King Crimson Larks Tongue in Aspic................here is a live cut of the title track part two...........love how the song ebbs and flows, rises and falls and eventually builds to a climax...
Here is part one when percussionist extraordinaire Jamie Muir, wearing the fur skin beating on the pots and pans, was still in the band. He left the band in 1973 and entered a Tibetan monastery in Scotland

I cooked a stew and stirred it with one of those rubber icing spatula things and have just realised the corner broke off in the pot. Am I going to get sick and die?
Nah, just like a kid who swallows a penny it will all come out in the end...........

Saw Gun twice in 1987, at the Ritz and L'AMour NYC, and again on the Illusions tours so saw them at their height and had little desire to see almost-Guns on this this recent tour especially with Axl's vocal struggles and the fat prices of tickets for decent seats in huge soulless venues....
I got to see Slash with Myles a number of times on past tours and would go out of my way to get tickets for those shows as they had great mixed set lists which spanned Slash's career, SLash had an awesome band and I personally like Myles vocals.....also like that Slash played small clubs and theaters so it was more intimate and the ticket prices were less than $50 for a great show..I would take a live show with Slash and Myles any day over almost-Guns so hope they do tour again.........
Now as far as new music it is a little tougher to choose...I love Slash's solo albums but would love to hear what he Axl and Duff could come up with for a new album and really hope that Izzy would somehow be part of the writing.....I think Axl's vocals would be much better accommodated in the studio where he could do multiple takes and tailor them to the new music then struggling to sing the classics live.....
I love AC/DC so would be curious to see what Axl could do on new Music with Angus as well........

Just got an audio bootleg of the famous 1969 Beatles Apple rooftop concert and have to say it is amazing to see them play together after not doing live shows for so long...just incredible how good they sounded......Man really wished they had done a tour and played the songs from the last 5 albums in concert.........

Just got tickets today to see Govt Mule, Avett Brothers with special guests Magpie Salute at the XFinity Center in Mansfield in July........It is an amphitheater shed and all the under cover seats sold out in less than an hour but I managed to get decent seats.........
Govt Mule will perform Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as the featured set in between sets of their songs.........Here is a taste from when they did it in Boston
Also amped to see Magpie Salut again as they were fantastic last time I saw them...
Warren Haynes usually brings out the support acts for a jam at the end of the Mule set so would be great to see Rich Robinson and Marc Ford jamming with the Mule.......
Blackberry Smoke playing the HOB here in Boston so may try to go see them if schedules permit..........they put on a great show as well......

i like books. i'm a major book nerd. i love piles and piles of the things, and i prefer for gasoline and lighters to keep their distance. so put that in your pipes.
i feel like i need to bring mygnrforum some culture. bunch of barbarians around here. I'm gonna teach you all the wonder of books, not just by reading them, but by seeing them on your shelves, feel them, smell the whisdom and old years as you turn the pages.
(i spelled whisdom wrong, did I?)
I love real books as well and have a ton of them.........nothing like getting a new book, relaxing, and cracking it for the first time...I tried kindle but never could get into reading on a tablet...reminded me too much of work...........

Still on my Stones jag so going to work my way through my vinyl starting where it all began with Album #1.......
Early 70's mono boxed red label British pressing which sounds excellent...would love to have an original first release mono unboxed red label British pressing but those in VG condition go for hundreds of $$$..
You can really appreciate how the band evolved on the Brian Jones era albums as they released them.........

Buffalo Wings have become a ritual here in the U.S. during NFL football season for all us armchair QB's so I cook them often and I have a slight twist on the cooking.
I love deep fried traditional Buffalo wings but this can be impractical, and messy, at home and adds more fat and calories to an already fatty chicken part so I cook them on my gas grille.
I start by coating the wings in an excellent store bought wing sauce called "Wing It" we can get locally on the East Coast which is a traditional style wing sauce but I like it as it does not contain any added sugar but you can make your own sauce from a recipe off the internet.
I precook in the oven at 400F for 30 minutes. Once out of the oven I redip the wings again in sauce and preheat the grille after which I set the burners on medium heat.
I put the wings on the grille and cook for 5 minutes per side flipping them until they have a nice brown grille coloring. I usually cook then 2 times at 5 minutes each side for a total of 20 minutes on the grille since they were precooked in the oven.
I also baste them in Wing sauce mixed with the chicken fat infused Wing It drippings from the oven cooking every time I turn them. The nice things about wings is they are very hard to overcook and as long as you baste them while cooking they will not dry out. Also do not have the grille on too high, too hot, a setting or you can burn the skin as the wings will brown nicely on a medium setting.
Once cooked I cut the wings up for easier eating and toss the tips as there is really no meat on them. Here is the finished wings I grilled last night before I cut them up.
I will say that it is time consuming to cook wings this way between the prep, precooking, grilling and cutting up the cooked wings it takes a good 1 1/2 hours but IMHO opnion it is worth the effort as they taste great!
One cooking tip I learned the hard way is you should start the wings on the grille inside wings facing down as this will grease up and season the grille so when you flip them they will not stick and pull the skin off as much. You can also baste the grill with cooking oil to help prevent sticking.
Bon Apettit!

I'd argue the reverse. I'd argue that the chaos is precisely what made that album so good.
Yeah you are probably right the chaos was the secret sauce...Maybe I should have said it was a miracle it got done....

Always seemed kinda well ordered to me, like a kind of a recording retreat, drugs and partying upstairs and music making downstairs, you wanna see chaos, check out how The Happy Mondays made their album in Barbados
One thing about The Stones is they were very professional, knew when it was time to work, otherwise they wouldn’t’ve lasted so long, they were almost Stalinist about it, they dropped friends, birds, everything when it was time to put work in.
I don't know Lenny if you read Greenfields "Exile on Main Street" book on the goings on at Nellcote it wasn't well ordered at all. Keith would disappear and they would find him passed out upstairs with a spike hanging out of his arm and that would be the end of music for the day.....They got it done but it was not planned out by any means if you believe Greenfield who was actually there.

"Exile on Main Street" Rolling Stones first British pressing vinyl....................considering the chaos at Nellcote during the recording of this album it is a miracle how good it is...........

Before he went radio silent after the reunion happened Marc mentioned he wants to do a box set for us fans with his audio and video recordings at some point when the timing is right so hopefully now that Axl and Slash have reconciled it will happen.......I hope Marc and Axl also reconciled as Marc is one of the few who never took sides........

I am a obsessive compulsive collector so I have a ton of music and sports memorabilia, including concert posters, ticket stubs, programs, magazines etc...............also have thousands of CD's, 500+LP's and I am a book hound so there are books everywhere.....We have a big house so space is not an issue but I keep saying I have to start selling some of my collection on ebay, as I am sure I can sell most of it and make some $$$, but just need the motivation..........

I have the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" Volume 1 album on original vinyl and really get into the music on it.
Also have a 5CD set which adds volume 2 & 3 with John Denver and Johnny Cash contributing which while not a good as the orginal IMHO still has some good music on it
Sorry if this has been discussed, as I have not read all 110 pages of this thread, but how does bluegrass fit into the country genre? While I like the old country music masters, like H. Williams, I really enjoy bluegrass and have attended some festivals when I was younger.

I'm a Gram Parsons fan. He's kind of folky isn't he? A lot of his stuff reminds me of like, hardcore traditional Americana country, like John Denver or something. I like him though. I wouldn't put him up there with cats like Hank Sr. or Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings, but he's good. Another one that died too soon. About the mainstream thing, country fans don't really care about that. We actually don't mind that we have our own little thing tucked back in the woods, couldn't care less if the mainstream likes it. Nashville cares, they want their superstars out there. But for true county fans you can keep the mainstream.
I like Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Wouldn't call it great country, but it's a good attempt I think. The story behind the making/production/end of the Parsons Byrds era is an interesting story, you should read up on that if you haven't already. I like the Burritos too. Like with the Byrds, I wouldn't call it great, groundbreaking county, but it's a good genuine attempt.
That's the difference to me between that stuff and The Stones' country stuff. Those were all genuine attempts at making real country music. Stones don't feel genuine. The actual music is good enough, I can dig the music. Mick kills it for me. His voice on those songs. Sounds like mockery and ridicule and more of a dig than anything. Most country fans I know feel the same way. Even Len agrees with me, we've had this discussion before, and he's a big time Stones fan.
I didn't read that link, Paisley is your typical Nashville pop star. I'm sure he calls The Stones a huge influence and kisses Mick's ass. And I'm not downing The Stones, I love them. And all country fans I know love them, the rock stuff anyway. But nobody really listens to the country songs. Mick just sounds so not genuine and fake, like he's singing those songs with a sly grin, taking the piss at country as some of our English friends would say.
Thanks for responding as I am not a big country fan so enjoy reading posts from someone who is to help me understand the culture. Also interesting to me is the divide between the hardcore old time Hank Williams country fan and the Nashville pop nucountry fans.....Seems to me a lot of the stuff being posted here is more related to nuCountry than the classic country?
Again from what I have read Gram Parsons is being credited with creating a more accessible style of country music which brought it to a more rock oriented audience so was curious how classic country fans viewed this opinion and his music which I rather like.
I also don't disagree Mick is taking a piss in some of the Stones country songs but personally I focus more on the playing, which I think is excellent, as from what I read Keef really liked traditional country and Gram was a big influence on their early attempts.
I am not trying to defend the Stones country songs, which I happen to like, It is interesting to me to get a country fans perspective on rock bands attempting country...
So in your opinion are there any rock bands who have done decent country songs?

When I read the thread title I thought you were saying "sorry" for starting a Stryper thread...............

Just personally speaking I can't stand any of the Stones country stuff. I don't know many real country fans that do actually. Now they love The Stones, you put on Satisfaction or Paint it Black or Gimme Shelter, and they'll be yelling turn it up. But put on Far Away Eyes or Dead Flowers or one of those and you won't get much reaction at all. I would be hitting the skip button.
In terms of modern Nashville radio music, yeah, a bunch of stuff kicks the hell out of that but the non CMT stuff that's came out recently, a bunch in this thread, Hank III, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, they're the real deal. It's kinda like rock music these days, you might have to look for it but there's some great stuff out there.
Interesting since the some of the Stones better known country songs seemed to be partly an influence of Gram Parson friendship with Keef.
How do country fans view Gram Parson and his influence on the genre? I have read he gets credit by some for helping to make country music more mainstream.
Do you consider his work with the Byrds (Sweetheart of the Rodeo), his work with the Burritos (Gilded Place of Sins) and his solo stuff (GP and Grievous Angel) to be country music? and if so where does it fit into the country music history?
Interesting comment by Brad Paisley on the Stones country music
