  1. Well velvet revolver play some GNR, seems to me to be the same vibe, I see no problem playing Some old GNR songs, but if they try to pull a 2002 gig (which i must say was laughable and petty), then that falls into the cover band category, i say a third of the set be GNR songs and then the rest Axl's new band,

No theres a huge difference. GNR is GNR, VR is not GNR. IMO they shouldn't touch those songs.

why not? Plant still does Zeppelin songs, so does Page, Jeff Beck still does some Yardbirds stuff, Clapton does Cream songs, I could go on... It's all good.

I simply feel without Axl those guys have no business playing those songs with some second rate fruadboy frontman. They left GNR for their own reasons, they should let go of it and let the real GNR handle those songs. Thats just my opinion.

    I see.

Not a strong enough reason for them to stop IMO.

and they wont stop. Those are the songs that made them great. not the shit on contraband. Those are the songs they'll be remembered for and they know that.

    agree

And plus, collectively, they contributed more to the creation of those songs than Axl. It's their songs and they can play them if they like. But they better not touch Estranged (not that they would).

On topic, there should be plenty room in the set to play most if not all of Chinese Democracy and most of the "expected" classics and favourites.

  2. I'm not surprised. That Larry David is one hot fella. Gotta love the way the light reflects off his bald head. And don't get me started on the turkey neck!

But yeah, seriously any poll with a public vote is not worth shit. The public simply can't be trusted to give an accurate conclusion.

  3. It's this famous speech and then Axl says some lines in between.

I used to think that was Axl as well- the same quotes used in Civil War. But it's Michael J. Fox, Gene Hackman some others..."This whole thing is fucked up!"- I used to think that was Axl.

  4. Hang on, the show's called Saturday Night Live is it not. Shouldn't it be live? What a con! Although didn't Ashley -whatserface- Simpson screw up on it performing "live"? Someone clarify please. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong show.

    EDIT: He said it first^^

  5. I cut it off. Problem solved. I think that other one is a fake. it's got proper sounding drums on it, but they sounded like they were added over the top of the current version. There's no full version available

  6. This one will sell loads even if it only has a recorded fart on it.

Aerosmith's Get A Grip featured a recorded belch on it and that's their biggest selling album to date.

I think 50 million is a tad optimistic W. Axl Kev but I'm very happy to be proved wrong. September is the perfect time to releae the album IMHO; the European tour will be a success without a new album as long as Axl doesn't bail on it. A North American tour could follow in late September/October and be a huge success.

  7. Axl himself has specifically promised the release in many of the previous years. But he has not delivered. In 01/02 he started a tour without an album, and it failed horribly. Shows were cancelled and most didn't get near to selling out.

Fast forward to 06, the formula still works now:

    Tour - album = Disaster

    Its as simple as that.

The 2002 World Tour was actually a success: Dates in Hong Kong, Japan, Pukkelpop, Leeds and London sold extremely well. And Rock In Rio in 2001 was also a sucess. It was only the North American leg which was a disatser. If the album drops in September it'll be out in time for a North American leg. :D

  8. Alright it's true that we are still lacking any concrete proof that the album will be released soon. But optomism is so rife right now becuase this is the first time since 2001/2002 that things have actually been happening. All that speculation in 2003-05 was just based on anticpation but nothing actually happened. This year has seen a flurry of activty, what with the Eauropean tour this summer and whatnot, and this is the most likely period for an album release in a very long time. You can't blame people for being excited.

I don't agree with your comments about Axl's age (he's actually 44, but that's splitting hairs) being a sign he's passed it. Steven Tyler was still very much a-goer at 44 (although Aerosmith's albums have sucked since) and in term's of onstage performance he was at the top of his game.

It's true that the band has been sacrificed for the new album- Axl has lost well over ten years of what should of been the peak of his career and should the band suceed in making a comeback it may proof to be much shorter than what it should of been.

  9. I.R.S needs the vocals to be recorded (or at least better mixed) so you can actually make out the lyrics. I'd like to see the 'old' voice used for at least the chorus so the song doesn't sound the same throughout. I also feel it loses it's great sense of mementum after the middle section.

Better sounds pretty good as it is. Not sure if I can make any suggestions other than make it sound more dynamic (but it will anyway). Oh and I guess it's a little 'sporadic'.

  10. I'll probably burn all my old G'N'R albums believing them to be surplus to requirements. After listening to CD a few more times, I'll run out and weep over the charred remains of the classic albums before running out to the record store to replace them. When I get home I'll stick the newly-purchased classic albums back on the shelf to gather dust, then stick CD on again.

  11. Also i believe the leaks minus CITR are not demos.

The leaks aren't the finished tracks as they haven't been mastered. They could represent very closely the final tracks though. And you're wrong about CITR- I'd say it's the most complete sounding of all the leaked tracks.

You do make some valid points however- there does need to be a couple of stunning tracks amongst the ones we haven't heard. Oh, and Chinese Democracy is one of my favourite of the new songs. The album needs one or two simple tracks like that one to balance things out.

  12. I think that's the key difference here. In 2002 the album was clearly very far from finished. Fast forward to 2006 and the buzz is that it's pretty much done. I believe the album will be out in time for a US tour. I also believe that the forthcoming European tour will feature a lot more new material ( or at least a selection of new material).

  13. 'Chinese Democracy' is one of my favourites out of the new tracks. With all the epics Axl's going to be putting on CD, there needs to be more simple and heavy tracks like this to balance out the album. Great riff, great lyrics and a great build up at the end. It's just a pity there isn't a definitive version to prove this track's worth. Personally I like The House of Blues version.

  14. First off:

    a) It's not all drum machines on these songs.

    B) Yeah they're gonna sound"fuller" ever notice how you hear an old song, then hear it on FM radio and it sounds different...these are mp3's

If you think these songs are shitty, it's because your expectations are too high, which is understandabe given the nature of a GnR fan and the time this album has taken to make...

They're very very intricate. Like another poster said - listen to the layering, the complexity. That kind of stuff takes take after take after take. Hell, Brian May flew back and forth to LA for sessions. That was 6 years ago. You STILL think this is a demo?? C'mon cut Axl some slack. He's slow because of alot of shit, mainly legal, band coherence, personal issues, etc but to cut a track doesn't take 6 years people.

They're all almost entirely recorded in mono (except some of the intros and CITR). Explain that one!
