Again

This sums up the way most people feel.

  14. Of course the past is in the past -- where else would it be?

I never suggested the past wasn't in the past, I was pointing out the unfairness of bringing up grudges about things Axl did more than a decade ago in a discussion about whether we should be negative or positive about the current situation.

More than a decade ago? He was three hours late to a show I went to in 2012. Everyone there was pissed because his fan base is people in their 40's who have to get to work in the morning. Yes, we know what we are getting into...but it still sucks.

    1 album in 15 years.

    No communication.

The reviews for Guns N Roses are horrible....I am sure you can selectively find good ones.....the Rock N Rio yellow raincoat show was a disaster...as was "Bridge School."

And the guy denounces all of the people who were in the old band...yet he is very cool profiting off of their music and continuing to play it over and over again every tour with a bunch of musicians who did not create it.

Plain and Simple...Axl Rose is a joke now and he has earned it.

  15. Some of you people are out of your minds. Axl absolutely deserves the negativity he gets. He is a brilliant musician, but he is probably the #1 least fan friendly artist of all time. To recap:

    • He is a minimum of 2 hours late to every show
    • He kept the name "Guns N Roses" despite only keeping the keyboardist from the original lineup....and while insisting he hold on the name he has released one album of new music in 15 years
    • He rarely rehearses before tours and shows up fat and out of shape at the beginning of most of them (see Rock N Rio in his yellow raincoat)....as a performer if you don't perform well you will face criticism
    • He refused to show his face at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame which many fans would have appreciated
    • He has cycled through multiple lead guitarists who could not work with him (Slash, Zakk Wylde, Buckethead, Robin Finck)
    • He has cycled through multiple managers who weren't to his liking
    • He has been charged on two occasions for assaulting women
    • He no showed to two concerts in 2002; the last one causing the tour to be cancelled and offered no explanation or apology to the fans who showed (I was one of them)

You have it backwards. Axl's lack of music and complete disrespect for his fans has caused the negativity and it is well deserved. He has turned this band into a Spinal Tap like joke and everything he gets he deserves, the same way he deserves all of the praise he got in the late 80's and early 90's.

  16. OK, now I gotta agree with Beta... Stop complaining! You have all been crying about information, and when they tell us they're trying to get it done to tell us what's going on, this is your reaction? You think this is their fault? Come on, don't you know Axl Rose? It looks like you have not been his fan for over years...

The paragraph looks like it's written by a third grader. If you are a professional public relations person, you proofread what you send and it's typically well written.

Secondly, sending a paragraph with no information saying that you are figuring out your "strategy" to share information looks like you don't know you are doing.

Many people are of the opinion that Beta and Fernando do not have the qualifications and experience to manage Guns N Roses and are doing an amateur job. I think this paragraph from Fernando does nothing to dissuade anyone with that opinion and only reinforces that these guys are in way over their head.

I mean seriously, what organization sends out something like that. "We are working on a strategy to share new information we will get it to you when we have it please bear with us thanks bye."

Imagine how they manage and run everything else. These people are incompetent and we all know it and anyone with a brain can see the direct correlation of Axl's downfall with the emergence of his sycophant house keeper and her 30 year old live in son as the controlling forces of the Guns N Roses empire.

Seriously...this band started out as a bunch of bad asses in LA rehearsing in a storage facility kicking ass on the sunset strip. Now it is run by a Brazilian Housekeeper sending "tweets" and bad facebook posts who have nothing to do with Rock and who played no part in the original success of the band. The only connection Beta has to old Guns N Roses is that she used to be Stephanie Seymour's housekeeper. Axl obviously couldn't have Stephanie so his last connection to her is her housekeeper who has now managed to exploit the shit out of an insecure mentally ill celebrity.

Yes, this management team is phenomenal. I'm really looking forward to their "strategy." My guess is that they will share with us how Guns N Roses Axl Rose's Travelling Guns N Roses Tribute Band will be playing Rock N Rio and touring in some foreign country or to 1,500 user venues in the US on the never ending "Chinese Democracy Tour" that has been stretched out over 13 years. Exciting!
