Whenever I see a thread bumped with the word "leak" in it I almost have a heart attack.

Axl used to introduce Duff as the "the king of beers" so that probably fueled the rumor as well.
There's a bit of Slash in Otto for sure.
-
I was at this "show" as well. I seem to recall the story at the time was that Buckethead was ill, but I can't remember where that came from. Axl seems to have changed the story over the years (perhaps out of embarrassment over the whole debacle).

The Blues or Catcher, with the original arrangements.

A couple more fun facts about these shows: Slash was staying at the Joint and was planning to attend a show, but was denied entry because management thought it would throw Axl off his game. Also Robin did a stage dive and crowd surfed at the end of one of these shows.

Yeah GNR management is more likely to delete things from the internet than upload them.

There are a lot of classics that Axl consistently sounded terrible on during the NITL tour (SCOM, RQ, Estranged, etc.) A live release from this era would be embarrassing.

I think the problem is that the quality of Axl's performances on the last few tours is too embarrassing to release publically.

It's hard to know how to play a hand when you've never played the game before. Hard to gamble your available money away when there's so little of it and bills have to be paid.
Didn't they make Appetite for like $100k? And it was their best album. This isn't a money problem, it's lack of motivation and inspiration.

As a reminder: we have a long standing policy of not allowing insults toward Jarmo or his site.
I get that it's off topic, but why in the world would this policy exist? There should be a Jarmo-bashing thread.

GNR retired creatively over a decade ago. Just have to accept that. I expect new music from GNR the same as I expect Michael Jordan to win another NBA championship.

That's one of the many problems with CD; there's no consistent concept throughout, just a random jumble of ideas and musicians and producers with nothing connecting one song to the next except Axl's woeful lyrics about how everyone mistreats him. Half of the songs sound like they could have been written by Donald Trump.

Are singles still a thing? Seems like they're completely irrelevant in an era where albums and tv shows get binged en masse from streaming platforms on day one.

Axl should use the Chairman's poems as lyrics to finish up all these songs.

Imagine him doing this in live 2002 when he had the powerful falsetto/head voice mastered (nobody said Mickey until 2011).
It was around the 2002 MTV VMA performance when Mickey entered the picture.

Folk singer Marissa Nadler put out an interesting take on Estranged yesterday.

Hey Andrew, I'm the Jan you mentioned in your post. My memories of that show are similar. I was 19 at the time and flew down from Canada as well. I ran a site called the GNR MP3 Exchange in the late 90's, and later gnrlive.com. In the weeks following the show I remember negotiating with the guy who bootlegged it, and the first MP3 of The Blues to appear on the internet debuted on my website. Some of the people you mentioned in your post were also instrumental in getting the proshot bootleg to surface a year or two ago.

What time do the shows start these days?

I really miss Brian May's guitar solo on Catcher. The early performances of the Blues were superior too. I think the album would have done much better in 2000. The sound was pretty stale by 2008 and the over-engineering made it even worse. AFD by comparison is timeless and sounds much more relevant today than CD does.

Ideally he'd be capable of doing both, but he's just not even close. Sharing the chorus and keeping in the lower register for the verses seems like such an obvious choice that it baffles me why he's not doing it that way.
