  1. I actually think Appetite was a really poppy album. I mean, yeah, it's rooted in hard rock, but the melodies had elements of pop and dance.

In which songs do you find these elements? The only song I might agree has got an element of dance must be the rhythms in rocket queen.

Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, Think About You, and Anything Goes.

  2. Few come to mind:

    Demon Days by Gorillaz

    FutureSex/LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake

    Plastic Beach by Gorillaz

    Blackout by Britney Spears

    The Fame by Lady Gaga

Decided to leave Pop Rock out of this.

So we're leaving out P!nk and Kelly Clarkson? Meh. I honestly believe Breakaway is the best pop album of the last decade.

I know it's an EP and not technically an album, but Gaga's The Fame Monster is much better than The Fame. Also, Back To Basics and Fearless are great albums (Speak Now is better, but I believe that one came out in 2010).

The Fame Monster has a couple of very good songs, but I'm not such a huge fan since it's when I think Lady Gaga started overdoing it, to the point I of me really enjoying her first album to really disliking her (hate is too strong but almost).

Fair enough. I don't like Born This Way for pretty much the same reason.

    lol britney spears

Don't act like you don't enjoy Toxic.

  4. I know, but you said Estranged had better lyrics, and I was disagreeing. I already answered the question upthread:

    Clearly Estranged.

you said your personal preference was the lyrics in November Rain. You didn't say you thought they were better.

I prefer the lyrics in November Rain too btw.

Well, okay, that was my way of saying I find them better. Estranged isn't anything special lyrically.

  5. Well, kinda. The painter would have his strenghts, just like Psy's "good" at writing catchy songs. Well, to be honest I'm pretty sure he doesn't even write his own songs, just like most shitty pop acts out there but I could be wrong. In the end they suck at creating art but suceed on entertaining people, I know. Not the kinda art I enjoy listening/viewing to, but that's me.

(Turns out that I was right, he didn't even write the song...)

Well, then he's good at selecting catchy songs. :P I think I'm in the minority in that it doesn't bother me when someone doesn't write their own music, but I understand your point of view. Especially since some of the pop songs could literally be sung by anybody.

Yes, but they got to be the biggest band because they were the best at their time, they evolved a lot musically over the years and so did the whole music industry after them. If they didn't evolve I doubt they'd be as big and as influential as they are. Obviously nowadays you can't be as innovative as those bands, but good bands lost their space on the mainstream charts due to musicians that like to entertain rather than write something meaningful.

I meant that they attained a huge portion of their popularity (at the time) from their lame songs. So who knows? Maybe a lame ass band will come along, monopolize top 40 radio, and then release the best songs ever. Really unlikely, though.

I do think entertainment is the #1 factor in top 40 radio now. Every pop culture junkie I talk to says that they prefer an entertaining performance over stunning vocals and meaningful music.

We still have great and amazing acts to listen to, but we just have to search further. That's how I discovered bands like Freak Kitchen, Bumblefoot, Shawn Lane & Jonas Hellborg The Aristocrats, Primus, etc.

I think that's a good thing. :) I think it's better to search for an artist and fall in love organically rather than being force-fed. Unfortunately, CHR is starting to force-feed (imo bad) pop tunes as of late.

  6. think he meant "Latin American fans that are stupid." As in the stupid fans that are Latin American, not that all Latin American fans are stupid. Poor wording, though.

Oh don't do PR for crash diet. It was stereotyping, plain and simple. There was no wording issue. He knew exactly what he was typing. And he deserved to be checked.

Just saying it as I read it. :shrugs: Truth be told, I don't pick up on racist undertones as quickly as other people here seem to. But anyway, he cleared it up.

  7. It's like giving a lot of money to a painter that sucks. Sure, some people may like the final result of the paints, but in the end he still sucks and there will be no room for real painters.

That's not quite the same thing because obviously Psy is good at making catchy dance songs.

Partially because of these folks the music industry sucks right now and we will not see another Zep or Beatles again. There's almost no room for good music on the mainstream scene.

But usually bands like those break into the industry when it's at its lowest point, so bands like those have the best chance of breaking right now. :D Besides, the Beatles didn't originally get popularity for their deep, experimental, intriguing songs; they got it for their shallow, stereotypical pop songs.

Several top 30 videoclips are just stupid men fucking bitches, there's no message or meaning behind them.

Like I said, this isn't much different than when Poison was popular.

I just happen to hate all of that. I'm not saying that they should listen to a certain genre - but they should simply stop listening to what MTV or YouTube tells them to listen to. I know countless people like that, sadly. I'm not talking about music or art only - these people just go through the motions and follow what's cool out there, and that makes them uncool to me.

I agree with this. If they genuinely love that music, good for them. But if they're just listening to it because it's popular and on CHR, I get annoyed.

  8. 90%

the remaining 10% mostly are stupid latin american fans

Hey you racist ass hole, why would we the latin american fans be stupid? show some respect and think a litlle bit before writting in your computer, motherfucker!

I think he meant "Latin American fans that are stupid." As in the stupid fans that are Latin American, not that all Latin American fans are stupid. Poor wording, though.

  9. I hate those 80's songs lyrics as well, but they at least had someone serious playing music. No, it's not about instrument, but that stupid dance and the song melody behind it all that made me think: mainstream music listeners dont give a fuck about musicality. They want to be entertained and if that comes from a retard riding an imaginary horse with some random beats behind it all, so be it.

Because to some people, music is something to dance to. They don't care about songs that make them think or songs that have a gorgeous guitar solo. They care about songs that move them... literally. It's not a bad way of looking at music; it's just a different way.

  10. The lyrics in Gangnam Style aren't any worse than the lyrics in many popular rock songs (especially from the '80s :scared: ). And it is on Top 40 radio.

Personally, I'm indifferent to the song. But I don't understand why anyone would show it passionate hatred.
