Well, in a couple more months we'll know
-
I'm not saying to stop playing all of them mate, not at all. I'm just ready for the next era you know? GnR are now the current band, let's hear what they can do! While I love WTTJ, I'd love to hear a new CD song open the show.
-
That's the dumbest things I've heard. If bands should worry about how relevant their lyrics are comapred to the life they live we wouldn't hear much music at all...
Always nice to be called dumb by a moderator. Appreciate that. What is wrong with having relevant lyrics?

Don't take this as a bashing thread as it isn't. I'm a LONG time Gn'R fan. My thoughts are that now Axl is older and maturer does anyone else not buy the songs about drugs and such anymore?
I mean when I saw GnR in 89', I could see them singing "Out ta get me" and "Mr. Brownstone" as that was what GnR were all about, but I don't see that side of Axl anymore. He's supposedly drug free, so the meaning behind Mr. Brownstone is lost. Don't get me wrong, I love every song from AFD, but I think the message that the songs had doesn't translate anymore to someone who doesn't live that lifestyle. Face it folks, Axl has grown up on us I'd expect to see more maturer songs on the current tour from the UYI albums and quite frankly I'm really surprised to not see more of them.
I see people begging for Get in the Ring and such, but again, no longer relevant. I think it's important for Axl to plan a setlist that focuses on his maturity and growth.
This isn't an invitation for bashing, just a more in depth discussion on setlists and the thought that goes into them.
i know what you mean, but i think he is still using drugs. i mean you look at his body shape at the 2002 VMAs then before the tour (maybe at onee of the NY gigs) and he is thinner. at the end of the tour he is even thinner, and i know touring makes you lose a few pounds but the transformation is drastic. heroin makes you thinner. and axl is getting much thinner. and look at dizzy. he's thin too. its obvious at least 2 members are on drugs.
I dont think Axl is doing heroin, his weight loss since 02 is probably attributed to a work out routine.
Damn, I lost 15lbs this past year. I must be on heroine

What I think is wierd is how much the new members cant relate to these songs, but I see your point. It is a little strange.
That's why I don't think we've really seen the real GnR yet. I want to see what the other members have to offer shy of just strumming along. Of course, if it's another Silkworms, there's gonna be trouble lol You can't tell me that Ron/Robin/Tommy are feeling the music when he plays songs that Slash/Izzy/Duff made famous. I want to see them shine on their own compositions.
-
Yeah, but there is an element of progress people want to hear too. Okay this is a bad comparisson, but I saw Poison on their 1999 reunion tour and the whole "party/sex/drugs'" thing was just old. A greatest hits tour is always fun, but you have to be able to move on from that at some point, especially as the band has a new line up. I want to hear Ron/Chris/Robin et al play their own music. The new band has some phenominal musicians and I want to hear what they can do! I'm really looking forward to a majority Chinese Democracy set!

TWAT is a complete throwback to UYI. I for one love it! IRS and Better are throwaway tracks. Same as how Shotgun Blues was on UYI2 and how Estranged was the epic.

Man, some of you people are way too defensive over Axl. It's kind of creepy.
-
Yeah that's the picture of him which is in the inside sleeve of Chinese Democracy...
This one is also in the inside sleeve of Chinese Democracy
Oh shit that's funny. Lol, that made my day...

It all depends on your point of view. 2 hours late for your show or 22 hours early for the next
-
Based on history, I would allow at least 1 - 3 hours extra. It's Axl's one quirk that does annoy the piss out of me and is very inconsiderate of fans. Not everyone drives to a concert. It's never affected me, but I can see how someone who is taking a bus or train or is getting picked up could be left stranded.
-
Yes. I'm afraid I have been influenced by Axl. At our Christmas partyI punched a guy because he moved my drink. I tell work that my project is behind 14 years, but they will see work soon. I walk into meetings 2 - 3 hours late. I fire co-workers but let their replacements get credit for projects. Yes, a huge influence

I think Catcher is a great tune, im glad its gonna be on the album, it has some sort of, late UYI II sound to it. Im suprised to see how many people don't like Catcher and like TWAT, when i thought TWAT was the only demo that wasn't worth the while, well everyone has his own opinion...
Hehe, weird. See I feel exactly the opposite. I feel TWAT fits in with UYI2 and CITR seems just out of place and overlayered.
-
Ugh, I thought Catcher was crap. In fact I thought the only leak worth anything was TWAT. The rest were average at best.
-
The Phoenix show in 2002 was barely 50% sold out, so I'd expect a smaller venue this time. Somewhere 7000 - 10000 capacity. But I swear if he cancels on us again I'll be done. Forever.

graemewark, I tried to read your post as it seems you had some valid points, but the blatant lack of capital letters and punctuation made it a one long run on sentence. Fuck that. I've got better things to do than try to decipher your none existant grasp of the English language. If you can't respect us enough to form a coherent sentence, I can't show you the respect to discuss it.
Sounds more like ye camnt read ya dozy thixk wank rag or maybe i made so many points and facts you cant fuckin srgue go fuck yoursel
Oh, I can read perfectly well, thank you, but thanks for proving my point. 27 words, 9 mis-spelled and not a single mark of punctation. Hardly the work of a genius. You just present yourself as lazy and extremely ignorant. Throw all of the curses you want at me. I take them for face value from an illiterate neanderthal. Your points and opinions are worthless. Feel free to respond using any four letter words that start with f, s, c or w. It's about all you vocabulary can handle it seems.

People are supporting him by just talking about him. Be it his hair, the demo's, a tour that has not even started in the US. It's when people STOP talking you should be worried.
Right now there is nothing to talk about. No US tour planned, no CD release date. Just reviews of European shows. I think the fact that the boards are alive is a good thing, even if some topics are not about the music.
-
In my opinion, Axl knows he has everything riding on this tour. A no-show or cancelation would be devastating. I just don't see it happening. He's put too much effort in the new album to let it crumble. He has a great band with him. He may be a dick sometimes, but he's not a douche bag. Big difference.

Thanks Shades. First decent post here so far.

Another greatest hits tour... What is he doing? I of course wish Axl the very best with this, but my gut tells me otherwise...
I have tickets for tomorrow... but was really hoping for some new CD.
Setlist and attitude don't mix anymore
