  1. I cannot honestly you are totally incorrect on some of this...

    In short:

    Slash = minor pentatonic scale

    Buckethead = minor harmonic scale

    Ron/DJ = who cares?

bax I agree with what you just wrote but seriously a guitar discussion goes nowhere in here and this is about THE SECRET GIGS.

Please stay on topic everyone! THANK YOU!

  2. Just a reminder:

Here's a review from one of the secret gigs:

    Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/feb/15/guns-n-roses-surprise-gig

Guns N' Roses play surprise gig to half-empty club

For their first performance since the release of Chinese Democracy, Axl Rose and his crew managed to clear out a New York fashion boutique that was formerly CBGBs.

The world died a little on Friday, as Guns N' Roses played to the half-empty fashion boutique that was once CBGBs. Axl Rose's surprise set at New York's John Varvatos store lacked Slash, Duff McKagan and, as Rose strutted amid £100 belts, probably lacked the spirit of rock'n'roll as well. The concert was part of an afterpary for L'Uomo Vogue, scheduled as part of New York fashion week. Indie rockers Alberta Cross were advertised on the posters but Guns N' Roses were the secret headliners, marking the band's first American performance since the release of Chinese Democracy in 2008.

Celebrities such as Kevin Bacon, Sean Lennon, Sebastian Bach and model Rachel Hunter packed into Varvatos's shop, built inside the desiccated husk of legendary punk venue CBGBs. They waited hours for Guns N' Roses' touring lineup to take the stage: Axl Rose, DH Ashba, Ron Thal, Richard Fortus, Tommy Stinson, Dizzy Reed, Chris Pitman and Frank Ferrer.

On the bright side, this feeble incarnation of Guns N' Roses played only four tunes from Chinese Democracy. Much of the [17-song acoustic set came from 1987's Appetite for Destruction, including hits like Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine. Nevertheless, as the gig wore down around 3am, the boutique was reportedly half-empty. "This was the best fucking show of our tour!" Rose told the crowd. The socialites and fashion icons doubtless cheered. Fans in Taiwan, South Korea and Canada, who spent hundreds to see the band during their last tour, were probably less enthused.

  3. They cover "Live And Let Die" that was a Bond song and sounds great. Now with Richard ripping through the Bond theme and Guns having songs like If The World, TWAT and Prostitute they might as well do an actual soundtrack work for that franchise. I think they'd be the only band to ever put a cherry on top of what Chris Cornell did. By Bond-style I mean the certain dark drama atmosphere and those minor chord progressions, kinda hard to explain but it's obvious when you hear these songs.

Would you buy CD again if it had a bonus track that sounds like LALD, If The World, TWAT and Prostitute?

Would you go and see the movie if it had a new Guns song?

  4. Buckethead has not written anything that anyone past his small group of fans will ever remember. He lacks soul. It is his work that is all over CD and that is exactly why it is a 4 star rather than a 5 star album.

What do you think about the review I posted?

  5. anything too keep you off the streets,do you have anymore lame threats,is that the best you can do?

If you don't like my language don't fucking read it but don't tell me to shut up or censor myself just because my choice of words doesn't fit with the narrow mindset of the majority.

What do you have to say about the review that you quoted?

  6. Buckethead did considerable damage to the GnR reputation. He had the cringe factor not the cool factor. The man may be a great technical guitarist but he is far from cool. In fact he is a freak. Also, nobody outside a small contingent of people know who Buckethead is.

Buckethead is god and one day even you will see the light.

Ron is a boring theorist, Richard is underemployed and probably beyond caring and DJ is just plain generic.

Compare "Life Is Beautiful" to "Better" and you will see what Guns have lost with Robin Finck.

  7. Look at the positives, there is a break between the Canadian and SAmerican legs of the tour, Axl could quite easily have sat on his ass for that time doing nothing, by doing these "secret" gigs he is, if nothing else, keeping himself busy, keeping his voice in shape, getting the band to bond a little bit more, thus improving their chemistry/dynamic for when the next hit the stage, the full size one that is.

Breaks should be used to call Buckethead, bring flowers and chocolate to his door, begging him to come back and make this a credible rock band again.

If Guns wanna play for celebrity people and their hangarounds great but then PLEASE don't call it a concert so the invited press reports about exclusive acoustic sets that the paying, travelling and waiting FANS OUTSIDE are missing.

  8. They should play Rock am Ring, it's their anniversary and the lineup is not bad so far...Muse, RATM, Rammstein, Kiss, Them Crooked Vultures....Guns sure would fit in there and I think they did pretty good there in 2006.

Rock am Ring has already announced the four Headliners (RATM / MUSE / RAMMSTEIN / KISS). Unless there's a Late Night Spot/Special for GNR, which is pretty unlikely imo, I don't see them playing there.

Rammstein opening for Kiss or Muse opening for Guns, problem solved.

Except for the stupid remark about Slash and the old guys, this review is probably as spot on as my posts.

But I guess some dumbfucks here just wear blinders and wouldn't feel a cock up their ass if it came right up their fucking throat to cum in their brainless head.

  10. They should play Rock am Ring, it's their anniversary and the lineup is not bad so far...Muse, RATM, Rammstein, Kiss, Them Crooked Vultures....Guns sure would fit in there and I think they did pretty good there in 2006.

  11. I know its not about this, but one day I was listening and thought of the story of Judas betraying Jesus

"I told you when i found you, if there were doubts you should be careful, but unafraid"

"I wont ask of you, what I would not do"

"Up and away is what ive gotta do"

    etc etc

But i'd say not selling out is the main point

i was thinking about such similarities too...some lines sound as they could have been taken or at least inspired from the bible.

  12. To the OP.....you're fucking stupid. If you have nothing positive to say then just shut up. Your mother should have thought you this growing up.

Practise what you preach and read the fucking thread before you jump at me.

  13. What is your view on this great song and the lyrics?

I think it's the best song on CD and I love the James Bond atmosphere that it has to it.

However, I have no idea what the lyrics really mean. Not to read too much into them but is this about selling out or not selling out? Is it about staying true to yourself or giving up and letting go, like in love or life and all? The line "forgive what you have for what you might lose" is killing me every time. I think it could be the song with the deepest meaning along with "Catcher In The Rye".

I also love how the ending is an actual end chord musically and for the album with those three notes coming on and off in waves. The ending is quite intense, taking out the CD after this song feels like coming home from a funeral, I want be left alone for at least an hour but then again I would love to hear a full album with stuff like that so maybe I'm a masochist? LOL...

    The song is great!

  14. To the casual fans and general music buyers Bucket was nothing more than a freakshow!

Are casual fans and general music buyers the target audience for this album, like picking up a copy of CD from BestBuy and listen to Prostitute while driving to work and cleaning the house?

  15. The reason CD flopped is perception and predjudice. People don't or won't give the album a chance because of those two factors.

The reasons the album flopped are the stupid Best Buy deal and the departure of the lead guitar player and co-songwriter.

Had they done one TV show with Buckethead and sold the album on Amazon the next day it would have wiped each and everything away out there.

  16. If GNR had a fanclub like other bands who did private shows for fan club members, that would be pretty cool. I do understand your frustration though. I don't think that these particular surprise shows are a bad idea at all. The band is out and having fun. Nothing wrong with that. You just want shows like this to be fan based which is something a fan club or contest would do am I right?

Yes. I know you can't please everyone, but I don't think it's OK to let [not dropping names] select an audience. If you are a fan, willing to pay and ready to have good time in concert you should be given at least a chance for attendance or else just call it a private party and not act as if you are playing a "concert" for your fans. A contest would be cool, like giving a golden ticket to the best fanmade cover, the best fanmade remix or just pull a Willy Wonka and re-issue CD with 5 backstage passes to push sales and make some fans happy...you get the idea.
