The Stones covered all styles of Music on their records. They’ve had gospel, country, blues, rock, psychedelia, disco, baroque etc on their albums. Jagger tries to keep them relevant and Keith tries to keep them “The Stones”

People always reference the Beatles but I always thought Buddy Holly made one of the biggest jumps in music. He started with a guitar and ended with strings inside 2 years.

With apologies to Buddy, there isn't a much bigger leap than going from Love Me Do to Tomorrow Never Knows and Strawberry Fields. That's a quantum leap. and all without missing a beat.

I find it funny when people talk nonsense about GNR becoming irrelevant if they didn't evolve.

I guess the likes of ACDC don't sell stadiums?

Good point. Not everyone can--or has to--be the Beatles. The Rolling Stones comes to mind as well. There was a little progression there, but not much, and it certainly didn't hurt them. Hell... the Stones were the biggest (literally) draw last year, even outselling Harry Fuckin' Styles lol.

  3. Yes, because even though less people would have cared, it would have been a hell of a lot less pressure on him and we probably would've gotten the album sooner. Also, people wouldn't have judged the album against GNR's prior catalog, meaning it would have likely gotten the respect it deserved.

well, id like to think that Hetfield has grown since 1991 to not hold those thoughts anymore. I'd imagine it has to do with his apparantly sheltered upbringing, but still no excuse for the alleged statement

    Also, TikTokers are cancer

The problem I have with it, is how everything is conveniently painted with broad strokes. Take the word racism, for instance. Everyone calls everyone and everything racist, when in fact, a true racist and true racism is extraordinarily rare, because it is the belief that a particular race is inherently less, no matter what. That a person is born into a lesser race, and there is nothing they can do to change that. Most people don't feel that way. Even people who hate black people don't usually feel that way. You have to get into skin head and Nazi territory before you start to see that sort of thing. So most people fall into lesser categories like bigotry and biases. But even bigotry is rare, compared to biases. Most people that are labeled racist, are really just biased against said race for a plethora of reasons. Growing up, I met tons of parents who held racial biases. Some of their kids, as well. Yet most of their stories were different. They all had their reasons for not liking black people, or Mexican people or whatever. But none of them ever said anything even close to falling into actual racism. So that's my issue with it.

As far as James and Axl goes, both would fall into the bias category imo. Axl gave his reasons when he was young, which were all based on having had bad experiences with certain minorities. They have a slew of unfortunate things happen to them, then they understandably form a dislike for a group of people because they're either too naive to know better, or they're just too exhausted by it all to give a shit. In Axl's case, it was the former.

But when it comes down to it, it's mostly all a bunch of bullshit. The people calling other people out online aren't doing it for morally sound reasons. Most of them are (in my opinion) suffering from some sort of behavioral or mood disorder, and ganging up on successful people as a way to make themselves feel better. The internet has given these types way too much control, and it's high time companies and people like us take it back.

  5. I think at some point not long before he talked to Slash again, Axl got on (and stayed on) medication and finally took his mental health seriously. I don't think you're going to see a guy go from birth to his 40's acting one way, and then poof... presto-chango into Mr. Fuckin' Rogers. Too coincidental to be believed. Axl got serious about his life, and took charge. Good for him.

  6. I want an official release of ALL the home videos and behind the scenes stuff that the band filmed during the whole Illusions tour. Documentary style, with interviews, all the story lines... everything. If they have official, select tracks that were professionally recorded live, throw those in as well to spice it up but it's unnecessary. And on the bonus disc, the entire Paris show in all it's unedited glory. If they released something like that, I'd pretty much pay whatever they were asking.

I think some of the pictures from Rock in Rio had widely circulated and that's how it started (although he wasn't fat, he looked chubbier - especially in one picture where he was shirtless - than how people remembered him). And then it stuck, and the oversized clothes - as well as his overall appearance - in 2002 didn't help despite him being slimmer than in RIR.

If he hadn't been as skinny as a rail during 80's and early 90's and then disappeared for almost ten years, people wouldn't have said Axl was fat when he played Rio3. It was only in comparison to his prime (basically anorexic looking) that he seemed so big.

He was in a band called The Prodigal Sons and Del James' roommate, probably part of the Hell House clique.

EDIT: Del James mentions him here:

DJ: I was living in an apartment with one of the scene's biggest dealers, and no it's not Izzy Stradlin. If Izzy was running low, he would come by and cop. Me and Billy McCloud from the Prodigal Sons lived there with this other dude who shall remain nameless and that place got so out of control that my friends forcibly evicted me and moved me into Hell House, okay? Fucking high is an understatement.

Some more information from his sister:

Thank you! Amazing that I'm still learning things about that era.

Glad I didn't get ticks for the upcoming Oz tour...

I'll stick to my memories of 07..

    Axl braids/rasp

Mr finck rocking the guitar/actually caring

    Pitman waving a towel...

    Ahhh memories... ;)

Replace 07 with 92, braids with blue bandana, rasp with even more rasp, Mr. Finck with Prime Slash and Pitman with no Pitman... and I agree with you 100%.

Actually there is more evidence he does prepare and takes care of his voice if you read back through past comments from Axl.

The fact that his BMI is so high tells you that he's clearly not doing everything in his power to give the best show possible like he claims. If he was, he'd be lean and mean and able to run around the stage still (maybe not like he use to, but you get the point). Also, Axl was smoking cigars and drinking as recently as the early 10's... and those two things can and will cause permanent damage to the vocal chords.

  11. He should get as healthy as possible. Lose all the excess weight. Hire a trainer (jogging daily like his life depends on it) and a 24/7 nutritionist to prepare all his food. Stop smoking/drinking if he is. Seek professional medical help for his vocal chords and if possible, get surgery on them, then hire a renowned vocal coach to prevent further damage. If that means mickey... then so be it.

And if all that fails... retire.
