Snake-Pit
Sorry, but.. .Hackers, pop-ups, hashtags and email have have all fallen foul of the French language police. The common English expressions appear on a list of expressions the country's cultural ministry would like French-speaking people to stop using. Many of the phrases that Gallic ministers believe are eroding their mother tongue have emerged with the rise of the internet and digital age. They include 'start-up' which they say should be replaced with 'jeune pousse', 'Pop-up', which should be 'fenetre intruse' and hacker which should be 'fouineur'. French phrases have also been given for exit strategy, venture capital, crowdfunding and smiley. Two years ago government adviser Herve Bourges warner 'the idea of a French speaking world is becoming obsolete' by English speakers. He said: 'France failing to promote it's own language, and there seems to be very little interest in doing so.'Yesterday's Metro -> http://metro.co.uk/2008/03/12/french-say-non-to-english-words-34628/I think the reason why France do this is, is because of their regard to the French language being; less of a language - and more of a lifestyle.
