  1. I'd forgotton all about them - they were brilliant. I'd love to have some of their stuff. Can you still get hold of their albums?

Check out www.midnightoil.com - it's a good site for fans, listing albums, lyrics and sites to purchase albums, etc.

    Thanks heaps! :)

  2. never heard of em. im not really up on whats going on in music today to be honest. i like kathleen hanna from Le Tigre, they started in 1998 and broke up this january, that count? my all time favorite female is Ari Up, always will be, she's the total queen :)

Ari Up is, was and always will be the queen. Also Siouxsie Sioux is just about the best frontwoman ever.

  3. Maggie May and Reason to Believe have always been somewhat guilty pleasures of mine. I find it very difficult to get past Rod's material from the 80's on, but then again I used to feel that way about Springsteen during the heyday of Born in the U.S.A. I've been close-minded about true genius before, so maybe I should give Rod a chance.

I love Reason to Believe so much - it's my guilty pleasure too! Country Comfort, Handbags & Gladrags, You Wear it Well, Oh No! Not my Baby, all brilliant. It's just seen as a bit sad to like Rod now cos of the carry on of him since he moved to US of A in late 70's, but in the late 60's and early 70's he really had it going on. B)

  4. Firstly apologies if I'm being thick. Is it possible to not include songs when you put ipod on shuffle or do you just have to skip them all the time. I'm sure there's a way but can't figure it. Any help??? Thanks :)

  5. This is very hard to admit, but i can't help it - I really like Take That and the Sugababes. I've got another guilty secret which involves a tv programme that I never miss! :D;)

    Hollyoaks in the City?

It can't get much lower than that. :P

.......maybe there's a few gems on daytime tv. Or Songs of praise if we're getting really low.

Its worse Roses i promise you - I can't spill yet as i have to finally admit my addiction to myself and go through rehab first.

  6. I hope they do get it together, i'd be really interested to see what they sound like now. I really like B Melon and have most of their cd's (maybe all). Interesting.

  7. Punk rock was simpler then the kind of music Nirvana played. It doesn't take talent.

Takes no talent? The really good punk rock acts, like the really good bands from other genres often have alot of talent. Sure the punk scene is full of people that may not be gods on their instruments but so are most scenes just that the punk scene embraces it more cause the main thing is being there and playing and having fun.

Duff without question. Punk was never truly about talent and more about attitude, personally I prefer a bit of attitude to note perfect playing. Nothing against Tommy but Duff does it for me.

  8. Which is why I think it's unfortunate that Tokyo was released on DVD. This was when the band was on the verge of dissolving. You can see it in everyone. The spark is gone. They're big, bloated, tired (not literally). Slash looks bored throughout; Axl's once-random song motions (such as the fuck-off finger, the Brownstone outro with the pushing/pulling hands, etc.) are by this point so typical that he just looks like he's in a routine. It's not fascinating to watch. On top of that they have the huge stadium stage with the keyboardist and the backup singers and everything - it's just a mess to watch, albeit a fascinating mess. (It's not terrible, it just lacks the power of other performances from that tour and from earlier ones.)

I think their stage presence a year or two prior was exceptonal. Slash dominated on guitar and was all over the place, while Axl was totally random and you never knew what to expect. They were tight and bonded well on stage, while managing to bounce off each other.

    Great post.

Totally agree with you about the Tokyo DVD. Why on earth they chose to release that is a mystery to me. There's no energy or spark in it at all and the audience seem to be stultifyingly dull. In the bands defence, it must be such a drag playing to an audience like that.

I saw them on the UYI tour and although it's true that a lot of the actions had become routine, they were still spine tinglingly brilliant. Axl has just got presence on or off stage, and even though the years have quitened him down a bit, he still really just has IT.
