The Kinks-Have we got any fans here?

I know that The Kinks are probably too quirky for a lot of people but I was wondering if there was any other Kinks fans on here. Ray Davies is my favorite lyricist of all time. Here are a couple of my favorite lesser known Kinks songs.

I don't have a lot to say about the Kinks, but I did post the following recently:

The Kinks have some cool songs and are another band I might look into soon. We used to have State of Confusion on vinyl (probably still do somewhere) and I liked a bunch of songs on it. Don't Forget to Dance is beautiful actually. If I recall it came out in 1984 or so and this is probably considered past their prime...but I enjoyed this album quite a bit.

Start out by buying "Muswell Hillbillies" and "Lola vs. the Powerman & the Money-Go-Round, Pt. 1".

I love the kinks, grew up listnin to them. Such an influential band, so english, u can hear their influence on so many bands, the jam, blur, kieser chiefs(though im not a fan). I remember there was thing in the 90s where lyricists had to read a sample of their lyrics for somethin i cant remember what, it was around the time of brit pop when blur were massive and damon albarn had to read some of his lyrics and he just had ray davies read waterloo sunset. I fukin love the kinks songs so much though, theyre just so english, victoria, dedicated follower of fasion, the days, fantastic band.

I love The Kinks ^_^

So influential and just awesome.

My favourite songs aside from all the obvious are Come Dancing, David Watts, Stop Your Sobbing and I'm Not Like Everybody Else.

Excellent band, anyone ever seen them live?

Never had the chance myself.

Kinks are cool, but Ray Davies is not the best songwriter of alltime.

That award goes to Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Esate), Bono (U2), and Quincey Jones.

That would be the SunnyDRE's favourite songwriters award, not the best songwriters of all time award. ;)

Haven't gotten around to listen properly to them. I've got some best of CD lying around, that I have given a few spins, though.

Check out "Muswell Hillbillies" and "Lola versus Powerman and the Money-Go-Round, Part One".

Bump

I just listened to this album (well it's a compilation, not a true album):

There are some great tunes. My favourites would have to be:

Dedicated Follower of Fashion

Sunny Afternoon

Lola

Don't Forget to Dance

Waterloo Sunset

Well Respected Man

Death of a Clown

Days

Autumn Almanac

A lot of the first part of this album (save a couple of songs) reminded me of Paul McCartney's work, which I'm just not all that into. From song 8-20 though, much better.

Love them. My favoritesong is Celluloid Heroes.

Talking about which, do you remember this thread?

I regret I voted for Steve Vai. His version is great and all, but it got nothing on The Kinks classic. I was really into Vai there for a period, so I guess it was because of that I voted on him.

The most criminally underrated band of the British Invasion i reckon. Ray Davies is a fucking genius. Probably one of the greatest songwriters rock n roll has ever known. Favorite song: All Day And All Of The Night. Love that riff. If i'm not mistaken it was lifted by The Sex Pistols and The Doors. I think even by The Clash for that song 1977. The first band also, to my mind at least, to really Englishize rock n roll and do it well.
