  1. This band has always been dysfunctional. One could argue from day one. AFD was the perfect storm/lightning in a bottle, etc and even at the beginning it was not universally praised. After that it’s always been occasionally WTF for certain things, and also lots of negativity regarding musical directions, experimentation, etc. Obviously, in the CD era, all has been magnified. Also, and there’s something consistent in the fact that they didn’t give a fuck then or now what people think. This has persisted throughout.
  2. Great point, but I think HS and Absurd are plenty upbeat. More AFD pace if you will. Perhaps and Atlas more Axl UYI type. On a side note, I know that I’ve listened to a GNR song with the title “The General” with vocals. Could be mislabeled and is actually another song, but I can’t pair it with any other leaked title. Have others heard this? Very epic with lots of changes and some classical instrumentation.
  3. I appreciate your POV on this, but Slash has done plenty of good work as a session player, so it’s no excuse if it’s not up to par. Until I hear the studio version in good quality, I will reserve judgement over whether I personally like it, but obviously it’s subjective. It’s not like I LOVE every slash solo even in the classic material. Maybe that’s just what he wanted to do and some don’t like it. As far as he he just listened to it once and winged it, that’s how he described the genesis of the NR solos, and those turned out ok. Also, I’m really surprised that people think there are “mistakes” on the HS/Absurd/Perhaps. Maybe questionable choices, but I cannot believe Axl is letting stuff go that’s not up to just standards He never has, maybe OMG excepted. I think part of the issue is many are expecting WTTJ or Estranged quality, and maybe that’s just not coming and maybe it never would have anyway. I still think we can enjoy it, even if it’s not a GNR “Top 10”
  4. “Perhaps” but much as BBF added parts for CD or even Gilby to TSI, Axl seems to have releases reflect current lineups.
  5. Success metrics aside, I am not sure how one compares the NuGNR body of work (CD) against AFD/Lies/UYI output or quality wise. Maybe some believe that CD alone trumps all the previous stuff, but I tend to believe that’s a VERY small minority. Maybe you preferred the NU guys (in the various incarnations) live, but that is just about the only way I can see it, but hey it’s just my opinion.
  6. Most seem to think that Robins guitar part is still in. Wouldn’t it be possible for that part to be played by someone else? Hard for me to believe that Slash would be OK with that inclusion. Also, it seems Slash’s solo is getting negative/mixed reviews. Is that coming mostly from people who tend to prefer NuGNR lineups or is this a shared sentiment? Not judging anyone’s taste, serious question.
