I think the point is you have to gauge the guest's comfort level and then ask questions accordingly - and maybe Sid just didn't feel the moment was right to ask such a question or he may not even care enough about the question to ask it. If the guest enjoys their interview and feels they were represented fairly on the show, there's a decent chance they may refer Sid and the show to other VIP guests which would be valuable. They may even come back for a round 2 interview - which would be a better opportunity to ask more pointed questions since there's some trust established between Sid and the guest. The more high profile interviews Sid does, the more his interviews get circulated in other media outlets which leads to further opportunities for the show. It's in his best interest to do interviews the way he's doing them now. Besides, you'd be surprised by how often a seemingly innocent question can backfire with a guest during an interview if they don't know or trust you. It doesn't take much.
Given the caliber of people Sid is interviewing, I think he probably knows what he's doing.
thanks, that basically sums it up. If people want to ask those questions I look forward to their podcasts. We have a lot of discussions off the record which i won't share, but it becomes clear to me what I can and can't ask.

I always found this an interesting topic. Whenever I interviewed Sean Beavan and Youth I brought this up and they talked about Axl playing guitar on chinese democracy songs. I've compiled the comments, interviews etc from over the years. I even remember the rumors of Axl playing rhythm guitar around 96 before Slash left.

It’s only my assumption, but asking shitty questions is not the best way to entice someone into an interview. If you knew the guy on previous to you was raked over the coals you’re hardly likely to want to be next!
Maybe sidman can fill us in?
i don't want to shed too much light on how we get guests. We sometimes have to tread lightly.

you guys remember Axl came out and listed Michael Jackson as one of his favourite singers a few years back?
""If I had to say who I thought the best singers were, I'd say first that I don't know there's a definitive answer as in my opinion it's subjective, and second that my focus is primarily rock singers," he told Spin. "That said, I enjoy Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, [Nazareth singer] Dan McCafferty, Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Roger Daltrey, Don Henley, [Electric Light Orchestra frontman] Jeff Lynne, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, [jazz singer] Jimmy Scott, Etta James, Fiona Apple, [Pretenders frontwoman] Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Wonder, James Brown and a ton of others (predominantly Seventies rock singers) and would rather hear any of them anytime rather than me!""

Great interview! Regardless of what anybody thinks of Alan Niven or Doug Goldstein as people or as managers, I've never seen either one disappoint as interviewees!
The whole thing about Yoda never ceases to amaze me. How could adults of normal intelligence fall for such an obvious scam?
yeah i was thinking the same thing.

I be sure that job of this guy not was very easy, this was the worst years of the band 😑
yeah Doug made a ton of money, but lost it to his two ex wives. Yeah seemed super stressful

A few comments....Never heard someone who talked so fast as Doug. Its hard to understand at times, but i could get the jist. When you asked him about rerecorded vocals for live era, i had to laugh. Of Course they are rerecorded, come on man.
thanks. Yeah I still think live era is clearly re-recorded.

He is very full of himself. I can sure see why some of the guys don't like him, but he sure did have a big job dealing with them. He definitely has to have a ton of of stories.
yeah i had a similar view to Doug that a lot of people had. After talking with Doug my view of him changed. One thing I've learned is that everyone in the GNR camp has their own version of events. Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Nice. I hope you confronted him with slash and duffs quotes, how he was responsible for the division of the old band
one thing i've learned from doing a lot of interviews, talking off the record with a lot of people that nobody's stories line up or match. Everybody has their own version of events.

I’ve ordered the book and George Chin’s 1995 photobook.I’ve been following the GNR central interviews for the past month, my favourite was Sean Beavan. I’m halfway through Teddy’s. Have been following the band since 88, but only got to see them from 2002. Download will be my 18th GNR gig. I agree that Appetite is the best, but contrary to most views Chinese D is an overlooked gem, imo. Criticism of overproduction really, GNR are balls out not Radiohead (which are another favourite of mine). What bad songs are on CD?
Thanks! We interviewed Doug Goldstein for over 3 hours on the weekend. We'll be posting it on wednesday morning! Doug even shed a few tears during our interview. Some really good stories he had.

Axl Rose Gets Upset at Opening Act (Australia 1988)
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Posted
Here's a story a lot of fans may not know about. Back in 1988 Guns played a few shows in Australia. One of the opening bands Kings of the Sun criticized GNR as being a Rose Tattoo rip off. Axl read the interview and didn't take too kindly to it.
