  1. Slash hasn't made an above average song since 1995.

#1 singles and grammy nominations/awards say otherwise.

A bunch of snobs at an award's show doesn't dictate what I like, or what I view as good.

And as far as number 1 singles...Bear in mind, most if not all of them were in a much hyped supergroup composed of members of two huge '90s bands and a member of a popular but not as big '90s band.

And again, if we're measuring commercial success as being equivalent to quality, than Lady Gaga must be better than Rock. Vanilla Ice must've been better than the Illusion records, since his debut record sold more than them.

But unlike those two, there wasn't some sort of musical compromise. Vanilla ice was a fraud and so is Lady Gaga. Slash was successful being himself and doing what he's always done which is playing in a striped down rock group, writing basic rock music. Whether you like it or not, the fact is, he was successful.

Vanilla Ice failed because he promoted himself heavily as this big badass from the ghetto or whatever, people dug around and found out the narrative he'd been telling in his songs and to the media was totally false. Thus, he was proven to be a fraud because he made up his whole persona.

Lady Gaga isn't a fraud. She's an artist who is doing her own thing, much like Slash, Axl and anyone else. She's very much in the David Bowie tradition in that respect.

Slash was successful by latching onto Scott Weiland and playing in a Grunge Rock band. VR's music is far from "basic rock", and rather far from GN'R in style. It's not very stripped down. You want stripped down? Go to The Stooges. Even Izzy's records are more stripped down than VR.

Velvet Revolver's Grammy was for best Rock Performance. So they were being compared to other rock bands. And they won the award. You know why? Slither rocked. Fall to Pieces ROCKED.

Considering it came out in the "Suck Age" of Rock history, there wasn't that much competition.

Slither is an OK song, but Fall to Pieces was ruined by Weiland. Slash should've given the song to Axl in 1996 and allowed the two of them to work on it. It would've been a better song if Axl and Slash worked on it together.

Of course it would have, just like Chinese Democracy might have been bearable if Slash was able to add some awesome shit of his own. :)

  2. The obvious answer to this question is that no GN'R is not done. I'd expect a year hiatus and then Axl will do Chinese Democracy but more like Appetite for Destruction revisited tour 201(x). Then people will anticipate another album that will never see the light of day because everything must run its course.

  3. If they're not going to put out the next album, does it even matter? How long can the Chinese Democracy tour go on, 10 years wasn't enough?

I don't know if I'm completely ready for the next album yet. For some reason, I still don't feel as though my Chinese Democracy journey is complete.

BBA, you're more pathetic than I am, and that's saying a lot.

    wow confident much?

  4. Seriously? This?

So you're not content with being as annoying as possible in Anything Goes and News section, now you wanna be annoying in My World too?

    Yes. NGTFO.

Bono's a stuck up asshole. You couldn't pay me to see Bono in concert.

Axl has a broader vocal range, is more entertaining and you never know what he's going to do.

So Axl isn't a stuck up asshole?

This is the same guy who has bitten a security guard's leg, tried to punch a fan for video taping him while pissing off the city of St. Louis, called his opening acts shit, among other things. Axl is always in the news.

  5. We've already had the U2 v GNR poll, but this is different because now we are talking about the spokespeople in which their band is represented by.

This is also about their careers as a whole, not who is better now. Which legacy is greater and more impressive?

  6. U2 has more " balls " than any artist in the history of popular music. Other artisr will stand by that too. I aint trying to shit on anybody for being on a little forum, but you are ignorant if you think U2 are without " balls ". when Axl was talking about making electronic music , U2 was doing it , with Zooropa then A world tour, POP. There are also eclectronic elements to Achtung Baby. If you could go to a U2 show and not be blown away then thats cool, but to sit on a computer and say shit like you have ever taken a real chance with your own life, or even attempted to create something worthwhile at all, is a joke. Bono is just as real as Axl.

    damn straight

  7. No. Bono takes music to a whole new level.

You might think it's simple bland rock, but that's the genius of it. They took The Edge and showcased his guitar style into their own sound.

Guns N' Roses was the next Rolling Stones and Queen was comparable musically to Bowie among others. U2 was an 80's rock band, but they've developed into more than that. Now Coldplay an others are using the U2 style as their backbone, but it doesn't work that way. There will only be one U2.

  8. There's a difference. Not every single GN'R song takes the This I Love route.

Whereas every U2 song is crap. Inoffensive, commercialized crap. Everything that Rock wasn't supposed to be about. Rock was sex, anger, aggression, and violence. Rock was edgy; Sexual, subtle. Fun.

    U2 is none of those.

That's because they're not a hard rock group. You're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole there...

Unfortunately, to Joe Public, they represent modern rock.

Even Queen had more balls than U2.

    Of course. Freddie loved balls.

  9. You are just jealous that Bono is so talented and such a good person that you find excuses to belittle him. Even Axl has played with him, but we all know who really stole the show...

Besides Steven kicks ass. Drug addiction is a terrible sickness. Shame on you.

Steven blew. I don't care what drugs you're on, a straight man doesn't suck cock.

Bono is gay and I don't care if Axl loved U2 and played with them. They're still CRAP to me. They're everything that's wrong with Rock. They're like neutered rock, which is why Rap took over--Rock lost it's balls with bands like U2.

You think Axl's new record is rock? Buddy, that has more pop elements than Bono has ever used.

U2 is all about bringing good music. Listen to City of Blinding Lights. That itself, is more rock than post 1998 Axl.

  11. Bono is by far the most talented frontman of all time. He could sing November Rain backwards and it would still be better than the original.

Bono is fucking gay. His music is family friendly crap. He's everything Rock n' Roll isn't. He's shit.

Want a good frontman? Freddie. Mick Jagger. Morrison. Frank Valli. John Lennon. Robert Plant. Those guys are frontmen.

Bono is a little pussy charity boy.

Bono's level of amazingness is all of those musicians plus Axl and multiplied by some ridiculously large number.

Besides, how much tickets did Freddie Mercury sell this year? None because he's dead.

Or probably 14 in music hell because he sucks. Literally too.

  12. Slash is boss a pussy.

Fixed. He cries now about how he was supposedly "strong armed." Yet in 1995, 1997, etc he basically said publicly he didn't care about the name. No one put a gun to his head. He just didn't care about the name.

Look at the show in 1992. Axl confronts him about Slash talking shit, and instead of saying, "Yeah, I said it", Slash starts mealy mouthing and denying what he had said.

You can clearly hear him saying, "It's another clothing change." Axl may have just stopped watching the monitors, pissed off hearing Slash say that. Axl would've only heard the initial cutesy remark. And when confronted about that, Slash could've simply said "Yeah, I was wrong--And I corrected myself." But he denies it saying it and gets all nervous.

    Cool story Hansel.
