  1. Hey guys!

And thanks for all the kind words. And thanks to you guys who took time listen to the early demos, (I really hope you guys keep em to yourselves ;)).

This forum has been really fun, especially when we used to have a functioning musicians section, me and Indiana used to do a lot of writing so I must credit him for teaching me a thing or two about english grammar :-p

First of all I just want to say that it's been a fucked up journey, even if it's not a glory story. It's definitely been a fun

Richard is one of the kindest and most caring people I know, and also an excellent musician. He's really put his own signature to the album and the album wouldn't sound the way it does, or even be as good without his playing.

First of all it's not a GNR wannabe album, it's our own thing, and I hope you guys appreciate our work! =)

we'll be having a new website up n running in within a couple of weeks. and the first single will be out July 5th or something like that. And the album will be out late August.

    Teddy

  2. But wait, you actually recorded it with Fortus? I DONT KNOW IF YOU'RE JOKING.

It's a really sweet song, I like it, nice work. :)

How did you start recording with him?

The joke was that we recorded it at home. I've been here a long time, and I know how fucking stupid a few people can be,

so I just thought I'd post it as "me and my friend bla bla recorded this song etc etc" :)

Anyways, me and Richard recorded the song yeah, that's no bollocks, just ask Jarmo from HTGTH or any of the mods here, they know the story. :)

We've done an album together. :) And although it might sound like a silly thing to say, you guys will get to hear the TRUE talent of Richard. :)

his tone, sound and playing is far BEYOND what you think he is made of. This song isn't all that. :) there are far better songs ;)

  3. Some of you people are practically in line to take a swing at this guy.

Go ahead, be my guest. But this kid doesn't have a million dollar studio to record in, let alone does he have great engineers behind him dialing in the tone so carefully that it becomes boring and again, boring. Also... He doesn't record the solo multiple times and then compile the best track.

Still he manages to get pretty fucking close in terms of tone and time. It's just so retarded that you guys sit behind your computer screens and talk shit about people like this. This guy clearly have some unique talent.

Because he can play a "Gnr song that really isn't that hard" as some of you say?

No, but because TONE is in your FINGERS. And he is getting the tone he wants with what I would call, modest means.

I've been around and worked with enough guitarists in enough studios to know a good player when I see one.

Maybe this guy can't WRITE his stuff. But believe it or not, in these days.

A good example must be Howard Benson who has two hired studio cats to play the guitar parts all over again after the band has written the songs cus he wants his records to sound a certain way. I know that happens elsewhere too.

SO just MAYBE.... just MAAAAAYBE.... before you guys talk shit about a guys talent. You start taking some other things into account... like... the stuff besides being able to write... but also stuff like being able to build a career on ur talent. You might be the best chip-chop Vai copy guitarist in the world, playing faster than God can think. But none of that matters if you can't market your talent and have some business savvy.

All I can say, if this guy has AVERAGE writing skills he has the chops to be as good as anybody.

Slash wasn't the best guitarist in the world in terms of speed or whatever. Maybe the riffs are simple.

But that just goes a long way to prove my point. You don't NEED that shit to be good.....

It's a spaghetti of many things!

  4. I like it.

The female singer doesn't sound convincing enough to me though. She could've sounded more confident on "The Hounds".

That makes me wanna hear more of the male singer.

I reckon these are demos, and they sound pretty good for demos.

The only thing I'm wondering is if you guys should lower the tempo a bit. let the songs breathe :)

    Anyways, good stuff.

  5. I dont know sounds okay , needs some trimming , too much lead guitar , simple is grand , other than that its okay really sounds like puddle of mudd gone metallica in the black album stage , Brother sounds like a grungey ballad , shouldnt have changed the riff it was going okay it made it sound more clouded

Id have personally had a diffrent intro for brother , this really reminds me of a puddle of mudd song again , she fucking hates me to be more specific.

seven's chorus sounds like it was recorded separate and pasted in , but the song its self is a big improvement , good job , the only thing i have a problem with are the lyrics to be honest.

better than before , what equipment did you use?

SSL 6056, PT HD3, 2" tape, Sony 24 track tape machine, some neve preamps and a shitload of amps and guitars.

weird that you think it sounds recorded separate and pasted, everything was pretty much tracked live... even the vocals.

    and especially the choruses.

Not sure where you get Metallica from.... OR Puddle...

On a different note, the console it was recorded and mixed on is what all your favorite records is recorded or mixed on.

It's super expensive and yes, it does make things sound better. And no, you can never make a recording sounding better.

  6. I'm not going to listen to your band just because of the way you went about telling us to. Just say, hey guys, listen to my band, I like G n R.

not sure he is saying it's his band?

It might be a bit mundane. But it's not all that bland. I feel if the vocals were mixed upfront like a country music, then it would be stronger.

Thus relying less on guitars and more on alternative arrangements.

But the quality is good. No real hooks, but all music doesn't have to be that.

Just a little too standard of a mix. But the band certainly has potential. Singer is good, lyrics good but not classic, good musicians and overall a pretty good production. I know of forum members who'd cut better solos though.

any idea where and who recorded this? EDIT:

    From the producers myspace:

    "About me:

I am an Atlanta Georgia based music Producer/Engineer/Mixer with 23 years experience making records. I have access to COCK OF THE WALK STUDIOS in Kennesaw but work in studios all over the country. Check out my site: JEFF TOMEI for my discography. A partial list of credits include: SMASHING PUMPKINS, MATCHBOX TWENTY, JERRY CANTRELL, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, OPERATOR, etc. Local and regional artists are listed here under music. I work with signed and unsigned Artists."

Operator is a pretty good band. Their singer is kinda boring but their a good band.

I just hate when people show up and say, "I found this band on myspace." Even though it's their band. I might not be. Who knows.

    I hear ya bro! :)

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN GOING?

    November 2003

    BEST MOMENT SO FAR

Everytime someone says they like my music :)

    STYLE OF MUSIC AND INFLUENCES

Main Influences are Guns n' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver.

yet there are no songs to be found on the net? hmm....

I'm dying to hear your take on "original" music with those influences listed.

could this be your all original band.... http://www.myspace.com/sterlinguk ?

  9. Sane people like your friends? LOL gettn your friends to post good things about you don't mean a thing.

I don't know the guy... I also haven't listened to his music yet.

I am the singer you idiot!

Erm, that really is nothing to be proud of. So I'll rephrase my comment... You, as a singer, lack the balls required to try and sing that material.

My involvement in you're argument is over, you're boring and stupidly immature.

I'm impressed over the quality of your argument. :)

  10. 1. Browser... wtf man!? He was just pointing out bands with long intros... no harm there. He was hardly saying "I have long intros like Guns N' Roses, they are just as good, vital and intense!".

    2.

here is what I can do.... www.myspace.com/scariestcrow

    so go FUCK yourself!!!

Tell him I think your music fucking sucks! And tell him that I think you have a bad attitude. And tell him if had anything to do with recording your songs that I'll kick his ass!

There is a huge difference between honest opinions and just been fuckin' nasty. You say that he's got a bad attitude? Get bent.

    3.

here is what I can do.... www.myspace.com/scariestcrow

You can do unoriginal compositions real fucking well. Congratulations. Medal?

    4.

    so go FUCK yourself!!!

Back at ya, my thoughts exactly.

    5. Production can kill songs. Your songs sound like they've been polished. You music and singer lacks balls.

Personal preference and its all down to taste, I guess. This is my opinion... You can't polish a turd and expect to get away with it. Your music bores me.

Good thing there's other sane people on this board, I was worried.

sane people like your friends? LOL gettn your friends to post good things about you don't mean a thing.

And yeah, you oughtta know Zach, if you really go to Berklee and recorded a school project he would be the guy who runs the studio.

I don't see why someone at Berklee would record a school project outside school.... something smells iffy...

    then again....

  11. I do know my instrument, bud. I know it in a songwriting sense and a technical sense as I'm a student at Berklee College of Music. How the hell do you know what my attitude towards music is? You just like to rant on a messageboard and pretend you know way more than you do. Lets hear what you can do.

here is what I can do.... www.myspace.com/scariestcrow

    so go FUCK yourself!!!

And also, if you're @ berklee, say hello to Zach from TED!!! Tell him I think your music fucking sucks! And tell him that I think you have a bad attitude. And tell him if had anything to do with recording your songs that I'll kick his ass!

  12. no, smile wouldn't be an album opener. and 47 seconds isn't that long for an intro to a song. especially for one not opening an album. welcome to the jungle was an opener and had 40 seconds before vocals. songs aren't all about the vocals. smile is a ballad more along the lines of sweet child o' mine, which has a 46 second intro.

the chorus to smile is the "you smile and the waves come crashing down on me etc" part, that is repeated 4 times.

thanks for the input though everyone. these demos were recorded in 3 days for a school project. most everything was first or second take, with not many overdubs. the other members are actually starting to learn the songs now, which helps.

dude your singer is tone deaf

    Gunsguy

Personally, i think the guitar effect on rising sun is awful. and the singer, well, lets not go there. He's tone deaf.

Smile sounds good. but could have a lot of work done on it

    my thoughts exactly!

How dare you have an intro of 47 seconds before any vocals kick in?

Who the fuck do you think you are? Why do you keep me waiting for 47 seconds on your intro song. The very first song that you put up to play on your myspace?

What makes you think that I as a listener got 47 seconds to spare before you decide that it's a good time to sing something?

Either way, that's just a thought. Now over to the songs themselves.

smile: intro too long (if to be an album or myspace opener)

The band isn't nearly tight enough. it's actually so out of time that it's disturbing at times.

As for the singer, have him take lessons. Yes, the guy that plays the piano and tells you a thing or two about your "instrument".

is there a chorus in the song? cus I don't hear it. Some occasional nice ambient guitar work though.

Rising song: The same awful singer, same timing issues. And what's up with the wet guitars?

Keep on shining? The sun is gonna stop shining if you played this to him.

Without a Trace: Seems to be the best of the bunch. The singer ain't all that bad on this.

But the vocal melody lines could be more dynamic. Explore the beauty in vocal range. If the singer has more than a one octave range. Hell, even with a one octave range he should be able to pull off something more dynamic.

The guitar work ain't all that bad.

When the intro for hope for sale started I gave up listening...........

    FIRE THE SINGER!

OK! Now you got me fucking pissed off! How the fuck you dare comparing your shitty ass song to WTTJ???????

Lets forget SONGWRITING for a second and focus on craftsmanship. Those guys could PLAY!!!!!!

They had the technical ability and knowledge to pull of a 40 second intro. Now, add the musicianship part into the equation.

That's why great bands can pull of either a long intro or long instrumental parts. It's all about keeping people interested.

Go record ur 40 second intro and see what any low level producer will tell you....

Problem with most bands nowaday isn't, believe it or not, musicianship, it's the inability to PLAY their own fucking instruments.

You might say Kurt Cobain was a shitty guitarist, on a technical level he really was a shitty player and was very limited. But he atleast mastered what he knew! So before you start dropping names and naming bands with 40 second intros. Look at your guitar and tell me if you can play it how you WANT to play it. Or are you the one who's like everybody else who will NEVER make it?!?

I'm fucking tired of kids like yourself with a shitty attitude towards music.

If you want to make music your future job, then you need to study your instrument as hard as anything else.
