  1. I'll be curious to see this. I know Eddie is a fan, and Jim Florentine has stuck up for Axl/Guns/Chinese Democracy many, many times on TMS, but Don Jamieson has made several jabs before. Plus, he's the one that tends to ask the edgier questions. I guess I'll have to put Skyrim down for long enough that night ;)

  2. The demo is a classic piece of music. I love it. I also love the final version, it's just different. Thing I can never pick out, if I remember correctly, it's credits both Ron and Robin for guitar solos in 'Catcher', but it all sounds like Ron to me. I know Ron plays the main solo but I assumed maybe Robin is playing some of the outro somewhere but I could never pick it out...?

  3. If I had it my way, they'd perform the whole of 'Chinese Democracy' every night but I'm also a semi-realistic person. 'TWAT', 'Catcher', and 'Prostitute' are obviously the heavy hitters we all wanna hear, and at least, the 3 should be roated nightly. But 'Shackler' and 'IRS' should definitely be staples, and I say drop 'It's So Easy', 'Mr. Brownstone', and 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' in favor of those, plus yes, 'If the World'. When they did it live and turned it into like a 6 minute long funk jam, it was AMAZING. Axl really pulled out some amazing vocals. But yes, above all, 'Shackler's Revenge' should be played every night. Hell, play it twice a night...

  4. I often wonder if or how often they've ever kept in communication. 'The Expendables 2" also comes out next summer. Shinedown did 'Diamond Eyes' for the first one and it was a huge hit.

  5. That band right there, will to me, ALWAYS be the best line-up GNR have ever had. No disrespect to Ron or DJ or really anyone else, but if they had capitalized on that, in all sincerity, that could've been one of the biggest bands in the world. It really makes me sick to think of the potential that was squandered away. The current guys have really limitless potential, and I'm on the edge of my seat to see what they can come up with, they're amazing, but the Robin/Bucket/Brain band had more creative potential than I can even fathom. I don't really see a huge problem with anything other than Axl running around and being out of breath. The band were spot fuckin' on, and that will probably always remain my favorite version of 'Madagascar'. Axl's delivery and phrasing, the emotion and epic feeling from the whole thing, and the way those guitars are just raw and ripping through everything else, it's a feat...

  6. There isn't an old gnr song that this band plays better than the old band. There isn't an old GNR song that Axl sings better now than old Axl. It is what it is.

I would have to disagree with you. I would say nearly EVERY song they play, technically, they play better than the old band. I can't really even bring myself to listen to much of the old live stuff because it sounds like weak and flat. The current band makes everything sound so much fuller and meatier.

  7. DJ Ahba is a great guitar player, he plays with much more feeling than Finck, Bumblefoot or Buckethead.

I love GNR, but when I watched a GNR performance on Youtube back in 2006...I was like...mmkay, Robin fucks up many times, and it is played without feeling...

I think Ashba is the right guitarist to replace Slash...

Oh, there's just one thing...He should not behave like he's Slash. (Clothing, attitude) ..wonder if Axl wanted him to...

To say that Robin played with no feeling is absolutely untrue. If anything, I think he's played with MORE feeling than any other guitarist in the history of GNR. Yeah, I said it...

  8. I think they've really done a superb job with it, but it shouldn't be a staple on the set list. I've never been a huge fan of it, it's not in my top 25 GNR songs even. I think it's cool that they brought it back for the fans, but at this point, I'm way more interested in any post-"Oh My God" material. The old stuff has been done to death...

  9. Me, too. Sounds interesting.

Wow, didn't know CITR was scheduled as the lead single.

That was really just rumor at the time. There was also a supposed image from the "video shoot" which was to be baseball themed, and the image showed a supposed Axl dancing with all of these Chinese girls with '02-era Robin haircuts. I'm thinking some of them may have had KFC buckets on their head, maybe I'm making that part up. Can't remember...

  10. Lol. Who said they couldn't play it? Any virtuoso studio musician like ron can learn any song. That doesn't impress me though, not at all. He can do every bend sonically perfect but the emotion, the connection of the piece to the author, is always missing. Im waiting for the to write a song like this one.

But if you want to use that logic, technically very, VERY little of the entire set has any original composition from any current members of the band. A good song is a good song, and just because it's not the guy that wrote it not performing it, doesn't make the emotional connection any less. If anything, it's more in this case because they're playing 'Estranged' for ONE reason: the fans.

  11. Dammit to hell. $94. Those Goddamn fees, man. I'll be there. Can't friggin' wait. Maybe some of the guys will hop over to Tootsies for an acoustic set after the show...

Edit: And BTW, I expect this show to do pretty damn well. Nashville stays starved for decent rock shows. I've seen crappy shows fill up Bridgestone many a time. Anyone know off the top of their head the last time GNR's been in Nashville??? I know they haven't since '01 at least.

  12. The thing about U2 is you have to really give everything a chance. Most of their albums sound completely different, as they go through "phases", experimenting with all different things. But listen to some of the songs I listed and you're guaranteed to find some stuff you like. BTW, the song you said you liked from Batman is "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me". Def my fave out of their rock stuff...

  13. one thing I do not get, U2!? Oh god. worse than justin bieber.

Come on, man. I totally get not liking them, but to say they're worse than Bieber? I know you're exaggerating but still. They have some fantastic songs. Go beyond just the "hits" and you'll find songs that, in my estimation, are some of the best songs of at least the last 25 years. 'Kite', 'Ultraviolet (Light My Way)', 'Moment of Surrender', 'Original of the Species', 'Gone', 'Stay', 'Bullet the Blue Sky', listen to those songs and tell me those aren't GREAT songs. And even the material they did during experimentation are quite good, like 'Mofo', 'Discotheque', 'Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me', 'Please', 'Zoo Station', 'Staring at the Sun'. I could go on and on and on. And seeing them live is beyond words, if you're a fan I suppose. Biggest production I've ever seen, immense. And people believe so strongly in their music. Singing 'With or Without You' and 'One' with 65,000 other people in unison is something I'll never forget...

  14. Its true. I get so fucking tired of everyone wanting to be done and home by 10 or 11 pm with everything. I can't tell you how many people I hear bitch at shows. Enjoy it. Live a bit. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone.

  15. Yeah, one of my biggest regrets in life is never having got to see Michael live. I mean, he hadn't toured since I was a kid, but we go to concerts all of the time, I've seen a lot of bands and people that I hold in high regard (GNR, U2, Metallica, AC/DC, Motley Crue, Bob Seger, Kid Rock, etc.), but I never got to see him. When he first announced his London shows, I'd seriously entertained the idea of flying to London to go, but alas, it never came to fruition. One cool thing is at least I have tickets to go see the Michael Jackson Immortal Cirque de Soleil show never summer. It looks amazing...

  16. Without a doubt. It's really hard for me to put into words how GNR (and mainly Axl) have affected my life. But coming in a close 2nd is U2. They have a much broader, bigger, more immense catalogue of songs, and I could easily name 30 or 40 songs of theirs that are just mind blowingly great, and this past summer, I got to see them live, which was my big life goal, after having got to see GNR, though. It was surreal and very much a spiritual experience. It was honestly like being at church. People were crying, waiving their arms in the air, it was like nothing I've ever seen. And on top of it all, Bono came and sang right to us. I've got vids if I ever get around to putting them on YouTube. And at a close 3rd, Michael Jackson. There was always something about him, his sincerity, his excitement, his groove and rhythm, his talent. Obviously his numerous hits will always be cherished by everyone, even rockers and hip hoppers know 'Thriller' and 'Billie Jean'. But oddly enough, most of his BEST stuff was the stuff he came out with later in life, namely with HIStory, Blood on the Dance Floor, and Invincible. Those 3 acts have forever affected me and touched my soul, and I thank them for it...

  17. The ONLY older material I'd have any interest whatsoever in hearing would be 'Civil War', 'Coma', and 'Locomotive'. They should seriously drop 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door'. It goes on for waaaay too long. There's no reason whatsoever that they shouldn't be playing AT LEAST 8-10 'Chinese Democracy' songs, not to mention 'Oh My God', and if they're so dead set on covers, throw in 'Sympathy For the Devil'...
