  1. AFD: Sweet Child O' Mine - Way overrated
    GN'R Lies: You're Crazy - Something about it just gives you this lazy, procrastinating feel I cannot stand
    UYI 1: November Rain - It comes across too Narcissistic & in-love-with-oneself kind of way
    UYI 2: Don't Cry (Alternate Lyrics) - It tried, but failed to get that depth & meaning that real Don't Cry achieved
    TSI: Can't say yet; I have barely listened to the album
    Chinese Democracy: Riad N' The Bedouins - It's a meaningless, random song of no value or depth

    I'm usually criticising Axl harshly and I agree with everythin you have said except the retirement part.

    It's not like he's been working in corpo or being an athlete to retire.

    Hard to define what is retirement in art and or for artists.

    He's a shit performer these days but it's up to him what he wants to do with his career.

    True that. I would've seen him in Sydney had he charged $50-100AU, just for the sake of it, but paying $500AU for a concert ticket to see a shit performance.....no way. Besides, my music tastes have changed to New-Age, Ambient/Electronic type these days & I can endlessly get to listen to such tracks on YouTube for hours long & for free just by subscribing to the artists. Axl is really out of his mind these days :lol: But I must admit that he WAS something amazing in his days...

  3. Axl should just retire :facepalm: He's used up his time, his period & his opportunity & he just has to accept that he has done what he has done & he has no more time. I don't think that he has done exactly everything he could have done but nonetheless what he has done did make quite a footprint on music history & that is all that matters. Now I simply move on with other music & that is it.

    Well, I think hard rock or any genre can be any age, I have family members in their 50’s enjoying heavy metal and I’m sure in their old age they will enjoy it just as much. I love Prince’s music (can you tell ha!) and I was watching a live video of a song called Electric Chair the other day and my 2 year old was dancing.. literally jigging around and busting out all kinds of moves. Point being any age, any genre. 🙂

    You just seemed a little angsty about Axl and his not releasing music choice. There’s more to enjoy elsewhere. Let’s just be happy he’s still rocking, happier than he has been is so long and at least still performing the classics we all love 🙂

    Well, he certainly has made his own footprint on musical history. Maybe he hasn't made as much music as many people would have preferred him to make, but the amount that he has made has certainly been exceptional/incredible. What has made made Axl so outstanding as a musician is that all his music has been quite diverse as well as far more talented than other rock bands of his era. His live concerts have without a shadow of a doubt been some of the most the most incredible you could ever see, due to his preparation, his unique vocals & his stage presence. All I am saying is that he could have put himself even a few seats higher had he wanted to do so, but no doubt that even what he has done has done has been extraordinarily amazing :headbang::heart:

    Because he’s not a sheep? Why does it matter? Is Axl touring and not releasing new music ruining your life? If so then get out there man, enjoy everything else life has to offer! Life is surprisingly short, go be happy. Find other bands or artists that are more prolific. I come on here just to see any news updates, see general chit chat, funny posts, the moaners, the praisers and occasionally bizarre but funny Karice posts. I think with GNR now it’s just whatever happens, happens. A “don’t expect and you won’t be disappointed” kinda thing. And that’s okay 🙂

    To tell you the truth I generally don't listen to music like hard rock anymore; it's really music for the young generation that is growing up & has a lot of energy & needs music like this to go wild/crazy & rock out. Perfectly understandable if one asks me. I have for the most past grown out of it & it doesn't appeal to me anymore. What I did like about Axl is that each time he did make some music, it was always something different & something new, as well as having some serious talent in it; in fact his song Sorry really amazes me, in that it gave me something to connect with when I was dealing with a malignant Narcissistic mother; Sorry is like a song against Narcissism if you ask me. Nowadays, I have changed tastes & I like music like New-Age/Ambient-Electronic, for example groups like Enigma & Enya as some of the best, but I love the fact that now I can just go on YouTube & subscribe to as many New-Age/Ambient-Electronic musicians & get to listen to hours & hours long peaceful, serene, beautiful songs & all for free. World changes my friend & I'll say that Axl has done some quite amazing stuff nonetheless, just saying that had he filled his time even more productively, he would have been seen across the world as a God within his sort of music which as we know, changed all the time which was what made it so unique anyway. World changes, people change, all changes :shades:

  6. He would sound at his best if they first released a new album or at least half a dozen new songs, then got to touring with 2 hour shows featuring approximately 20 songs with at least 4 being new ones, made the tour approximately 1-2 years long & no more, ensuring that the album gets released in that range of time, then repeated the same process over & over. Every other musician can follow that reasonable process, but for Axl it is ultra hard. Why is that? :facepalm:

    It's from Terminator 2, so It's about Arnold saving John and his mother and the world. lol

    I don't think it's about being happy with the woman he's with since she seems to want more from him than Axl can give her.  Typical story about a rocker and their woman.

    You mean that Axl & the Terminator are supposed to gaslight each other and fight fire with fire? :blink:

  8. I have just been observing the song I've been looking at deeper & given its lyrics, it seems to be talking how we humans who are becoming Global today should have no borders, no nations, just a diverse multicultural world where every single person once they grow up is free to pic their own partner to produce kids with, however they like it most & they are free to believe anything as long as they don't suppress other's rights & are tolerant of all human beings. This is why in the late 80s & early 90s people wondered if Guns N' Roses were sexist; with Slash they were given a pass for a racially diverse band but not a gender diverse band & the lyrics of songs, especially You Could Be Mine which talks about men impregnating women on the bed & just leaving them gave them a bad reputation. To be a cold heartbreaker, fit ta burn & rip a woman's heart out & leave her lying on the bed is indeed sexist & very weak. Axl didn't failed to have kids with Erin Everly, no wonder he was so angry at the world! He even wore a "Nobody Knows I'm A Lesbian" shirt.  But because women particularly made him angry he was a Narcissistic Sexist Male. I think that this event in one's life would break them, having lost so much hope to create a few humans to continue their family, their blood, their ways & that's why even multiple ways are now tolerated, as long as one finds that partner & creates those humans to continue their family cycle. I have sat up all night researching this & found this answer. Axl in his young years was simply a Narcissistic Male out of anger & teenagers thought that this was cool but it was only leading the teens in a bad direction, away from the Human production. Essentially the song says, if you are a human,  while you are young, find yourself a partner a produce your own unique family however you like.

  9. I voted Axl because he's the most musically openminded; his problem was that he produced & released too little material in a too lengthy period of time. Looking at Chinese Democracy, had he released just one more album up to now, he would've been a Rock God yet again. Oh well, music tastes change; GN'R were my music artist to worship for such a lengthy period of time in my life; now it's all New-Age, Ambient/Electronic, Worldbeat  & such music & my gods are Enigma :wub:

    Disagree. You could make a better argument that the one who wrote lyrics like these was the narcissist. “You like to hurt me, you know that you do.” - narcissists think everything someone might do is about them

    That, we will never know unless Axl or Slash was to officially address whatever the matter was about; we never did get a proper announcement & I doubt we ever will. So one can really look at it from both perspectives; whether it is against Narcissism or whether it is the Narcissist themselves telling the story.

  11. It's funny how all the responses to this song are so diverse; I'm guessing that this song really depends on how much one may relate to it personally. For some it has no meaning or element that they feel any relevance to; for others it seems to be a masterpiece, a gem to which they feel sincere coherence. What this genuinely seems to be singing about is opposition to Narcissism & anyone who has undergone the hostility of another person's Narcissism will easily comprehend & appreciate this song. All in all however, I think that it truly is a jewel with a lot of sentiment to it & definitely the better side of Axl's musical creativity.

    Having also grown up with a narcissistic mother, one of those lines threw me off of your thesis:

    "Its harder to live with the truth about you
    Than to live with the lies about me"

    A true narcissist will never introspect and find the fault within themself. So, finding the truth about oneself as a narcissist is very rare. Anyway, I hope you went full no-contact as I did. Being around somebody that is mentally ill will make (and keep) you mentally ill.

    Yeah, the quote you put from the song speaks about the trait "lack of responsibility - blaming and deflecting". Some Narcissists can be less extreme, depecting on how many traits they possess. But imagine a Narcissist to the extreme, possessing all 12 or so traits & using you as their supply any second possible. It is enough to drive you crazy, but I've made the conclusion that it is just must easier to completely eject my Narcissistic Mother from my hands & let Karma or something alike deal with her; surely "the eyes of truth" are watching one as that New-Age musician Enigma once said in their song by such name.

  13. While I have definitely changed musical tastes & am not much of a rocker anmymore, I have to give Sorry the credit that it receives. It is an amazing song against Narcissists & Narcissism. Having grown up under the authoritarian environment of a Narcissistic Mother who has all 12/12 traits: I have been subjected to all these:

    * Superiority & entitlement
    * Exaggerated need for attention & validation
    * Lack of responsibility - blaming & deflecting
    * Lack of boundaries
    * Lack of empathy
    * Emotional reasoning
    * Splitting
    * Fear
    * Anxiety
    * Shame
    * Inability to be truly vulnerable
    * Inability to communicate or work as part of a team

    The lyrics & the feel of Sorry truly do reveal & illustrate all these, with the slow, dark-bluesy feeling of the song & its emotional heaviness. Here is a performance from Sydney in 2010 that was nailed 100% perfectly. One can see me at 1:25 the guy with the bandana & longish hair banging his head:

    As for the Anti-Narcissistic lyrics:

    You like to hurt me you know that you do
    You like to think in some way that its me and not you
    You like to have me jump and be good, but I don't want to do it
    You don't know why I wont act the way you think I should
    You thought they'd make me, behave and submit

    What were you thinking, cause I don't forget

    You don't know why
    I wont give in
    To hell with the pressure
    I'm not caving in
    You know that I got under your skin
    You sold your soul but I wont let you win
    You talk to much
    You say I do
    Difference is know one cares about you

    You've got all the answers
    You know everything
    Well nobody asked you
    Its a mystery to me

    I'm sorry for you
    Not sorry for me (not sorry for me)
    You don't know who in the hell to or not to believe
    I'm sorry for you
    Not sorry for me (not sorry for me)

    You don't know who you can trust now
    But you should believe
    You should believe
    You close your eyes
    All well and good
    I'll kick your ass like I said that I would
    You tell them story's they'd rather believe
    Use and confuse them their numb and naive
    Truth is the truth hurts don't you agree
    Its harder to live with the truth about you
    Than to live with the lies about me

    Know body owes you
    Not one god damn thing
    You know where to put your
    Just shut up and say

    I'm sorry for you

    Not sorry for me (not sorry for me)

    You don't know who in the hell to or not to believe

    I'm sorry for you

    Not sorry for me (not sorry for me)

    You chose to hurt those that love you and wont set them free

  14. Do you think that when Axl & Slash get on that stage with up to 70,000 or more fans jumping about, screaming, worshipping them with the Devil's Horns, they feel like two invincible Rock Gods? Surely they do, no wonder they love touring so much. They are such characters & will in history be Rock N' Roll's two of the most charismatic musicians.

  15. So I was watching a London 2022 fan-shot performance of Estranged & in the comments somebody wrote that Axl has finally matured, for handling sound issues like a pro. I thought to myself "Axl's been mature for a long time now" & justified it with the fact that he's one of the unique rock musicians who is mature enough to employ songs to express his emotions, his most hurtful, most traumatising life experiences, to pour his very soul out to the fans he sings when performing live, without sinking down into head-banging, anger-filled screaming, profanities & self-destructive behaviour. Looking back, I can see that we have Queen to thank for giving Axl the spark for this sort of music & I must say, while I don't listen to Hard Rock like I did in my young years, Axl's ballad's are truly a wonder. It led me towards growing & maturing my music taste entirely when I grew older to New-Age, Celtic, Ambient-Electronic as it pours out so much emotion that it truly allows one to feel alive & expressing all their soulful, deep emotions. The fact that Axl can make songs that expressive too is amazing.

    Chinese Democracy was a good album, but not great. It's missing that killer GNR tune.  As I stated before, Axl should have released this as a solo artist.

    I agree! Just like Use Your Illusion's You Could Be Mine spoke for the whole album; it was basically sitting on the album's throne as the king over all the other tunes! Which were also decent, but just not as effective.

    I thought you were going to say you loved SCOM at first, but came to hate it because it was overplayed. SCOM is one of their most overplayed songs, ever. In fact, at one point, I thought SCOM was their ONLY hit song due to the overplay it got. Even today, SCOM is one of their most overplayed songs. It's still a very good song however.

    Looking at it logically, I can't argue with that. I guess there is just something about the song that I now dislike. But then we all change our music tastes; I loved hard rock & heavy metal especially for their angry songs because I myself was dealing with a lot of anger, but came to a point after sometime that I no longer wanted that emotion to rule my life & wanted to feel peace & serenity, so I turned to new-age, Celtic, ambient-electronic music: my favourite 2 being Enigma & Enya 🥰🥰🥰

  18. I was in my finishing years of High School & a fella introduced me to some hard rock & heavy metal music; being very energetic, hyperactive as well as full of anger due to my Narcissistic mother's abuse, I found that the music all resonated with my anger & rebellious attitude & I turned to it as a supportive vice. I found GN'R "You Could Be Mine" & fell in love with the song, remembering my childhood memories of it & took it all from there.
