  1. I don't know where to start but I will try to be clear.

First, this is not a law yet. It still has to be passed by the Parliament. it will probably suffer some modifications in between and, if the Popular Party (the right wing) gives a conscience vote to its members in the Congress and the Senate, it has some chances to never be passed. Some relevant members of the party in charge have already said they don't agree with this bill, and many of their voters. And on the other hand, when the current law was passed, several members of the socialist party (the party in charge at that time)) were against it. One of the main controversies when the current law was passed was the fact that allowed girls under 18 and above 16 to have an abortion without the knowledge of their parents (which I think it was stupid and crazy).

Abortion is one of the most delicates issues anyone can try to approach and I still don't know how some people can have a so solid opinion about it (either pro or against it), without any single doubt or "double thought". Kudos for you people but I can't be so sure about my own opinion. I really think it should be legal, as it was until now (leagal until week 14), but I also think a law of cases (rape, mental health, socioeconomic factors, and/or fetal defects) has its logic (and I could be ok with it). Actually, in Spain, there were more abortions under the old law than under the current one, because the mental health of the mother allowed it to be relatively "easy". (Btw, when people say women in Spain will have to fly to London like in the 70s", well, the UK has a law of cases too.)

I hate though when people use arguments such as "it's just a bunch of cells", "or it's the mother choice because it's her body". Well, yes, it's a bunch of cells, like when you exfoliate to remove dead cells. The difference is that, those cells won't grow arms and legs if you let them in there. Also, free abortion until week 14... google how a foetus look on week 14. Plus, a foeturs starts to develope arms, organs, eyes, etc. much before that week.

The "it's the mother's choice because it's her body". Fair enough, of course it's her body, and I truly believe it should be her ultimate decision. But we are not talking about a tattoo or a piercing. We are talking about a possible future independent human being, when has this future life has to start to be protected? Law protects the unborn since almost the conception in many ways. it's not the same crime to kick a woman in the belly and cause her some minor injuries that kicking a pregnant woman resulting in miscarriage. That's because it's more than a few cells. Also, for inheritances, the unborn is taken into account, etc. Also, if it's the mother's body, then she should be able to do whatever she wants until the baby is born, why should we punish her if she decides to end the pregnancy after week 14? Why wekk 14 and not week 14 and a half?

Seriously, i'm totally ok with being pro choice unless you rub these 2 arguments into my face.

I've also read somewhere in this thread someone defending abortion over adoption because a full pregnancy has many risks and also that a birth has stronger emotional ties. Abortion has many risks too, from infertility to serious infections. And let's not forget the psychological effect. Adoption and the emotional ties with the baby are very very hard for the woman, but for most women, abortion carry a huge emotional pain too.

So, my conclusion, I have no idea. If this law is finally passed, for me, fetal defects should be among the allowed cases. But, after all, this is a very personal issue, depending on everyone's values, feelings, ideas, etc. so a law that made it legal until certain week would leave the final choice to the woman/couple, so it would go better with my idea of the State not acting like a babysitter with its subjects. The only thing I have totally clear is that, all abortion laws should protect the woman and make it as easy as possible for her: counselling (she should have very clear all her options and possibilities), psychological assistance, good hospital assitence, etc.

  2. Gibralter is so absurd. Even the Argies have a better case with the Falklands than what the spanish do with the rock of Gibralter. Clue to the Spanish: do not cede (perpetually) something to someone else in a treaty and expect at, some date, to get it back. I do not believe the Treaty of Utrecht contained a recipt haha.

The isthmus was never ceded to anyone but it's occupied by an airport and whatnot. The Treaty is clear. AAnd without the isthmus, Gibraltar would really be just only monkeys. Also, under what conditions was the Treaty made? And, finally, UN resoultions and Interantional Law say you're wrong.

    Anyway, meh Gibraltar. All yours.

The problems lately are due to certain practises carried out by the Gibraltar government like throwing concrete blocks to the sea or floating fuel stations that damage or are a big danger for the Spanish fishing or the environment in general. But if you read the british newspapers, yes, Spain is bad, and silly and wants to steal what is yours.

That said, I will use another post to comment about abortion.

  3. Also, his teammate worked for him, even stopping in the last metres or the boss wouldn't win the championship.

Come on now...are you seriously going to question his legacy over ONE race?

Of course not, don't be silly. He has had plenty of bad races and ugly tactics.

  4. I prefer his Mercedes era. That's really when he showed his great quality and talent.

But even then the other cars were nowhere near as good as the Williams when Schumacher was winning at Bennetton.

Yes well, I'm not an old person, you know.

Also, maybe, only maybe, my comment wasn't totally serious?

Possibly....but 5 driver's championships do not lie....and if it was all about the car, Barrichello would have finished 2nd all those years...but he didn't. It was a "perfect timing" scenario - Best car, best driver.

I won't even go into the fact that Schumacher had a say in the actual development of the Ferraris during those years as well.

The lazy ass could have developed the Mercedes and he wouldn't embarras himself.

Also, his teammate worked for him, even stopping in the last metres or the boss wouldn't win the championship.

  5. Well the question is how do musicians make a shit tonne of cash then if we don't buy their shit? Don't know about you lot but I like the idea of my favourite musos being a bunch of rich motherfucking gregarious cunts.

Concerts? My favourite working class hero has made a few million dollars last year and 92% of his income came from concerts.

    ------------

I download as if there was no tomorrow and I have no regrets. Not in the slightest.

The old record companies oligarchy is the most concerned and outraged for this and they have been the first ones "robbing" the artists, giving them a ridiculous percentage of the sales. And now they don't know how to adapt their business to the current times. And am I supposed to lose my sleep over it? Maybe, but it's not happening.

Does youtube charge us for their content? No. Do they make money? A ton. Same with movies. I watch my movies from a place that gets a lot of money but I download them for free. Producers or film distributors could make a fancy web where you would watch their films and with a couple of ads... there you have, money.

  6. Being such a hyped song and being considered like the masterpiece of rock for so many years and so many people has definitely screwed up Stairway to Heaven.

That excessive praise has led us to the point of considering that a more than good band and a more than good song is overrated. Well, the thing is, the fact that some people talk about the song as if it was the Second Coming of Christ shouldn't make us lose all perspective.

Taking into acocunt that this is a GNR forum, I can understand some of you say SCOM, but you're wrong.

  7. Shakespeare in love winning was a lol moment.

    Chicago

    Reese Witherspoon

Paul Newman for The Color of Money. Newman's great, but giving him the Best Actor for that film was rather transparently a lifetime achievement award instead of anything he did in the role.

Same with Jack Lemmon for Save the TIger. Amazing actor but that wasn't his best role.

  8. I'm definitely buying it! also, anyone who says their going to (illegally)download it first to check it out should give up all rights to bitching and moaning about GnR not releasing new music. If people still bought records bands might be quicker to jump back in the studio... I'm aware GnR have always been a bit shy when it comes to the studio and releasing stuff but the point is still valid!

    Yeah well... no.
