  1. It's the never ending war of people who play music and have and ear for it vs. the people who don't and discredit what they say because they're not famous.  People who clearly hear something wrong vs. the one's who hear it as perfection.  One guy says Frank isn't bad vs. another who says he's awful.

It's very comparable to religion in the aspect that 1 passage read by 10 different people can have 10 different meanings.

At the same time, it's Slash and it's GNR, he's far from the only culprit, and they've always been far from the tightest band live. Going back all the way to the 80s, they've never been consistently tight like Metallica or Maiden. But people have always enjoyed the almost fall off the rails feeling of this band, warts and all. You'd get more note for note perfection from a U2 or Muse show.

No argument here.  The not-so-perfect aspect of them is part of what drew me to them in the 80's and I loved it.

All I'm trying to convey is that it's a little messier than even what we're accustomed to from years past.

It's a difficult solo to pull off cause it's long with a lot of changes so it's easier to lose direction especially when Slash is trying to compose a different solo in his style. Seems like he's putting it together and the second half is mostly there already direction wise, some of the note choices too, he's figuring it out.

It just takes time to feel comfortable to improvise over.

I feel what you're saying and it's true, however, this is the lead guitarist for one of the most well-known rock bands in the music history.   He's a paid professional who's making some serious bank per show and not just some regular Joe like you or I up there playing the hits.  For what people are paying to see them he needs to get his improvising down in rehearsals and in the hotel, not in live concert.  Football teams don't run new plays they've never practiced before in a real game, they get that stuff ironed out during the week of practice leading up to the game.

I'm not much of an apologist because he's had time to nail it down and I paid over $2k for 3 tickets to see them in Nashville on July 9th so I fully expect to not be noodled and flat noted to death when I see them.

What he's going for is pretty epic, execution ain't quite there, but when he gets all of it, it will kill.

No doubt, and a good way of putting it.

"And Slash? Among the lasting legacies of GNR 2016 -- and there will be many -- one of them is to surely cement Slash's status as one of the greatest, most furious, rock 'n roll guitarists of all time. With Rose's immobility especially, Slash is carrying a heavy load, and the man is proving himself to be more than up to the challenge."

That's from the most respected music magazine there is.

No history lesson on Slash needed as I'm well aware of who he is.  He's my biggest influence in music period but the facts are the facts and he's flubbing quite a bit.  I knew it wouldn't be a popular thing to say but it's the truth.

It wouldn't change my mind if Axl wrote a 10 page article in the NY Times about how great Slash has been it still doesn't change that Slash has been less than sharp (in spots).  I'm not talking about his improvised Chinese Democracy spots cause I fully expected that...  However, if you're in the majority who think his TIL solo is 'epic' then I know instantly that there's nothing we can logically discuss together.

  6. I'm not flaming or trying to start a pissing contest but Slash hasn't been overly impressive at all.  In fact, he's messing up quite a bit honestly.  His timing is way off, he's noodling, and he's flat noting like hell in certain spots.

I'm going to see them in Nashville and I'm loving the quasi reunion but Slash has been a slight dissapointment for me.

  7. He struggles with the same thing he has the past 15+ years and that's his mid-range.

He still sounds good in his low register, and the high for the most part (like the screaming vocals in Better, It's So Easy, & Live & Let Die).  It's too rough on his voice to do it when he's in his mid-range because that's how he sang almost all time.

I do like how he's extending his low register more often in songs like Nightrain & November Rain than singing in that winded mid-range voice.  That was a smart move on his part and could stand to use it more.  It would make You Could Be Mine bearable to listen to.

  8. They were the biggest.  MTV News & Kurt Loder made it larger than life.  The Ritz live special and then later with Rock In Rio Live it just went to another level.

Every time you turned around there was the Kurt Loder interviewing Axl fresh out of jail, on the way to jail, in the jail, on a cruise ship, first night of world tour, and everything in between.

Axl was such a intriguing person.  I swear that sometimes it was more about the mystery & suspense of the band than the music itself.

  9. If there ever is a reunion I guarantee you that they either A: Drop the CD stuff altogether and just play the classics or B: they have past & present members making cameo's when they play CD stuff.

I'm just gonna tell you, Slash and Izzy aren't going to be playing CD solos and stuff. No way Izzy is going to sit down and learn those CD songs no matter how much of a fanboy you are.

  10. We're talking about a rich white man living in Malibu that's staring 60 years old in the face. What much else can be left in the tank, honestly?

There's nothing to lose and nothing left to gain. CD was the last half ass'd attempt to be relevant again and it didn't work. Axl would be nuts to subject himself to that ridicule again.

I can promise you that he's not done touring just yet. Until Axl has his 'farewell cash grab' tour we know there's one more round left. There's plenty of money to be made on a farewell tour.
