  1. Estranged was a hit. It was a single. It was played live throughout all of 1991 to 1993. With Izzy and without Izzy

14 Years and Dust N' Bones were never released as singles. They were not a setlist regular and was dropped completely when Izzy left in September 1991.

Izzy was what made those 2 songs great. The one time DnB was played after Izzy left it didn't get the same reception.

Of course it wasn't played after Izzy left, simply cause he was the one singing them...

Could bumblefoot pull off an Izzy type song with axl on the next record?

  2. DJ should be himself, period. He shouldn't have to change for Guns, either way.

And your ridiculous didn't result in anything for me, beyond a few comments on a message board. Don't flatter yourself.

    Ali

That's the point. I don't give a shit what you have to say. Most of it is hollow support anyways.

Which shows have you been to either in the past or recently?

  3. Uninformed? I saw DJ twice before joining GN'R and expressed a differing opinion based in part off that and I'm uninformed? Or, are you one of those of the opinion that irrespective of how many other musicians have worn a top hat, Slash has the market cornered somehow on the right to wear top hats in rock? If taking into all those factors in forming an opinion constitutes uninformed nonsense, then, yeah, I'll keep spouting that off.

    Ali

Its not about Slash being the one able to wear a top hat. Its that he is very closely associated with it in GNR, which would make it very easy for a casual fan (who has never seen or heard DJ before) to say "lolololo he's copying Slash."

Last thing I'll say about this: If the casual fan were to think that, being blissfully unaware of DJ's historical look and/or the history of other rockers wearing top hats, then they're not just casual fans - they're uninformed and ignorant-of-the-facts fans.

On what DJ said in the chat on his website. Is it possible that he was just being sarcastic about GN'R releasing a Christmas album? Maybe he wasn't making a serious comment at all about a release date or anything else. Maybe he was just being sarcastic and making a joke about a Christmas album and it just didn't translate into that clearly without the tone of voice indicating sarcasm?

    Ali

Casual fans don't follow every move made by a band. They don't come to message boards. They buy CDs maybe go to shows sometimes. I guarantee if they saw DJ they would say he is copying slash. All I fuckng said was wear other shit, be original, the dude has his own clothing line, make some ridiculous hat so that people look they say, hey that's fucking DJ Ashba fucking rock on. I like the dude, i know hes talented, i cant wait for the next record, and im not just flaming him. That's all I meant, sorry u have lost days of ur life crying over my comment. If u can't comprehend those statements then oh well, either way let it fucking go...

Would axl have anyone else contribute vocally on the next record? Baz didn't have a big role on cd but songs that Izzy sang back with the old band rocked. Axl had backing parts and I know several of you are fans of Izzy's work, what do u think of maybe even bumblefoot getting involved there?

  4. the trilogy of albums mentioned 2 years ago was only Axl bullshitting his fans as always.

I think there is a difference between having good intensions and bullshitting. We have no idea what kind of obstacles Axl must face to release shit.

I find it hard to beleive that Axl would not like to have more albums out, live dvd's etc.....

I definitely agree that he has some hurdles but other bands can crank out a record in six months. What could cause him to take several years to released a record? The pressure to prove himself and this lineup is on from a fans perspective to get something done. Sure none of this matters to him in his grand scheme but we are all expecting something within the next year. There is no reason not to. He handpicked this lineup enjoys playing with them and no doubt cleared a path with CD to get more music out there

Post something about the actual topic. You spend too time arguing with others about things that don't matter.....

  6. Lets assume they are recording, we know Axl usually does the lyrics last so I imagine they are consulting the vault from the last sessions, axl is hacking away editing copying pasting etc and DJ is just shredding and recording. Do we know where the drummers are at or what they have going on? What kinds or music do u anticipate? Some rockers like schacklers and better followed by the ballads of Atlas shrugged etc.? Or will it be yet another seperate direction? That seems unlikely given the cast and their backgrounds.... Are there other working titles we know of?

It doesn't matter if DJ wore a top hat prior to the band, just put it away after joining gnr. All it does is feed the haters that think this band is a travelling cover band. I don't feel that way I was just commenting on the picture posted...end of that story.....

I think it does matter that DJ wore a top hat prior to joining the band. If he didn't wear the top hat because of GN'R, he shouldn't have to take it off because of GN'R - he should just be himself, no matter what. Anyone who thinks that he wore the top hat just because of GN'R and desire to mimic Slash is a completely misinformed "hater", and that's on them.

    Ali

You think it matters, congratulations. My opinion was based on that specific pictureand u are putting waaay to much weight into it or have nothing better to stress about. Please post 14 more times about why it is ok. We are dying to hear it.....

I'm def not a hater, I like dj, and can't wait to see what he comes up with. Do you have anything to add to the topic or are you just filling it with uninformed nonsense?

  8. you're missing the point. it doesn't matter that slash wasn't the first to wear to the top hat, it is something that is closely associated with him and guns n roses.

if i'm dj i would want my own identity in the band. therefore, i wouldn't wear it. I wouldn't want the fans reminded of slash every time they saw me.

Exactly I never said slash was the first, I was merely stating its a part of guns n roses and it does represent slash. Sure Alice Cooper may have worn it but if we play word association and say top hat guitarist 99% of people would say slash. Believe it it not I like Ashba's style and wasn't being a cupcake. That's picture just got to me for some reason hence the comment. He should have his own style which he does. I love his intro to WTTJ that's a part of it. Just come up with something original. None of those other guys replaced a legend that wore a top hat, he did. Its lame that its the same band and same instrument is all.

Anyways after that terrible side track job by u guys, I started the mess so I'm ending it. Ashbas comments do gimme hope for a new CD but like other people have stated he's the only one saying it. I wish it would get backed up or confirmed in a more concrete manner but that prob wont happen.

"So what'll happen to us baby, guess we'll just have to wait and seeeeeeeee......"

  9. dj_ashba_sm.jpg

Why does he insist on the top hat? I like him and his style but ur clearly copying slash after replacing him in his band. Lame.....there's countless other items he could wear.....why not go with a kfc bucket while your at it some nights

  10. Chinese Democracy

    Shackler's Revenge

    Better

    Street of Dreams

    If The World

    There Was A Time

    Catcher In The Rye

    Scraped

    Riad N' The Bedouins

    Sorry

    I.R.S.

    Madagascar

    This I Love

    Prostitute

Very original. I guess you don't respect or care for what Izzy slash or duff have done since leaving the band?

Every time I come into this section I am still baffled that there are people that think Chinese Democracy was a great album.

What would you say is wrong with it?

Pretty sure I said to not debate the individual music. Stay on topic.....

  11. If you could take all the great songs from Chinese, slash solo CD, velvet revolver, duff and izzys projects, and maybe even Adler's stuff and put them on a comprehensive CD reflecting the CD that could have been what they woulda came up with had they not broken up, what would you include? Lets limit it to 20 songs and avoid who's stuff is better. Just keep it to a list and have some feedback.....lemme know what you guys think....

  12. Is it possible to actually have an intelligent conversation about the album without going all axl vs slash, Axl is fat, etc?

For example, twat and shacklers coulda easily been on UYI. To me they are great songs. Maddy as well. However rhiad and catcher just miss and I end up changing the song. Chinese sounds like a new age jungle, but overall its hard to justify the wait. If it was followed up by two albums and released in 2002ish most if not all of us would be very happy with the progress of the band. Unfortunately we all know what didn't happen

  13. Bumblefoot etc - you haven't recorded songs with axl yet (according to what we have info/access to) you have toured the world, and are an active member of the band...

    he's all over CD...

Good point, edited first post. He has been more active recently in regards to wanting to create more music. I look at CD as more of a buckethead/finck creation with a tad of bumble....

  14. Who has the better odds?

Buckethead etc - you have already recorded several songs with axl, have left the band, but there's a chance your songs will see the light of day in some form....

Ashba etc - you haven't recorded songs with axl yet (according to what we have info/access to) you have toured the world, and are an active member of the band...

Who's music will come out first? If you think both will be on the next cd then the tiebreaker would be the first song on the new CD.

Which horse are you putting your money on?

This isn't meant to be a versus thread so don't take it that route. More of a hypothetical in regards to a CD we all want to come out....

  15. if i remember right what Slash said about the Estranged solo is that it's the most demanding in terms of being focused when playing it live. this does not necesarilly mean hardest or best.

Axl thanked him specifically for his efforts on that song. Slash said it was the hardest to record and put together. If your going to argue a point do some research

  16. Which gig is the gnr account talking about today? The rose bar or ?

@gunsnrosesJohn Varvatos remembers our gig at his store: "Guns N' Roses came to the Bowery store to headline New York Fashion Week and they were meant to perform four songs for me. In the end, they played for two and a half hours solid. It was a complete surprise and an amazing show that was talked about for weeks. One of the guys from ZZ Top said it was one of his five greatest moments in music."
