HisRoyalSweetness
Just checked out Jason Isbell's first solo album after splitting with the Drive-by Truckers. It's alright. A few good songs, some that I'm not nuts about. I want him to get ballsier on his next album. This one has a pretty cool mix of R&B, Country and Rock. A lot of it sounds like Bruce Springsteen mixed with Otis Redding. Here are some highlights...Hurricanes and Handgrenades. Probably the best song on the album. Also sounds like the most personal. It's about a depressed musician trying to get a chick off his mind. Wine, whiskey, cocaine and depression. One really cool lyric... "She said I took the best years of her life. But she was only seventeen." http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XZZNN5AUDress Blues, the song about a friend of his who died in Iraq. Neil Young had this song on his homepage about a year and a half ago. Great song, though the album version blows. It was better when he just played it by himself without a full band... Chicago Promenade, sounds a whole lot like The Boss to me. Good song. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VTPB3FM7Razor Town. More of Bruce sound.http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OWQDJWIC Edited July 31, 2007 by HisRoyalSweetness
