  1. Danker, go back and read my post again. I was agreeing with you

BirdCatcher, cry me a fucking river. We're talking about a rock band on this site, none of this is personal and definitely shouldn't be taken that way... if you're offended by anything I say about Guns N' Roses on the internet you can blame your own thin skin.

All I have to say is respect other people's opinions instead of being a dick about it. Maybe you should take a little look at the forum rules in the FAQ, I know I am not a mod, but I am getting tired of seeing your disrespectful posts. Not liking a person is one thing but to wish death on them is pretty fucked up.

uh when did i ever wish death on anybody

    back on topic :-)

So which performance was better RiR 2001 or RiR 2011..

    I vote 2001 :shades:

I would take the LA Forum show a few days ago over both of them

I agree...the new band is a powerhouse now, but they've had the time to become as good as they are ---- a luxury the 2001 lineup didn't really have because of cancelled tours, sporadic dates etc... but it was still amazing and charming to see all the amazingly talented 2001 members just go pedal to the metal for better or for worse at that Rio show.

DJ seems to embody everything the original GNR mocked and criticized, and I find it disgusting. I've said it before and I'll say it again; can't wait till he gets shitcanned/quits/dies/whatever, as soon as he isn't in Guns N' Roses anymore my confidence in this band will skyrocket

Ashba is a goofball who isn't that great of a player but he's a nice guy and he makes Axl happy so who gives a f*k.... sounds like im talking about 2 gay dudes. :xmasssanta:

  3. A lot of bitter people on this forum. Hatred for a got because he had fun while playing live. He would be much cooler if he just stood there and didn't engage the crowd. And he wears a hat and smokes......what a douche. Good thing no other guitar players do that.

And how dare he post on Facebook. Tho, I suppose if I hated a guy, I wouldn't hang out on his Facebook, but that's just me.

Stop being so damn defensive in every thread. If you like the guy, cool say so. You always just complain about other peoples' opinions.

Sort of like you are doing right here?

I have to laugh at the sixx am generic radio rock comments. What the heck was VR!!!! Fall to Pieces was as cliched paint by numbers as they come.

haha...musically "Fall To Pieces" is "Yesterdays" but even slower. Way to evolve Slash.

That being said I did like Contraband, but "Fall to Pieces" was not a finer moment on the album.

PS: that DJ Ashba online store is lame as fuck.

Sixx:Am is fucking awful!!! hahahaha that birdcatcher needs to take thy stick out of thy arse

  6. Would have been the best song on Chinese Democracy if it made the cut

I can name 14 Better songs on Chinese Democracy.

    derpa durrr, opinions

If you can't respect other people's opinions you can get the fuck off the forum.

wheres the disrespect? I was just pointing out that we have different opinions, little defensive eh?

when is finger eleven's new cd coming out! I'm ready to rock!!! HARD!!!! :violin: <<----- this post is disrespectful :-)

  7. Would have been the best song on Chinese Democracy if it made the cut

I can name 14 Better songs on Chinese Democracy.

Me too. Oh My God is my least favorite GNR track that Axl sang on. It has grown on me a lot over the years though.

it was the darkest craziest song Axl's recorded. who wouldn't love that!!!

people who listen to Sixx AM

give me a break. Nikki Sixx is someone that should have just gone away. His radio show is a joke. He's the most obvious slow-witted person in the history of radio and the most blatantly forgettable bassist in the world. He's a joke. Axl was the only person to come out of the 1980s rock world who wasn't a doof!!!

PS: just listened to some Sixx:Am. Sounds like fucking finger eleven. hahaha

  9. I think Axl has proved that his voice can still sound like his old self just listen to the Back in the Saddle cover he did with Bach.

Damn, I had actually never paid attention to that song. Why doesn't he ever sing like that? Sounds awesome! The vocals on CD is one of the reasons to why I don't like that album. Figured Axl tried to "sound Axl" but couldn't really do it the same way anymore but THESE vocals are awesome.

Yeah. He sounds great on those Sebastian tracks. That album came out in 2007 so you can safely say Axl probably recorded those vocals in 2006. A lot of people on this forum say they loved his voice in 2006 but don't like it now. He obviously had the ability to sound like that during the course of recording Chinese but chose to experiment due to personal choice.

PS: Bach is the most pathetic ham in the history of rock

  10. I actually hope the band records fresh new takes. I don't want another album of protools compilations of "songs with parts recorded anytime from 1999 to 2007". I personally want the band to write mostly new material, rearrange a couple of the older songs if needed and record fresh studio takes all from the same time period

I want new material too, but I also want Chinese Democracy 2 and 3 as it was made to be heard with the Chinese Dem lineup(s)---- like Axl has told us we'd get for years and years.

I don't see why "fresh takes" would be an issue. he released the album with Brain, Bucket, and Finck thoroughly credited and pictured years after their departure.

What if GNR had only released Use Your Illusion 1 and then promised sometime soon we'd get Use Your Illusion 2???!!! It would have been a cardinal sin to not release UYI-2 since we all know how great it is.

thats why they say ignorance is bliss i guess....

  11. RiR3 is one of the coolest shows. I remember paying 80 bucks for it on ebay in 2001 -- the VHS had Portuguese writing on it.

This is the lineup that I would love to see come back. Sadly the original gunners are more likely to get back together before Bucket, Brain, Huge, and Finck ever will because there is no huge demand for it. These guys were the main contributors to Chinese Democracy and the ones that kick-started nuGuns - and the only lineup where I have, in Bucket and Brain's case, extensively followed and been a huge fan of all of their other projects.

Plus everyone was a character and it was so anti-"classic GNR" which is what I've always wanted and what I feel Axl has always wanted for the most part. He felt driven to put a few traditional hard rock sounding songs on Chinese and still plays a lot of the Appetite songs live merely to appease the fans and keep them in the stands. If he had his way I don't think he would ever touch Appetite material again. I love Chinese and I'd love to be able to see the guys that had the most input in its creation live!! I had tickets to see them in New Mexico in 2002 but we all know how that tour turned out don't we??

PS: I also would have loved to hear what the music would have sounded like had Axl gone down the "Oh My God-style" path during the Freese & Finck era in 1998-1999. Everything on Chinese sounds much more traditional than "Oh My God" (which is really saying something). That leads me to believe there is a completely different sounding album collecting dust somewhere in a vault that is much harder, darker, and more experimental than anything Axl has ever done --- and we will NEVER hear it. :anger:

I agree with you completely. It looks unlikely that there would be the right circumstances for Finck, Buckethead and/or Brain to rejoin and like you said, no 'demand' for it in comparison to a reunion.

That rio show I still enjoy watching and even right up until 2006 before Finck left I had a hope that his presence alone, as a prominent member of the previous (2001/02) line up would keep a 'link' with the unreleased music, meaning that you wouldn't have lead guitar parts replaced by Cashba or the like.

People consider the lineup of that era to be a circus or other derogatory term but that's what I liked about it so much, Axl coming back with a new beast, against everyones expectations of what GNR is or should be, and taking his own direction.

Right now in 2011 I think the current lineup is a little 'easier' for classic GNR fans to accept in terms of their appearance and style.

I would have wanted to see some of the remaining Chinese Democracy songs like "The General", "Soul Monster" etc turn up on a new album but now I'm a little concerned that the drum and guitar parts would be changed/replaced.

We can only hope that, if the door for releasing new music opens, that they might collect all this unreleased music from the vault and offer it in the form of a box set or exclusive downloadable content.

You're spot on. The circus aspect is what I liked about it. You summed up my feelings on why I think of this band as a little inferior -- "Right now in 2011 I think the current lineup is a little 'easier' for classic GNR fans to accept in terms of their appearance and style." And that to me is really sad. I wished Axl would still maintain his "i don't give a fuck attitude" in terms of both music and appearance. He had that attitude for so long and that is why Chinese Democracy sounds the way it does and why people are on extreme sides in terms of their acceptance of it. --- Its only in recent years that he HAS given a fuck, and any music created by this current lineup will reflect that attitude --- im not saying that its good or bad... it just IS..

There have been recent interviews about "writing, recording" with this current lineup so I bet any remaining unreleased Chinese material created from 1994-2007 will be put to bed for good - especially since basically all of the key members from 1999-2006 era GNR are gone expect the mainstays of Tommy, Dizzy, and Chris.

You were right about Finck being the link to the unreleased Chinese material.. and now that the link is gone so is any chance of that material being released. Potentially dozens of amazing songs are just gone because of one persons departure. The only hope would be for Ashba to get fired (cuz he's NEVER quitting) and have Finck come back. They left on good terms and Axl acknowledged him publicly as a positive member of the GNR legacy. **Crosses fingers**

  12. Would you guys agree that UYI tour-era Axl would not be able to accurately hit the notes to Shackler's chorus and parts of This I Love??

His tone has changed due to age as it does with everyone, but his ability has gotten better and has harkened back to Live Like A Suicide days - there was hardly any any UYI era grit/rasp to his voice back then.

I'll agree. I also think he does the waaaaaaaaarrrrr in Civil War a lot better now than he did in the 90's. He was pretty much nothing but rasp back then.

i agree. that shows he can pull off that UYI rasp when he wants to, but that type of raspy singing doesn't lend itself to accurately hitting the high melodies in both Appetite and Chinese.

I also think that shows that the UYI songs are for-the-most-part easier for him now because he recorded those songs when he was in a much less healthier state vocally. Now that he's in a healthy state he has the option to play around with rasp and stylization when it calls for it on those UYI songs. On the UYI tour it wasn't healthy --- it was either ALL rasp or low cleans (i.e. Patience, parts of Don't Cry)

don't get me wrong...that early 90s rasp sounded cool as fuck!!!! but i was equally blown away in 2001 when he came back hitting those clean highs which we haven't heard since mid 80s Guns and on the Appetite recording.

I don't know why people call it Mickey Mouse. Am I the only one that loved his voice in 2001 and now in 2011???!!

  13. Sounds no different now then he did In Rio. Certain songs he has Improved on, but not many. Here Is Rocket Queen from the Forum(Starts at 27:50) and Rocket Queen from Rock In Rio.

I agree wholeheartedly. Thats how he's sounded since he's been taking prestine care of his voice!!! In the UYI era you'd always see him smoking during interviews.

Would you guys agree that UYI tour-era Axl would not be able to accurately hit the notes to Shackler's chorus and parts of This I Love??

His tone has changed due to age as it does with everyone, but his ability has gotten better and has harkened back to Live Like A Suicide days because he's taking care of it - there was hardly any UYI era grit/rasp to his voice back then.

that rasp for the most part is induced by unhealthy habits.

  14. This I Love is a good indicator of the rasp-o-metre

Its a good indicator of his "ability" to rasp on that night but not proof that he will actually do it on more than a few songs.

fuck...Im a singer and still recovering from singing along at ONLY ONE GNR show last Friday. Imagine doing what he does every night on an international tour!!!??!!!! He's gonna have some ups and downs for sure as he's always had since he came back around in 2001. I see no real difference in his vocal trends in recent years.

its like global warming. its cyclical. :tongue2: :tongue2:

  15. Frank is the best GNR drummer they've had. His drums sound amazing and he is a real powerhouse. Kinda Bonham-esque imo.

Sorum has one fill 'Dun Dun -- Dun Dun Dun" (i.e. every song on the Illusions records haha) and is a douchebag

Brain is a great drummer but a little too spastic and improvisational which is why he works great in a jam band context but not the ideal drummer for GNR even though I loved his work in it. Bucket and Brain have a natural chemistry, but a chemistry that is very non-GNR sounding.

Steven blows. He was only a decent garage drummer when GNR first came on the scene and now he can't even play the songs at all. Watch some Adler's Appetite vids on Youtube. He regularly misses snare hits and does off-beat bass drum hits which unintentionally sound like a sloppy"funk" beats because he can't function anymore!!! It sounds like a stroke victim playing drums..... .... . .

  16. He's not terribly skilled or anything but he has a great sense of touch and seems to know the keyboard very well even though he doesn't do anything too flashy. I love Axl's piano playing

he may not have a huge skillset in terms of musical theory but his technique is MUCH better than Dizzy's. Dizzy is sloppy. Compare Axl and Dizzy's fingers next time you watch a show and you'll see Axl has much better pianist technique.

and all that theory and positioning shit aside --- Axl can write a badass song using the instrument. I know Dizzy couldn't write anything even remotely close to November Rain, This I Love, or Estranged.

  17. RiR3 is one of the coolest shows. I remember paying 80 bucks for it on ebay in 2001 -- the VHS had Portuguese writing on it.

PS: I didn't think anything could make me anymore of a hardcore GNR fan but this show has has brought me to another level that I didn't think was possible. It was the most amazing experience I've had at a concert. cheers!!!

  19. I met DJ at a small club in Denver back in 2001 when he was in a band called Beautiful Creatures. I got tickets because outside the venue people were saying they were Cali rock band in the style of Guns N Roses so I was like "Hell yea! I should check this show out!" ---

--- My girlfriend instantly had a crush on him and he had more of a fem look to him back then. I remember I liked that (at that point in his career) he played Ernie Ball Music Man guitars because I was thinking about getting one at the time. So after the show he was hanging by the bar talking to the singer and I came up to him and said "I love your Ernie Balls!!! ---" DJ and the singer exchanged a "WTF" look and then he said "Thanks man." -- It wasn't until after I left the venue that I realized what I had said and how it must have come across.
