  1. Some great films :

    The Cranes Are Flying

    Solaris

    Urga (Close to Eden)

    Battleship Potemkin

'the cranes are flying' is definitely one of the best russian movies ever made.

urga is magnificent too, the landscapes are so beautiful

  2. Just surprising that he's in the thank you credits.... Makes me he think he performed on some track....

there are many musicians in the thank you credits, that doesn't mean they played on live era.

if tobias had played on the album, he certainly would have been credited as "additional musician" or as "backing musician".

  4. It sounds strange calling Verhoeven serious, but his dutch movies are very different.

basic instinct is the most important movie from the nineties, so no, it's not strange calling him serious.

basic instinct is an absolute masterpiece, comparable to wagner's greatest operas

  5. basic instinct and sliver are the two most important films from the nineties.

sharon stone is really the greatest, she's a wagnerian goddess. her performance in those movies are so intense and bright, it's just amazing

heat, casino and eyes wide shut are good too.

  6. But there are no songs in classical music.

lol, there are plenty of songs in the so called "classical music", which is by the way, the only genuine music. i would need an essay to explain why "classical" music is the only genuine music, but that's how it is.

    Exactly.

    A few examples :

    I don't call that songs, but aria's/ arietta's.

To me 'classical music' is a different world than nowadays music, partly cause of the much higher level. That's why I can't call it 'songs' and better for another list IMO. But that's not really important. Again just how you look at it.

Already happy to see more people loving classical music.

You don't call that songs but Cecilia Bartoli calls them songs... :shrugs:

You're right about making the distinction between songs and arias. But great composers as Mozart composed several songs :

Mozart composed comparatively few songs (as opposed to arias) - about 30. The best-known is 'Das Veilchen' ('The Violet'). Some others are 'Komm, lieber Mai', 'Das Traumbild', 'An Chloe', and 'Der Zauberer'.

Anyway, let's enjoy music. As long as it's good, nothing else really matters.

  7. Unrelated - they're releasing "The Ring" on Blu Ray shot at the Met a couple of years ago.

The Ring is probably the greatest piece of music ever written. Solti's and Böhm's versions are the best. By the way, Solti's version is being reissued tomorrow as a deluxe numbered edition (only 1250 copies in US) :
