  1. When I first heard Axl's vocals on the short clip from the gnr.fm countdown, I thought for sure it was Axl's 80's voice.  After listening to the demo version of the song, I am now convinced it is current Axl on the new release.. The vocals are much weaker than the demo version.  The voice has all the similarities of his current voice.  It is not bad, just not as powerful as before. I like SOYL.

It is too bad these guys don't want to make a new record.

Axl could sing great in a studio still. It's the running around the stage and being out of shape that kills his voice live for the most part. That's why he sounded good with AC/DC..Angus runs the show, so he didn't have to be nearly as active.

Not like that he couldn't. He proved that with Chi Dem. Not even Illusions Axl could sing like the vocals in that clip. That is 80's Axl vocals.

Are you kidding me? AFD sounds pretty dated, it just screams late 80s cockrock.

It is a great album and has many positive qualities that everyone has raved about in the last 30 years, but sounding timeless is not one of them.

One of the dumbest things I have ever read on this forum.

Cockrock?  Why even listen to them if that is your opinion of perhaps the greatest hard rock record of all time?

  4. Funny how Ron went on to list the things that helped make that album the piece of crap that it is. The only reason he's calling it a "masterpiece" is because he was on it. It is awful.

I also find it is stupid how a few on here attack Slash when defending CD. Had Slash released something this pathetic under the GNR name, it would have also been criticized.

Some people here are obviously not Guns N' Roses fans.

I don't care where they recorded . Reznor hardly spoke in the press , NIN is one of my favorite groups and I know next to nothing about their personal lives , which is how I like it. At least he is not a cheesy embarasment like duff who I recently found out did a reality show :rofl-lol:

You compared them to nickel back! Pretty sure that's not a compliment .

What Trent is contrived because he wore black pants and a black tshirt ? Because he had a hairstyle ? Should he have worn a potato sack? He was as minimalist as it got .

As far as composing, Axl is not in the same solar system as Trent and that's just a fact . All the good song writing in GnR was because of Izzy and then others contributed . I think CD is proof of that.

LOL Axl as a rock star and GNR in general takes a shit on anything having to do with NIN times a 1000.

Nobody gives a fuck about NiN. 100 yrs from now GNR will still be heard, NIN will be forgotten.

  6. Rocket Queen sucks without Steven Adler.  Put in a good sounding Axl, Steven Adler, and take away the stupid unnecessary long solo, and the song would kick ass.

Nu GNR version sucks as well. Speaking of NU GNr, did you guys listen to Buckethead's interview? The guy spoke for the first time ever. He is weird, but seems like a good guy. It is on youtube if you haven't heard it.

I've seen a handful of people say "I heard some of the cd songs live, never heard them before, quite liked them" etc, etc

Overall the people don't like cd will remain as people who don't like cd, they either honestly don't like the sound and direction of the album, or there's the majority of people who don't like it because of the line up and that the guns n roses sound that was 20 years at the point of release developed into something that wasn't expected eg not a mix of AFD and UYI.

And none of those handful of people will go buy the album. CD is one of the worst albums released in the last 20 years.

    its not about hate

    - most of casual GNR fans -- the people who are paying hundreds of dollars to watch the Poor and Roses tour -- never actually listened to the axl solo album.

    - id guess that at least 50% of the audience must look at each other and go -- what song is that? -- when they play an axl solo song

    - the ones among casual GNR fans who actually did listen to the axl solo album probably did it once or twice. and then gave up. because... yeah, we all know why

    - some people may not even have made it to the end of the album. because...

    - those few who made it to the end of the album probably tried to listen to it two or three more times. Tried. You have to be strong to do that! True GNR fans here! but, a few spins later and then they probably also gave up. because...

you think people hate this album? no, they just DONT CARE. and no matter how much `limelight` these songs got on this nonsense tour, people will likely keep NOT CARING because...

...most of the songs are not that good, or not good at all, or, at least, not good at all when compaired to GNR songs

...Axl`s voice and delivery are basically unrecognizable on these tracks when compaired to his delivery in GNR

...the arrangements are truly awful and grooveless and boring and at times cringe-inducing

...the `spirit` (for the lack of a better word) of the music has absolutely nothing to do with GNR. GNR is a gang of men saying `fuck you` to the word `we wont take your shit!` with some mighty fine love songs in between. Axl solo album has nothing to do with that. It is the album of a broken man, and you can hear it on every song

    Good post.
