madison
DATE: April 17 & 18, 2007SOURCE: news.AOL.com and Globe and MailThe 23-year old loner responsible for one of the deadliest rampages in U.S. history wrote several disturbing, violence-ridden plays that had fellow students and the head of the English department at Virginia Tech worried long before Tuesday's deadly shooting. One of Cho Seung-Hui's plays, called Mr. Brownstone, appeared to be partly-inspired by rock band Guns N' Roses and the band's late 80s song "Mr. Brownstone." The play included lyrics from the song. Here's a link to the play:http://news.aol.com/virginia-tech-shooting...417142209990002----------------------Virginia Tech shootingsInternational NewsDisturbing writings 18 April 2007The Globe and MailCarolyn Rude, chairwoman of the English department at Virginia Tech, said Mr. Cho's writing was so disturbing he had been referred to the university's counselling service, which he attended. The counselling service refused to comment. A student who attended Virginia Tech last fall provided two obscenity- and violence-laced scripts he said Mr. Cho wrote as part of a playwriting class they both took. These are synopses of each work: Mr. Brownstone: Three 17-year-old high-school students (two males and a female) cut class and use fake IDs to gain entry to a casino, where they play the slots and complain about their math teacher, an old man named Mr. Brownstone. Gripes about his age and strict demeanour give way to accusations he has raped half his students, including the ring-leader among the teens, John. As their rage builds, the teens talk of smelling evil, feeling a “satanic presence” and killing Mr. Brownstone violently. After singing the lyrics to Mr. Brownstone by the hard-rock band Guns N' Roses, John hits the jackpot, winning $5-million and the three celebrate never having to go to Mr. Brownstone's class again. Just then, Mr. Brownstone walks in, tells casino officials that the teens are underage and that they stole his winnings. He makes off with the jackpot. Richard McBeef: A new stepfather's attempts to connect with his 13-year-old stepson go awry when the boy accuses the man of murdering his real father, being a pedophile and generally being a fat loser. Believing the boy's tale of sexual abuse, the mother goes at the stepfather with a chainsaw and the boy throw darts at his image. It climaxes with the enraged stepfather killing the stepson with a single, powerful punch.
