madison
UPDATE:Apparently Princess Michael has now pulled the Axl poster from the auction. Seems she - or her son Frederick- had a change of heart and couldn't part with it. Here's an excerpt from the Press Association National Newswire:ROYAL COUPLE'S BRIC-A-BRAC GOES UNDER THE HAMMER 18 August 2006Press Association National NewswireBy David Hughes, PA Bargain hunters packed into an auction house today hoping to buy items belonging to Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Hundreds of items of bric-a-brac accumulated over the years were cleared out of the couple's former Cotswolds home to go under the hammer. Potential buyers from all over the world have been viewing the lots over the internet at auctioneers Moore, Allen and Innocent's website. Estimates for items with a Royal connection started at just £2, and among the more unusual lots were two boxes of model cars, valued at £30-£50 and an acoustic guitar in a faux crocodile skin case, which was set to go for around £60. The couple sold Nether Lypiatt Manor, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, in April and decided to sell many of the items from the eight-bedroom house. TV auction expert David Dickinson was among the buyers jostling for space among piles of furniture and ornaments at the salesrooms in Cirencester. Mr Dickinson was at the auction filming an episode of Dickinson's Real Deal. Moore, Allen and Innocent's principal auctioneer and valuer Philip Allwood said the sale was an excellent opportunity for buyers to pick up an item with a Royal connection for a low price. He said: 'People remember the sale of Princess Margaret's items, but you needed to be on the rich list just to buy a catalogue for that. 'What's in this auction is an eclectic mix of the sort of things we have from any house clearance on a regular basis. 'Any well-travelled couple would have accumulated many of these sorts of things - the only remarkable thing is they come from the House of Windsor.'' A poster of Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose - thought to have belonged to the couple's son Frederick - has been withdrawn from the sale. Mr Allwood said: 'He obviously couldn't bear to be parted with it.'' Also on sale today was a floral fabric-covered two-tier occasional table which had an estimate of just £2-£5. The couple's Orbitrek exercise machine and a step machine, valued at between £5 and £10 were also attracting interest from bidders. Many of the couple's more exclusive items are being held back for specialist sales. Mr Allwood said thousands of people had inspected the items at a viewing day yesterday and they had received enquiries from all over the world. He said: 'We will have lots of phone bids and we have had people emailing bids from places including the USA, Cyprus, Scandinavia and Australia this morning.'' The auctioneer said he expected many items to attract an inflated price because of the Royal connection. He said: 'I'm sure we will see elevated prices because of all the attention.''
