  1. Hey Marc,

Axl has stated that he originally wanted the cover art for AFD to be the Challenger space shuttle explosion. This was before the Robert Williams painting "Appetite For Destruction" was used. Since the album was named after the painting, there must have originally been a different album title under consideration. Do you know anything about this?

    Thanks! :headbang:

  2. I don't think it's sad to see him fall in that video above. It happens. I think it's cool he took it in stride and kept singing. And Fortus looks to even be trying to hold back a smile.

Age, man. It has its way with everyone. But I sure do miss some of Axl's moves.

He didn't fall when he jumped, he deliberately did that. He lands & throws himself onto the ground and you see when he gets up he's smiling as the song finishes. If you watch it carefully you can see that, if he fell it would be a tumble & likely land face down rather than roll over onto his back & sing.

If you slow it right down you can see he lands then throws himself forward using his right leg - he planned that as a joke.

    LOL, get a grip dude.

  3. People go to hear the brand play - just like they play the songs on jukeboxes at bars. There are a lot of touring brands these days that contain just a single (or in some cases, ZERO) original members.

It's sad but yes, GNR is a travelling jukebox nostalgia brand. This is Axl's legacy, folks.

  4. Probably wont get released. Look how crappy metallicas movie is doing and their still popular.

why do you say the movie is doing crappy?

It cost 18 mill to make and has only made 3 mill back. Compared to other 3d concert films that have grossed over 30 mil this is crappy

Well it's only been out for 2 weeks, and according to IMDB it's made almost $5 million. Also, according to Blabbermouth, "Metallica Through The Never" opened... to an estimated $1.67 million - the best opening for a concert film ever at IMAX theaters". So I don't know where you're getting your numbers about films that "grossed over 30 mil" and how long that took, but according to the numbers I"m seeing and Blabbermouth this is quite impressive.

Keep in mind that there is also a soundtrack, and those profits need to be considered here too if you're going to use the $18 million figure to say the movie is doing "crappy."

  5. As far as I can see nobody has been asking about this,so I thought I would:

So I was wondering about the style of GNR.Image is very important to bands.I know they were heavily influenced by Hanoi Rocks when they started out as GNR and read somewhere that Izzy said that that was a good style to follow,so they wore clothes inspired by them.(HR wore tophats before Slash!I seen it in some interview) So I was wondering if the boys of GNR would like look over each others outfits before photo shoots and concerts?Did they clothesborrow a lot from each other?Where would they buy their clothes?(I read that Slash would often steal or find his clothes in the trash,he once stole a T-shirt from Vicky Hamilton) What´s the story behind Axl`s (buttless) use of the chaps? Was this common stagewear at the time in LA? What did the other guys think of that? (The girls watching the show must have enjoyed it regardless..)

I read that they were wearing make up during concerts and photo shoots at first, but they stopped coming in early for different reasons,so they wouldn`t have time to apply the makeup and played the show without their makeup.

I think I read it in Slash`s book that he wasn`t to happy with Stevens style. Also somewhere I heard that Axl was wearing pieces from his sisters wardrobe during the first parts of the UYI tour (the black tights with red roses were maybe hers first?)He changed his stagewear to more comfortable clothes because he wanted to be able to run around their new stage and the cowboy boots were gone for Axl´s part after this. Also read that the girlfriend of the singer from the band Cult was the first to straighten out Axl hair and then put one of her boyfriends bandannas around his hair, like the way Axl would wear it since.

Were Izzy and Duff the only ones of the band to colour their hair?Did Axl have a spraytan before the RIP show with Metallica and Sebastian Bach? When they were making videos, who was deciding on what to wear,in November Rain for instance?Who was the most vain of all of the boys?

So do you have info on their style choices -please do enlighten us!

Van Halen's David Lee Roth wore chaps at a show in 1983... Don't know if there were more rockstars who wore buttless chaps at a certain point in their carreer?

Watch The Decline of Western Civilization 2: The Metal Years, and you'll see another guy on there with the assless chaps (but he looks far better in them than axl ever did LOL). Also, Axl borrowed most of his look from Michael Monroe, and also the snake dance was borrowed as well. Axl gets credit for all of these things because he popularized them, but in reality he assembled all of this from what other people. Michael Jackson did the same thing with e.g. the moonwalk.

  6. According to Marc Canter, Axl isn't a lazy guy at all. I'm not an Axl nut swinger, but I do believe basically everything Marc says and so I'm leaning towards the opinion that Axl doesn't just lay around eating chips and watching Judge Judy. Not sure what he does in his spare time though, maybe works on his cars, reads, listens to records. I do get the feeling though that he spends very little time working on his new music.

  7. NIN fans are complaining ( the audiophiles mainly ) about the heavy compression used on Hesitation Marks so Trent and Co. are releasing an alternate version ( last I heard ) a DL ( I think LOL ) of

the org. mastering without the compression for the audiophiles.

I think GNR and other big acts should do the same if it causes such a ruckus with the fan base.

You're part right, but mostly wrong and it your using this positive thing to take a dig at Trent Reznor -- which is fucking stupid. Mt he record was released as BOTH a loud and an "audiophile" version, so the fans could choose which version to listen to. Is is a good thing for fans, and (as always) Trent is leading th cutting edge of this. This was decided before e record was even released, and is most certainly not in response to " complaints among fans about heavy compression used on HM." I would suggest you do a bit of research next time before you start trashing people on the Internet.

  8. But didn't the UYI dvds come out after the tours finished?

I know to some it makes no difference but the culture has changed. Some people don't go to movies anymore, there's so many other ways to watch a movie.

I'm saying at this point if they aren't going to be touring then nows a great time to put it out. People thinking I saw that show I wish I could see that again (they exact same setlist again, yes, yes, yes) then the blu ray pops up, well then they will be like "great!"

Or does having the 360 U2 tour dvd out help promo the tour. Like look at this huge spider thing we have on stage.

It's definitely possible some of the tour dates over the summer played a part in delaying it, but it's still less than a year since the residency happened.

Metallica's concert film was made last August.

You're confusing two different Metallica films. One was made and released last fall, another was made this year and is about to be released.

  9. Hey Marc,

Did the guys in the band always dress like in the photos above? They wore some pretty loud and outrageous clothing back in the day. Did they always dress like that, even when hanging out, or was that stuff reserved for stage only? Did you dress like that too? I was a teenager in the mid 90s and my friends and I used to dress like skater punks, it seemed really cool at the time but to be honest it kind of embarrasses me now (I'm in my mid 30s now haha)!

  10. Why is everyone confusing production with mastering? These are two different things entirely, done by different people. Rick Rubin produced those records - are you trying to say he mastered them too?

  11. There are a bunch of issues with that stupid last supper banner. Not only are several key members missing, but it just looks dumb. I'm not religious (at all), but equating Axl to Jesus Christ is offensive to many and personally I don't want to be staring at Christian iconography every time I view the forum. Finally, the heads are the wrong size for the bodies and point he wrong directions. It just looks silly and I can't see why anyone would want such a stupid banner across the top of their forum.
