  1. Scored 3rd row center seats for the Boston show on presale so really pumped for this concert

They didn't make it easy to find the presale codes before the presale and Slash online did not send them out until 17 minutes into the presale so most of the affordable front center section seats were long gone. A bit of a cluster.

Hope everyone who wanted got tix and see you there!

  2. 10.23.87 - The Ritz, New York, NY- epic performance and the band was tight

10.29.87 - L'Amour, Brooklyn, NY- band had a lot of energy but was a bit sloppy. Still a great early show

08.24.88 - Great Woods, Mansfield, MA- crappy lawn seats, short serlist and Axl's voice was shot but the band played well

8.25.88 - Great Woods, Mansfield, MA

03.06.93 - New Haven Coliseum, New Haven, CT- Band was over a hour late but put on a good show

12.02.02 - FleetCenter, Boston, MA- not Guns for me but entertaining concert. Interesting to hear Bucket and Robin play the old songs.

Was supposed to see them at 09.28.91 - Lake Compounce Amphitheatre, Bristol, CT. But it was cacelled as the locals were afraid of a riot

  4. Am I the only one that finds it sad Guns fans are reduced to getting worked up over the thought of the release of a mediocre 30 year   old out take song that was not good enough for the original album? It is amazing Axl  can't even record and release one new song for this anniversary box set as you know Slash and Duff would be up for it.......

It is a shame they didn't work with Marc Canter to at least include his audio/video recordings  in this box set as he stated here he would love to do this for us fans someday.........now that would be a box set I would shell out good money for.......

putin can hardly be described as a radical though. he's as conservative as they come.

my original point was in reference to terrorists, which are radicals by nature. terrorism is of all times and it's always based on radicalism. but radicals, by nature, are the exception and thus do not have a backing by the masses. hence the need for terror. but the revolution eats their own children, and so radicalism erodes from within and disappears as time goes by.

a dictatorship does not necessarily equal radicalism though. some of the biggest dictators werent radicals. napoleon was one of the biggest dictators history has known, but he was actually fighting against the radicals, and a bit of a conservative twat really

    fair enough mate

    this was a thing apparently

cringeworthy does not begin to describe it. Ian is a great singer, but suffering a bit from the "DJ Ashba" syndrome I guess.

Sorta like Queen touring with Paul Rodgers and that  TV talent show winner recently...but I will tell you it is not as bad as when I saw Robbie Kriegers band this past year  at  small Inn here in Massachusetts.

He  played all Doors songs and had a young guy singing for him who was absolutely terrible. I had no idea who the singer was but turned to my buddy and said he must be related to Krieger  somehow and sure enough it turns out it was his son...we all had a good laugh............

china has gone through a process of "democratisation" for quite some years now.

North Korea goes through economical hell, and as a consequence, kim yong un tries to mend ties with the rest of the world. the absolute unthinkable is happening.

Cuba, is also removing most of the more radical elements of "castrocism".

Name me one extreme regime, a radical regime, that relies on force and violence to survive, that has stood the test of time. They all have to face the biggest force in society: the masses. And they all lose. It's like King Canute trying to hold back the waves. Or like when King louis XVI, at the start of the french revolution, saw the masses, and he remarked "c'est une revolte", to which la rochefoucauld-liancourt replied "mais non, sire, c'est une revolution".

China is far from a Democracy and still relies on force to maintain their power. Their "President" Xi Jinping  basically mde himself ruler for life.  I think you are confusing the  introduction of capitalism with Democracy....

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/democracy-post/wp/2017/04/11/why-does-china-pretend-to-be-a-democracy/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.63f3084b9df9

We will see what comes out of the N Korea/S Korea talks but there is no stipulation or mention of civil rights being a issue in negotiations. Cuba is still a totalitarian regime who controls their citizens so while there have been changes in China and Cuba  still rely on repression to keep their leaders in power.......and what is you definition of test of time? 10 years, 50 years, 100 years??

Other examples are Libya and Iraq...if not for Western intervention they would still be radical regimes.......

  8. I love Slash but when it comes to crushing rock riffs no one can touch Iommi IMHO..........This man has been generating epic metal riffs for almost 50 years now... and he would always throw in a short solo in the middle of most songs....one of the most underrated guitar players in Rock I think s people just remember the riffs.............although I am surprised nobody mentioned Angus Young as AC/DC catalog is one long riff.......

I love Keef but never really thought of him as a riff master as I believe his guitar parts are more complex and bluesy then simple repetitive riffs although he wrote some brilliant ones...........and as far as Chuck Berry is concerned he is one of the Godfathers of RnR but I find most of the riffs in his songs are just variations of the same riff just modified slightly but I am open to one of you lads educating me to the contrary.........:)

Not his greatest by any means but I always loved this song cranked through a good set of speakers.......

More on "the revolution eventually eats their own children".

I remember, during the height of terrorist activity on western soil, people were confused and asking for "solutions". I remember saying then, on this board, that we should do nothing at all. Because "the revolution eats their own children". Extreme people, while vocal, are the minority by their very nature. To put it bluntly: when every terrorist blows himself up, there arent any left.

I was honed away back then, but look now: terrorist attacks has decreased dramatically in frequency. All these jihadi's you remember from cruel execution videos? Most of them are dead. Either blown up themselves or bombarded by the western armies.

the same with the extremist regimes of the second world war. Stalin, Hitler... Where are they? Gone. Hitler committed suicide, and nazism as a leading party vanished. Stalinism died with stalin. The french revolution: where are the radicals? Died on the french guillotines.

Extreme regimes don't last. They are not the right answer. Eventually, people will react and reclaim their freedoms. Eventually, the revolution will eat their own children.

How do you explain China, M Korea, Cuba, etc etc...then? People have yet to reclaim their freedoms.

    What are they waiting for?

  10. Sure the sum is > then the individual parts with the Stones as they all contribute to the musical stew in their own unique ways. Charlie actually locks into and follows Keef's lead and is always just slightly behind the pace which helps to make the sound unique and as mentioned Keef used unique tunings and only has 5 strings on his Macawber Tele....all the little nuances make it a challenge  for others to cover their songs properly...but I do get what you are saying.....

    Very much so.

The Stones are almost impossible to cover well.

The Stones are almost impossible to cover well.

The reason why many Stones songs are tough to cover is the odd tunings Keef used..........

  12. Just to clarify what I posted earlier...........He is out on bail and his sentencing hearing has not been scheduled yet so he could still end up in prison but I will believe it when I see it...........

  13. JMO but Cosby feel no remorse about what he did as he is an arrogant SOB....the man is 80 yrs old and if I was a betting man he will never serve a day in a real jail as the judge is letting him do house arrest with a GPS bracelet........it is sad how the rich get off easy  with crimes in this country due to their wealth...........

  14. IMO, but positive thinking is just a bandaid to cover the reason for the complaining instead of addressing the problem.......I see this everyday at work.....instead of positive thinking I believe you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and try to fix the problem that you are complaining about.....but I do feel a little venting before hand to let off steam is healthy.....

When you got an instrument to concentrate on and you’re known for improvising you can pull something off, fuck, even then it must be hard, I write a bit and tried to write once tripping on acid, I couldnt form letters on the page   But singing is a whole different kettle of fish, at least with the instrument you have some kind of muscle memory thing going on.  For a singer its just kinda you and a mic stand.  You can kinda direct an acid high to some minor degree if you have something to concentrate on but to go out like Jim usually did and stand there, fuck, I’d be hiding behind an amp.

And I guess you’re right about the lucid thing, I mean a happening is only really happening if you’re there to see it happening eh?

Just imagine Hendrix playing and singing tripping his tits off............

I wrote some pretty interesting letters to my high school buddy in college while  tripping that he let me read when I'd come home on break but I mostly just laughed at anything people said so can't imagine playing guitar in that state.....

Quite frankly the shows are equally entertaining even when hes not sober   People think he was this drunken mess fumbling through shows like he was afflicted by something but quite frankly there was something quite deliberate about it, he WANTED to create a happening.  He wasn’t even drunk a lot of the time he was on acid, now no one has an acid addiction, you dont accidentally take acid on a regular basis and go onstage, he was a cunt and he was doing it on purpose, rather like Iggy in that regard, or Iggy was like him to be more accurate, he was purposely creating these sorts of scenes, sort of like certain confrontational punk stuff.

All i can say the lad must’ve had balls like a fucking stallion to go out onstage on acid.  He didnt even do it in the clever way of dropping acid right before going out so by the end of an hour or so long show it would just be hitting you, he’d actually go out whilst peaking, its really quite incredible how he held it together even as much as he did.

Someone on here hooked me up with like...links to most of the live recordings they ever done, this was years ago, they were fuckin brilliant, they were all released werent they?  Or a great deal of them were.  I’m not a big one for listening to a lot of live recordings of one band, i find it quite repetitive but these were fantastic.

I think Jim was always interesting but for me the better shows were the ones where he was more lucid.........Jim was not the only artist to drop acid before going one stage the Dead made a career out it, Hendrix used to dose before going on stage and  Carlos Santana was tripping his brains out at Woodstock but in his case it was not planned as they had to go on early......

  17. Great interview with RP..............the man looks comfortable in his own skin these days.....I think he was genuinely complimentary of  GVF and got a kick out of the singer sounding like him from back in the day......

  18. I have most of the live Door  shows they released on Midnight records and highly recommend “Live in New York” Felt Forum 6CD January 17, 18, 1970 box set if you can find it and also “Live in Detroit” Cobo Arena May 8th, 1970 which has a killer version of  “The End”.  Jim seems to be sober and puts on great performances for those shows.  And of course the two 1969 Live at the Aquarius Theater shows and  most recent reconstructed Hollywood Bowl show are must have for Doors fans.

JMO but I would avoid the official Matrix CD as it is from high Gen tapes. There are much better bootlegs of the shows out there and it is really interesting to hear a well recorded concert by the early Doors.

  19. Interesting stats from Nick Cafardo's Boston Globe Sunday Baseball notes regarding  Giancarlo Stanton's slow start:

    Quote

From the Bill Chuck files —

“In 2018 Giancarlo Stanton’s first 52 Yankee PAs, he hit three homers and struck out 22 times.

In 2016, in his first 14 games, he hit .208 with three homers, 10 RBIs, and 21 strikeouts in 53 at-bats.

In 2017, in his first 14 games, he hit .226 with 3 HRs and 8 RBIs with 19 strikeouts in 53 at-bats.” .

So nothing to get worried about yet as  he is historically a slow starter............

Other fun fact from the same Globe column

    Quote

Also, “Keep in mind that Marlins president and CEO Derek Jeter never played on a team with more than 73 losses, the 2014 Yankees.”

JMO, but I think the Globe has the best Sunday Sports section I have ever read but I welcome suggestions from others here of great Sunday sports sections they read..........
