Yamisonic Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 When was the first time distortion/gain/drive (you know what I mean) was used on a guitar on any song? Thanks. Been wondering for quite a while now. Quote
mr-fukaji Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 In the 1960s guitarists experimented with distortion produced by deliberately overloading (or overdriving) their amplifiers. The Kinks guitarist Dave Davies was quoted as saying "you just turn it up and it sounds like that, s'loovly". At one stage Davies was producing distortion by connecting the output of one amplifier into the input of another, an abuse which the designers could never have imagined (but see Maton).apparently Quote
johnezz Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 I've always believed it was Eric Clapton on the Bluesbreaker album in '65/ Quote
Rock N' Roll Junkie Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 (edited) well outside of the real "overdrive" you also get overdrive when you put your amp as loud aspossible (you get distortion). Led Zeppelin played with that and some other bands. But the real effect, I'm not sure. Cream used it. I think they're probably the first. Edited August 27, 2005 by Rock N' Roll Junkie Quote
