Was that in the book? Damn I must have forgotten that part. It was a while since I read the book and I know it wasn't in the tv movie was it? Damn I've seen this movie a lot, how could I forget this part?

It's not in the TV adaptation given it was a TV adaptation, I do remember reading it in the book.

Wasn't there also a part in the book where Henry Bowers gets jerked off by one of his gang?

Anyway, on topic of the new trailer, I'm glad so far it stays true to the source material and look forward to the movie in that regard.

  2. I have kind of mixed feelings about the whole reunion tour.

    Pro:

It's obviously great to have Duff and Slash back playing the iconic Guns catalogue
I like their take on some (not all) of the Chinese tracks
Axl sounds great again on this tour and probably had to get in shape in order for it to work
The band feels more like a band

    Con:

The same ol' setlist safe for a couple of tracks
No BBF and this for me is most noticeable on the ChiDem tracks.
No new material with Slash and Duff
No unreleased material from CD or new recordings from NuGuns due to this tour

  3. Sad news as William Peter Blatty, author of "The Exorcist" as well as director of "The Ninth Configuration" and "Exorcist III", has passed away.

Little tie-in with Guns n' Roses, as Kinderman's speech from the finale of "The Exorcist III", which blatty wrote and directed, was used throughout their 2001-2002 tour as an intro.

    He will be missed!

Brian is still able to sing well. His was was actually very good during his last tour.

He was barely making it through the songs and clearly holding back during the last tour. From the get go it felt to me like this was one tour too many for Brian.

Not taking away anything he's done prior as he was great live before, but the rock or bust tour to me felt like the band had surpassed its stay.

Of course I was proven wrong once Axl joined and the band came alive again.

You really can't fault Brian, he put in his time and for me will always be the lead singer of AC/DC, as Bon Scott is for so many other people.

I am no fan of Pittman or NuGuns in general but I found it curious people are criticizing the man for suing Axl to get money that was promised to him.......if someone owed you money would you just give it up and walk away or seek justice to get paid?..........

My thoughts exactly. Well not exactly as I am a fan of NuGuns. ;)

Shout out to the local newspaper article that called Pittman a "sound guy" instead of a musician or band member

  6. I like prostitute but the opening is so darn cheesy with the tacky beat loop and the guitar layers. There is a great piano melody buried underneath that and I wish they build up the song more from that melody instead of the wall of production that hits you from the start. But the lyrics and singing are great and the ending makes a great outro of sorts for the album.

  7. I would be willing to finally replace Pitman with Melissa as I got that wrong on the last makeover :D but I currently have my stuff in storage awaiting a move to a new place. I'll see if I can have some time left to get that done at least but as for a makeover of the current banner to reflect the current tour; perhaps a new contest would be welcome?

I mean if spirits are interacting with us, then what are the logistics behind it? How and when can they show up? How much energy does it take? Why cant we measure the energy? Why is there no evidence of its interaction, surely an apparition would leave some kind of change behind, in order to materialize or interact with our universe

    I love the explanation given by the comedian Paul Mooney why there are no ghosts;

In the West you only see white ghosts, if ghosts truly existed all the black slaves surely would come back to haunt white people.

    To all those who claim to have had experiences;

You are a human being with senses and feelings and perceptions which can easily be tricked into believing you experienced something ghostly or otherworldly when in fact it's your mind playing tricks. Also a lot of believers tend to be easy pray for so called mediums and channelers of so called spirits who pray on dumb people's money. People can be fooled to believe in anything they've been indoctrinated to believe. Having an open mind for the extra-ordinary also means having an open mind that it's all tricks, psychology and misdirection.

Crickey, The BFG is a bit of a flop.

I'd only see it out of nostalgia for the cartoon version, but the trailer didn't do much for me. Spielberg adapting a childhood favorite is not a sure bet, especially after the rather mediocre Tintin. But yeah, that result is brutal, it's a story that deserves to be seen by lots of children as opposed to a lot of the crap they'll problaby watch instead.

  10. Saw it today, about as dumb as the original which I didn't mind. Two problems with the movie;

When the first one came out, it was a novel concept with cool effects sequences, this basically redoes those and the novelty has worn off.

The alternate universe with alien technology fused into our civilization makes it harder to care for the invasion this time around.

I did enjoy parts of it, mostly the Brent Spiner and Jef Goldblum scenes but the new cast was rather meh. I did not miss Will Smith, but come to think of it I haven't missed him in anything since the bad string of movies he did in the 00's.

    Ok for a rental.

ouch... someone on twitter who apparently is in the know when it comes to the box office and all that said sony is looking at a loss of 150 million with this movie. that wasn't including the money given to murray and aykroyd for the rights.

You can bet that the hefty marketing campaign that was hastely set up once the trailers burned on the net cost Sony a ton as well. No way they will break even on this movie, the only minor saving grace is that the ghostbusters franchise has been revived sort of. I truly hope this version is dead and they will not revive it with a terrible sequel. Two things that cost them this movie; banking on a rom-com female cast to wow a pre-dominantly male fanbase and making the movie too political which has never been what Ghostbusters is about. I'm actually glad the magic that Murray, Ackroyd and Ramis created can't just be rebottled and sold as a 100 million dollar effects SNL episode of the week. There is nothing more sattisfying than seeing these cash grab franchise reboots burn at the box office, I can't wait for an all black Goonies remake.

  12. Saw it this week. Basically Star Trek meets Thundercats but I didn't mind this; for once I was impressed with the alien world as well as the world building, it looked very imaginative. Seeing the trailer, I feared they were going to overdo it with the Kirk daddy issues but thankfully that was kept at a minimum. Same for the gay Sulu stuff, you can tell they wrote this in to woo the PC crowd and to be honest, Gay Takei's reaction was kinda over blown anyway -pardon the pun.

I really liked it, had a good sense of adventure and for once it didn't rely overly on existing Trek mythology.

  13. I use a SCOTT bike for daily commute and enjoy it! it's a great way to start the day.

Question for you velo lovers; what do you use against rain? I have a rain jacket but it's too hot for the summer and it doesn't cover everything.

So I was debating about getting a bike poncho, it looks a very dry system though perhaps not ideal when it's overly windy. Anyone got some experience with these?

Also, they make you look like the phantom of the opera

fresh or freese, it all doesnt matter if you don't have a great stove.

i've got a brand new stove recently and i can make a shoe tasty in it.

but most of the time, i'm just taking a peperoni special out of the freezer.

Sure it matters. A stove or oven wont make any difference in telling apart a freshly baked or out of the freezer pizza.

The type of oven only matters for the fresh pizza where with a hot oven you can make a pizza in a matter of minutes as opposed to 10-12 minutes in the common hot air ones.

What you can do to improve a frozen pizza is add fresh toppings (spices, herbs, cheese) or spicy oil to give it some more favor.

  15. I'm a pizzaholic. But not the mutations on display in this thread. I want my pizza with regular dough, well cooked and seasoned tomato sauce, topped off either with mozzarella and mushrooms or the 4 cheese variant.

Star trek doesn't even discuss God, faith or religion and until now, sexual orientation.

    2700706782_341748b759.jpg

To be fair Star Trek TMP was originally going to be about the search for God which they ended up doing in Star Trek V. Also, DS9 had a whole main story religious angle with the prophets who resided in the wormhole.

That said, I agree that it was a dumb decision to make Sulu gay, especially if the inspiration for that was George Takei's personal life. By the same token they'd have to make Kirk a huge asshole who forgets his crew members' names:

  17. A lot of people I know are obsessed with it. There's been warnings on the news of people who get robbed or get into accidents because they are using it in the car or walking on the street and not paying attention...

I don't get the appeal, I mean I saw some of the cartoons back in the day, but the whole collecting different animals etc. = uberboring to me. I hear it gets a lot nerds out on the street so I imagine seeing a lot of fat couch potato teenagers walking the streets like hordes of cell phone zombies.

    Love the paranoia here
