Do you guys consider Don't Cry to be a power ballad? I usually associate power ballads with bands like Bon Jovi and Poison.
This songs sounds different, it has more soul than a typical power ballad. I say no. But on the other hand it does have all the power ballad ingredients - a quiet start that builds up to a soaring guitar solo and then with loud singing.

CD was not that good so I don't have much have hope for these unreleased unfinished songs from the past.

If GNR had to stand on Chinese Democracy alone this forum would not even exist.
100% true. Chinese Democracy had no hit song on it whatsoever. Maybe Better comes close. Even TSI had Since I don't have you.
I don't think we'll see anything as good as Appetite or The Illusions albums. Pretty much every artist only has 2 -3 really good albums in their career.
If Axl decides to make another album he should put more faster rockers on there and less ballads.

I have to say I agree about the crowds. A lot of the crowd at Reading were just there to get drunk not to enjoy the music. Mosh pit to QOTSA's no one knows didn't fit at all.

I've uploaded some small videos that I made last night. The quality's not the greatest as I wasn't that close to the stage and cos I was actually trying to enjoy the show.

Thanks for the vids!
In spite of the strict curfew at the end of the show, it seems it was a great show
It was an excellent show, by far the best of the whole day.
The annoying thing was that there was still loud music being played after Guns' set finished. It should be one rule for all. The crowd around where I was standing were lifeless, they only seemed to respond to the very big hits like Jungle and Sweet Child O Mine, and then you had dickheads shouting out 'you're not Slash' to Ashba.
The performances were all brilliant but I think Guns should modify their show for festivals. At festivals most of the crowd are not hardcore fans like they are in the arena concerts therefore they won't appreciate the finer things. I think they should drop the lengthy guitar solos and piano solos and just stick to the songs. I really liked Ashba's solo and Fink's James Bond theme but it killed the continuity just when the crowd were getting into it. Also Axl should talk more to the crowd even if it is one of his rants.

I just got back from Reading. I just went to see Guns N Roses. If I had known that they were gonna do a UK arena tour then I wouldn't have bothered going. Most of the lineup was total shit. Billy Talent and NOFX were generic shitty punk who tried to get the crowd to go and see the equally generic Alkaline Trio instead of GNR. Lost Prophets and Biffy Clyro were average. QOTSA were decent.
Yeah Guns N Roses were late but I suppose it does take a long time to set up a complex stage like the one they had, with fire, fireworks, videos etc. It's a shame the power got cut off.
I thought Axl was the only singer who had a decent voice in the whole festival.
Doubt I'll go Reading ever again.

I've got tickets for the Friday at Reading, but I'm disappointed how they've split the days up. Up until last year they used to have all the hard rock acts on one day, usually a Sunday. Now they've split them up across the Friday and Sunday. I would rather see GNR, Queens of the stone age, Paramore, Limp Bizkit all on one day rather than shit like Gogol Bordello. I hope they anounce some other decent bands for the Friday.

I've just booked my tickets for the Friday at Reading Festival. They better not cancel!!!

I think the reason these guys use drugs is to help them perform show after show on the road. It's probably difficult to do day after day. Plus they have a lot of time on their hands and have nothing else to do. Slash even said that when GNR had nothing to do they would just end up taking drugs.

The album is bloody great. The best rock album I've heard for a long time. But what's the point of having a new singer if he's hardly ever gonna sing?
-
They should just call it quits, that funk, rap, rock thing with Frusciante singing all the aaaahhhhs is old.

Both bands are pretty limited musically, Cobain and Noel Gallagher aren't gonna win any awards for their guitar playing. But Oasis have a good singer and songs. Nirvana are far too basic in both their music and lyrics, plus Cobain's voice starts to grate after a while.
I would say Oasis is comfortably the better band, plus its nice to have a band that isn't wrapped up in self pity and over angst.

It'd be boring if they made every album the same like AC/DC. There's plenty of clean vocals on their debut album, which sound even more poppier than the new album. The chorus of Spit It Out sounds like some teen punk band as does Wait and bleed.
Just cos the new album has a lot of clean vocals it doesn't mean it sounds like Stone Sour.
The production on the last two albums has been so much better, you can really hear the drums pound.
I don't think the majority of the songs are radio songs, at least not in England. If you wanna hear the kind of songs on this album you have to wait until midnight for the Radio 1 rock show. Maybe Snuff and Dead Memories could be played during the day but thats about it.

Come on man, Corey Taylor sounds great on this. It doesn't sound like Stone Sour at all!

What do you guys think about the new Slipknot album 'All hope is gone'
I wasn't a fan of their first two albums as I thought they were mostly just random noise. But this and the last album 'Vol 3 Subliminal Verses' have been great with excellent guitars, drumming and singing from Corey Taylor, he's truly one of the best rock singers around today.
Check out the tracks Sulfur, Pyschosocial and Butcher's Hook for a taste of the album.
Any of you guys fans?

The best album is The Real Thing. The best songs are The Real Thing, From out of nowhere and Falling to pieces! They went to arty farty after The Real Thing, kinda like Guns.

I can't believe that people actually vote for MJ, sure he's a great artist, but here is asked for the greatest singer. MJ with his whiny "I dont want to grow up so i speak and sing like a little girl" voice is nowhere near the greats like Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes or Barry White.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What the hell? Michael Jackson has one of the best voice of all time, it has great power, range and is very exciting and energetic. Listen to his singing on Wanna Be Starting Somethin and Beat It, that ain't whining. Unlike Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, MJ mostly made uptempo songs in which it is much harder to sing well, plenty of singers can sing/warble on those soul ballads (MJ has done this on She's Out of My Life) and stretch those notes, but it takes an amazing voice to pull of what MJ used to do in the Off The Wall/Thriller days. And MJ's voice as a kid is just as good, if not better.

Does Cornell actually rap in the RATM songs? I can imagine him doing Killing In The Name Of as thats quite an easy one to perform, but I dunno how he does the others.

I like Hendrix, Slash, Prince, Kim Thayil and Dave Navarro. I don't really care for guitarists who over play and try to show off.
-
Maiden by far, I can't stand anything Ozzy does, he has got a really weak voice that doesn't suit metal.

I could never get into them in the first place. I've only heard the Brian Johnson stuff, I find his voice terrible, he sounds like he's just been stabbed in the balls.
