  1. GN'R fans in a nutshell:

    RELEASE CHINESE DEMOCRACY!!!!!

    (They release it..........eventually)

    GO ON TOUR!!!!!!!!!!

(They go on tour...for a long fuckin' time)

CHANGE THE SETLIST!!!!!! PLAY CIVIL WAR AND ESTRANGED!!!!

(They play a 3+ hour goddamn set with both of those tunes and a ton of others)

STOP PLAYING THE SAME 3+ HOUR SETLIST!!!!!

(They start playing the same 2.5 hour setlist instead. Hey, technically they listened)

STOP TOURING AND MAKE NEW MUSIC!!!!!!

(They stop touring. Then announce some touring that will feature some new music they made)

THIS MUST BE BULLSHIT!!! AXL HATES HIS FANS AND NEVER GIVES THEM WHAT THEY WANT!!!!!!! UM, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN WHATEVER YOU JUST SAID YOU'RE DOING!!!!

...anyone have anything to add to that? I rarely post but thought I'd sum it up nicely for some of ya'll who have clearly never read "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie..."

  2. Smoking doesn't affect the singing voice / vocal chords half as much as people think, but it does affect the pipes. If you run out of breath, you have less control over the voice, and for many singers that results in putting too much pressure on the vocal chords, ultimately damaging them. That is the main issue with smoking and singing, not the smoke damaging the vocal chords.

The "rasp" has nothing to do with smoking. There are some blues singers who have a natural raspy voice and actual control over it (in like being able to use overtones and halftones with rasp), but that's not the case with Axl who is a straight baritone.

He's doing fine on certain rasp parts (Rocket Queen for example) but that's usually his comfort zone stuff with pitch chromatic notes, as soon as it becomes bluesy or too melodic, rasp is pretty much hit and miss for him. By now he should use the Don't Let It Bring You Down / Seeker voice more often, the rasp isn't gone but he has less and less control over it.

The reason why he often sounds like shit these days is not because he can't sing, it's because he aged and didn't adapt the material accordingly like say Robert Plant did. He is still a fantastic singer, but he's lazy as fuck and just one stupid motherfucker. With a little effort and an open mind, he could blow any singer out of the water, but he seems to be fine with repeating the same mistakes over and over and on top of that composing and releasing original material he is struggling to sing. He will never sound great again. He could, but he's got his head all the way up his own ass.

With all due respect, to quote My Cousin Vinny - "Everything that guy just said is bullshit."

Axl a baritone? "Pitch chromatic notes"? (What does that even mean according to you much less what is chromatic in the vocal melody of Rocket Queen?)

Axl can't sing anymore but Robert Plant can? Flip that around. Axl can still sing "Welcome to the Jungle" just fine most nights, and in it's original key to boot. Zeppelin tuned down a whole step for Celebration Day and he reinterpreted all the melodies to suit his new range. I loved that show, but facts are facts, and that's very likely why Plant won't tour with Zeppelin - he knows it's not the same.

Axl lazy? Must be why he chooses to sing over 25 songs a night at the age of 50.

Axl sings just fine considering his age and length of shows. He has occasional bad nights, usually due to illness, and that's a testament to him having the balls to not fake it and to almost never cancel these days.

  3. the way he smokes that cig!

    :jerkoff:

    DJ "better" than Slash?

Look I love the new lineup and Slash hasn't exactly thrilled me for the past decade, but wow.

Dude from Dragonforce is "better" than Angus Young if you sit them down and have them do drills. So what?

And if you're rating a guitar player in part by how they look, uh, smoking a cigarette, you're probably doing it wrong...

  4. Too bad they didn't broadcast this show instead.

He's nowhere near 100% but crowd sure didn't notice. Better didn't go over well, but I didn't like it either and I love that song. I've seen Chinese material go over well live plenty of times, but this just didn't work. Maybe songs with 400 layers aren't meant to be unplugged. Rest of the set was fine.

Looking forward to Vegas, hope to make it out to a show.

    Good. Fucking. Night.

  5. Agreed. If I could only show one song from Chinese to a random GN'R fan who hadn't heard it, it'd probably be this one. One of Axl's finest songwriting moments, and some of Brain and Buckethead's finest playing moments. It's unfuckwithable.

  6. Nah, if he were truly badass and rock n' roll, he'd quit on the spot and refuse the money and release an open letter explaining why. He's bitching online to people who can't help him and can't change anything, and it accomplishes nothing other than upsetting people who don't deserve to be upset. Bitching on Twitter is NOT what I think of when I think of a badass member of Guns N' Roses.

I get he's gotta make a living. But he can't have it both ways. Either make a living and be a gentleman or take a risk, quit, and THEN talk some shit. This is ridiculous and sad.

At which point you'd be on here crying and cursing him out about the fact that it was big bad Bumble's fault that Axl had to cancel the tour. If you want to give Bumble shit for speaking out in public about this shit then what do you think Axl would have done if the tour had to be cancelled?

You don't know me or what I'd say, but nice try. And cancel what tour? There's one date left!

Were you around in 04? There was a lynch mob out for Buckethead since he was to blame for the canceling of ONE show. How bad do you think it would have been if Ron decided to not go on this tour.

I've been around since the AOL message board days in 1996 when I was 12. I took a break between 2000 and 2006 because I thought Oh My God and the 2002 tours were awful, but then the band (and Axl in particular) had one of the most amazing turnarounds I've ever seen. Second to maybe the new Van Halen record and tour. You just proved my point that you don't know me. Ron leaving due to his injuries would be MORE than understandable, we've all known about it, it's common knowledge, and those of us who are reasonable human beings would applaud him for putting his health first. Life isn't always that simple, but this in particular is unacceptable.

Honestly, I had a TON of respect for Ron. I can think of few active musicians who I look up to more as people and as players. When I brought people to the three shows in L.A. this year, I made sure they knew how much pain the dude was in and what a trooper he was. It was really admirable that he gave his best and was so good to his audience when anyone in his position would probably just want to be a bitter asshole.

This is just not cool at all. There's no excuse. I know I'm upset reading it/wish he didn't have to suffer, because I'm sure a lot of this is related to his injuries (if Izzy and the rest of the band aren't doing this...), but I sit here thinking "okay, now I'm upset and I'm sure a lot of other people are, what does this solve other than upsetting people who have no part in this and don't deserve to be upset?"

I don't know the man. But I do care. I hope the best for him. Stuff like this makes it difficult though.

  8. Ron needs to shut the fuck up. I've officially lost respect and sympathy for him after this. And he's been really nice to me in the past. Accident or no accident, you don't bring your (often paying) audience into your personal problems.

How is it EVERYONE ON TWITTER'S fault that the dude doesn't like his job anymore? Why do they need the sour vibes? Is his non-stop bitching going to change anything? What does this solve other than make other people upset and worry about him when they can't do anything about it?

Fuck you Ron. Shut up, collect your money, and be a fucking gentleman. Whoever you're pissed at, you've officially sunk below their level with this.

Hahahahhaa! I love how Ron's a proper member of Guns n' Roses when he's doing Axl's bidding but as soon as he grows a pair it's "Shut the fuck up and collect your money".

And whoever said it, this IS on topic, they're tweets he sent out in relation to the show going on right now that he's currently playing at. Or a mod can move it to the other thread if I'm wrong. Kthxbye.

  10. At minimum it's not cool to do this to the people who are looking forward to seeing the remaining show(s).

Even if, realistically, 15 people out of 30,000 are there primarily as huge BBF fans wanting to hear the dude shred, that's a downer for those 15 people and they don't deserve that. He should know better.

That said, I hope he's alright under the circumstances as he's said it has affected his mood and personality. Of all the people in the world for something like this to happen to.

It'd be a shame for him to give up on the band as the tours have been great and the idea of new music sounds really promising, particularly with his involvement. This tour has by all looks and appearances been a success for everyone except a few clowns on the internet wanting to read a different list of songs on a website.

I hope the best for him, I feel he still has a lot to accomplish with the band if he gets the opportunity.

    Sorry

I was at this show, dead center and close to front row of the lower bowl.

As big of a fan as I am, I admit I was nervous the people I brought would say I wasted their time due to all the solos and 'unfamiliar material', "Where's Slash and what's with the top hat-like-hat on the new guy?", etc.

Well, I was the only one of the four of us to get up the entire three hours (piss break during Dizzy's solo).

During Sorry, specifically, was when I thought "okay, here's where the show either continues to kick ass for the people I brought or it's where they get bored."

My friends obviously dug it, but the coolest thing happened during Sorry. A couple rows behind me, I heard this exchange between two people:

    "What the hell is this?"

"I don't know, but it kicks fucking ass!"

It was at that moment I realized even if the crowd sits down during the CD songs, most are absorbing. Doesn't mean they don't like it.

  11. I feel stupid for not hearing the mistake.

I kind of do too but on watching it again I could see he was supposed to slow down & stop but the music was still going which sort of forced him to continue singing.

Didn't the guitarists also muck it up too then, they kept on playing rather than stopping where they should have, if they stopped Frank would have been playing to nothing?

Axl comes in on the "C" rather than the "G" at the end. It sounds like he's coming in late, but I think since the entire band kept playing, he came in a few measures early and on the wrong beat.

The entire band (six of them?) would have had to somehow move the song ahead a couple beats without it sounding like a mistake.

Monitor issues probably. I find most of Axl's "screw ups" involve him being a couple beats off from the rest of the band, but technically doing his parts perfectly, so it must have to do with whatever's going into his ears.

  12. 4 CD songs in a row with Tommy and Dizzy solos sandwiched in the middle = one patient audience!

I'd be just fine with it. An average concert goer? I wouldn't blame them for being a little annoyed right around the 3rd minute of "Baba O'Riley".

I don't know, Better and Shacklers always seem to get great reception from the audience.

Anyone who goes to a GnR concert and doesn't appreciate the privilege that is Shackler's does not deserve to be there...

For me personally, those are the songs I go to see Axl and Co. perform these days. Shackler's and Better were definitely the highlights of the L.A. shows for me because to my eyes and ears at least it really shows how well the new band gels. For some reason I'm also convinced BBF's back hurts slightly less while ripping that Shackler's solo so hearing it makes me happy!

For an average concert goer, sorry, but anyone who pays the cost of admission "deserves to be there" so long as they're not throwing shit or hurting anybody.

I'm just saying, I could understand if the audience were to get frustrated at that point in the show. It's not a complaint because it doesn't affect me and it wouldn't bother me personally. It's an empathetic observation. I have lots of friends who like GN'R and like the CD material, but even they'd get a little restless after that long of a stretch without any more well-known material put in between.

That said, wow! The show started during daylight! rock3

    Cheers folks!

  13. LOL at Guns N' Roses: 8:00.

PM or AM the next day???

Not a dig at the band I just think that's hilarious. Now THAT is contempt for the audience, whoever said that (and guaranteed it wasn't the redhead).

Do people show up to restaurants that are notoriously full expecting to be seated right away as well?

Seriously, how do people not know better by now?
