swlabr
I believe that John Mayer doesn't get much credit when it comes to being a singer, songwriter and guitarist. If you look past his truly pop hits (Why Georgia, Your Body Is A Wonderland, etc) you'd see how good of a musician he really is. The other day I was watching his Direct TV special in which he played songs from his new album, Continuum. Man, was I impressed. His guitar playing is off the charts. It is very blues/jazz oriented and sound awesome. What I really dig are his guitar tones. You wanna listen to some of the best guitar tones? You can learn a thing or two from John Mayer. Listen to "I Can't Trust Myself (Loving You)" and you'd know what I'm speaking about. I haven't bought the album yet but one of his best songs is gravity. Check it; http://music.msn.com/johnmayer. Check out most of the performances on that link while you're at it.So, who else like him?

I did like the dressing up in a bear suit thing (wasn't it a bear suit?) where he would go out and heckle the fans before his own shows. The fans had no idea it was him. That was brilliant. I've been really impressed by some shit I've seen lately from him. 98% of Hendrix covers completely blow and should not exist. I thought the following performances were stellar and John obviously means business.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a81NgSvRAh0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjf36Rg5w6QEDIT:That pouty face he makes when he sings makes me wanna slap him though. Annoying. LOL! - Edited November 23, 2006 by Ions

The Third Man
I loved his version of Cissy Strut. And any band with Pino Palladino in earns a lot of respect from me

swlabr
I find him to be a poor copy of Dave Matthews Band.If you take the time to listen to his music, you'll see how different they really are.
bax
I originally judged him by his pop radio hits and pretty much ignored him until I listened to his live album-the playing was amazing. Give it a listen before you start prejudging him people. You may just miss out on one of the best blues/rock guitarists to come along in years.
