Axl showed disrespect to his fan base when he joined ACDC right at the time the "reunion" was set to start. The fucker was giving interviews and doing promotion for ACDC before he even did one for GNR. He put everything he had vocally for ACDC, and gave the "leftovers" to GNR .Not all of 2016 GNR shows were good, a lot of it sucked. It is just that those bad 2016 performances sound great in comparison to the shit we are hearing now.
Or maybe he just doesn't care about GNR and intentionally sounds like shit. We'll see when he sings for ACDC again.
p.s Don't give the "ACDC songs are easier to sing" bullshit.
-
He should have never done ACDC. All he had to do was concentrate on GNR. He could have hired a vocal coach and got physically fit. Had he done this, he might have still been able to sound decent. He should just retire now and allow Slash and Duff to continue the legacy.
I guess a GNR reunion was not big enough for his ego.

Agree but I've never heard him literally not be able to sing some parts. His voice was weak/Mickey but nothing near Berlin. There's no way without some medical or major technical issue that a natural decline like that would happen over a few months. If that was an AC/DC show, Angus probably would have cancelled it half way through.
I'm actually impressed that Axl tried to do the show and didn't just not show up or walk off stage in the middle and never return.
It is not health. He just sucks. He's only had a 1-2yr period, since his return in 2001, in which his vocals were at a respectable level compared to his 87-93 years. I don't know what the guy did to his vocal cords during his seclusion years, but whatever it was, it killed his voice. Even his vocals during that 1-2 yr period sounded forced. It took a lot of effort for him to rasp as opposed to it being "effortless" in his prime years.
I would love to see a reunited Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven with a new singer. That would kick some serious ass.

Corey on the video above is singing the song properly (tone of voice, delivery, performance etc) and clearly enjoying himself while doing it
Axl seemed the exact opposite. Voice, tone, delivery and performance absolutely didn't fit the song. And he didn't seem to be enjoying himself. At all
What a difference. GNR should just have a guest singer sing the song, while Axl goes into his tent and reloads with oxygen.

Please spread your negative statements somewhere else, no need to be so harsh. may I also say that for the average American his age he is quite slim obesitas is a huge problem in that country.
Bullshit. Is Duff fat?

Fucking hell...
Axl is a grown man who has 30+ years of rock n' roll behind him, is in one of - if not the - greatest rock n' roll bands of all time and is AXL FUCKING ROSE - he is not a 7 year old returning to play his first match for his soccer team after spraining his ankle....
He doesn't need to be treated with kid gloves!
A long break of what?! He wasn't down the fucking mines - he was arsing around not giving a flying fuck about GNR and generally just not giving a shit..
Nice to see someone making sense.

I'm sure he was reffering to long break
First show in long time and he sucks
ok. So he is delusional.

Okay so I just got off from Berlin show. Here is my point of view.
Axl came out of Van and went to stage like 10min after it.. i dont think he did proper vocal warm up.
MAN he was VERY slim and confident. I think the problems started after Better.
He blew his voice as He said during the show. He said "i fucking suck.. its the first time in a long time and i blew it" and they cut many many songs.
Axl didnt take the shades of until Knockin on heavens door. He explained that signing tonight is like singing under water.. he cannot hear anythin that he sings. So maybe i heard wrong and actually his ears blew.. more later
What was he referring to?" First time in a long time" as in sucking? If that is what he meant, then he is delusional. He sounded somewhat decent at the beginning of the NITL tour in 2016. After that, it went all down hill.

just to remind us how cool this song can be.
This song should not be attempted again with Axl on vocals and Frank on drums.

Why so many excuses? The guy is done, it is that simple. He looks like a sick person up there. It's not just the voice, it is everything about him. And it has been this way for a long time.

I actually like a shorter set. THat is how it should be. They need to get rid of all the unnecessary bullshit. UNfortunately, the short set was because of something else and won't be the norm.

I am going to say this:
Slash and Duff are being wasted in this band. They need to quit GNR and form another band again. Write some new music. GNR is dead.
There is nothing there anymore.

I almost want Slash and Duff to borrow STP's new singer and do new Velvet Revolver stuff
GNR is lame now
Correct.

Jesus christ. It's like listening to a karaoke singer(with a cold) trying to impersonate Axl Rose. He butchered Slither, how the fuck is that even possible?

Taipei 2009, best version imo (not Ashba ofc)
They should have "reunited" in 2009/10.
-
From now on, they should just start with Slither. The only reason I am here is because I want to listen to Slash play this song in 2018.

You don't hear any difference?
Not the way he missed a few lyrics in the first chorus or the fact he sung the second verse before the solo an octave lower?
Nope. the same awful performance he always does. When you reach rock bottom like he has, there is not much difference in how shitty he sounds.
-
I don't hear any difference in the way he sung "THis I lOve" tonight, it still sounds like shit. THe only time his voice was good on this song was in 2010. Ever since, it has been shit, just like the rest of the Mickey performances.

This I love

I actually don't think Axl sounds too bad. The sound on my stream is just echo-ey. Which I have commented on as well. This is my first ever comment on clothes, I think, since I joined this forum.
Yes, I am a woman, who's been a GN'R fan since '87. I love (most of) their songs. Doesn't mean I don't think these kinda shirts aren't trashy. Same with some of the art in their $999 box set. And they're middle-aged men now, not the guys who used to live on the streets in the environment they were in. Most have wives/girlfriends. Some have daughters. Be kinda nice if they grew out of that stuff?
Fair point.
But the art in the box set was a must. They were celebrating a moment in time, you can't erase history. It is who they are/were. IF they ever released a UYI box set, there wouldn't be that kind of art.

This. It wasn't great or near the top of NITL performances but I anybody who thinks this sounded like 2002 VMAs either needs their hearing checked or needs to re-watch that and remember just how horrible it was.
I re-watched it and I stand by my comment. It was awful. The rest of the band was fine.

I love Slash, but I hate the RQ extended solo bullshit. They need to play it like the album. The only solo spot Slash should have is the "Godfather" theme. I consider Double Talkin Jive (which I love) to be a Slash solo as well.
2 are enough in one set.
