Morrissey is a highly influential musician (more so than GN'R I'd say), I don't think that whether you have heard of him or not is a characteristic for if he's a legend. I have to say that I don't get all this love for him at all...Actually I don't even think he sings very good.But yeah sure he might be talented and everything, but calling him a highly influential musician is a bit too much Well but I wouldn't call Guns N' Roses "highly influental" either the thing is he really was very influential with the smiths, Possibly the most influential band of all time and its not really an opinion, Its a fact.You dont have to like his music, but you cant deny the influnce they had. But loads of people don't even know who they are!I think loads of other bands had way more influence on music than they had.. Have you ever heard the expression about the Ramones "not a lot of people bought their albums, but everyone that did formed a band" ??? Basically, it means to say that you don't need to be really famous to be highly influential. Just about everyone will have heard of one of the bands the Smiths influenced. Sometimes you just speak to me like I'm 5 I do know about it YES!
