GNR Logo

As most of you know, there was a sh*tload of new merchandise at the official site a little over a week ago. However, today many of the shirts have disappeared -- includiing the ChineseDemocracy one. Not sure if this means they're just sold out or if someone has pulled them because the album title is being changed.

Regardless .. just wondered what everyone thinks of the GNR logo these days -- the star.  Do people prefer the skulls, the guns or the UYI logos better? Or do you think this is a good logo to mark the inauguration of the new band?

i think both the logo and the new font sucks... why don't they just keep the old one. it was great and i have grown up with it. oh.. and please don't put the american flag in the logo. i don't have anything with any country and i will still buy the album if that would be the case and i would still love gnr of course ,but rock is supposed to be a value which is over nations and discriminations. why spoil this ?

I really don't have much of an opinion about it either, though if I had to chose, I don't think I think the font, star or the name of the album. If that is what it will be called.

Can someone explain to me what Chinese Democracy stands for? Why that name? Anyone know? And what's it got to do with Guns n Roses? Not the band, but the name. Know what I mean? And why Chinese? Why not Japanese, or Canadian, or Brazilian? Anyone one know why he chose that name and why the font has an oriental look to it?

Axl has a whole new sorta socialist outlook (listen to his speech before Chinese Democracy at the House Of Blues) He feels China has one of the most oppresive governments in the world and that's what a lot of the new material is about (and the album name and new designs) Socialism! ie. the Socialist star and refrences to China.

Ya know, holydiver, I'm positive that you're not the only person that feels that way and I'm sure that hundreds of other people say the same about keeping the old logo, but I'm willing to bet that if Axl took back the old logo, everybody would throw a b-tch fit about how it "belonged to the old band' or whatever.  Don't really like the font myself either.  I have the GN'R Star shirt with the names on the back in yellow and I have to explain to everybody what it says b/c they can't read it.  Annoys me.

I think you may be reading a lot into that speech, Gcam.  Axl never mentioned socialism.  Only that China was one of the strongest and most oppressive nations in the world and that we were lucky to live in a free country.

As far as the font goes I've got no problem with that.  But I'm not married to it.  And I think you're right, Mark. If he'd kept the logo that would just be another thing for people to b*tch about.

I'm with Holydiver on this one .. at least when it comes to the logo and font. I just have a tough time connecting a glittery red star with the group's old image of being ''the most dangerous band alive" and the I-dont-give-a-f*ck-what-people-think attitude. Does anyone else think the two concepts just don't gel?

Of course, the new band may be trying to present a different image, and that's fine.  But, a sparkley red star seems to fit a pop image, not a hard rock one. (I hate to say this .. but it's something I'd almost expect Britney to wear.  :P)

That being said ... someone, who is much more familiar with the logo than myself, told me the star design has ''spiritual significance'' and that's why it was chosen. If that's the case, it's too bad Axl's handlers don't explain it to the fans.

Oh, and I agree with you Mark, the band could not have kept the OLD logo without getting a big backlash.

Yeah...just think about it if they did...it would give Nathan a whole new thing to b-tch about  (sry had to say it :))

And Gcam, how does socialism come into that speach?  He didn't mention anything remotely close to socialism.  Explain your reasoning and maybe I'll change my mind...

hand: the established music of today

rosebud: new gnr so it has to be baby

bleeding: gnr beats limp bizkit, nsync etc music ;)

Holydiver, that's a great idea for a logo....Cool. ..Do you know how to do graphic designs on the computer that you could draw it and post it?  Or, is there anyone else out there who can help turn this idea into reality?
