  1. Very non-descriptive answers by BBF, I wonder if he's choosing not to go deeper into the topic because of legal issues or just out of personal integrity. I guess it's probably a combo of both but great to see him still putting the fans first.

And yes, I do miss him in the current lineup and hope that he'll at least get invited back once for a live show like Finck.

Apparently now they've worked in a new scene in the movie....where the ghostbusters upload a video on youtube. The girls check it out, and have a go at all the haters and cupcakes.

Because as we all know a motion picture is a social media tool you can simply alter at the last minute.

Actually that is what happens due to a lot of test screenings and internet reaction nowadays, and just adds to the sad state of movies when there is no artistic integrity left.

The problem with Mark Evans is that the Youngs completely shafted him on the Hall of Fame thing, but then, 'Money Talks' - as does a bit of grovelling.

I happen to have listened to the Stern show interview AC/DC gave prior to the rock n' roll hall of fame and the impression I got was they could not give less a fuck about the whole award or ceremony; they just did it for the fans. Can't blame them really as that hall of fame is a sham and should not reflect on an artists' legacy.

  4. Seeing this news I can understand that a 66 year old man doesn't want to do world tours any longer and enjoy retirement. I doubt Brian Johnson will return for the same reason, nothing to do with the hearing loss. They've put in their time for which I am grateful. I hope Angus will realise now that the band has run its course.

  5. Currently a news item. In the latest movie, Sulu is

    Spoiler

a homosexual. Ironically the director and Simon Pegg wrote him that way as a tribute to George Takei, who reacted disappointingly that they changed Gene Roddenberry's character from straight to gay.

  6. South Paw

Jake Gyllenhaal can do little wrong for me, easily the best leading actor at the moment. The story is old hack but this cast (including fity and Whitaker) does an amazing job. Worth checking out.

Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice

I wasn't a fan of the latest Superman and this is more the same. Far too few relevant action sequences and instead too much shitty storylines that go nowhere. Worst Lex Luthor ever. If it wasn't for Tom Hardy in Star Trek Nemesis and Timothy Olyphant in Die Hard IV I'd say worst villain ever. Afleck was ok as Fatman, though he does resemble the 90s cartoon version more in stature. I honestly don't get why people flock to see this type of shit, it all looks so unimaginative and when did comic book adaptations have all the fun drained out of them? Seeing these movies feels like you're watching superheroes on the couch at their shrink's office.

  7. I liked the sound design in Spielberg's War of the Worlds for the tripods. Once they showed the actual aliens it was "meh". Will prob go watch ID4 2 in the next week or so against better judgement.

Looks great. Sad Will Smith isn't in it, but other than that looks awesome. I loved the first movie.

90s Will Smith is long gone. Scientology Will Smith is all that's left and well... no thanks!

  8. I own one that's legit but still sealed. I compared my copy to the one in that auction and at first glance the artwork, sticker label and cutout appear the same. Of course it is possible to make a fake. But you'd need to have a pressed CD (I'm not sure if the disc is the same as the regular release as I haven't opened mine) and as mentioned before the artwork would have to be high quality and the sticker would have to be replicated as well.

I intend to leave mine sealed for the time being. I've seen the scans of the booklet, own the regular now worth 2 $ release  and it's a cool item to have in the collection.

If you bring Pulp in to it, putting aside the waffle about stolen ideas, Tarantino breathed life into crime caper movies. The art narrative used in crime movies was something new in Hollywood. He's skilled filmaker. Whereas Shawshank is a solid story presented in the most dour way. Just flat because that doesn't upset anyone. Hollywood conventions followed. Wrist slashingly slow, filmed like Sesame street, it's like an exercise in boring choices. But there is the popular survivor theme that everyone likes. A worthiness. It's inoffensive to the masses. A good script, well filmed, but nothing to say top ten movie.

    There's no filmaking to view.

I'm sorry but you clearly have no understanding of film to even make such a bland statement. The fact that the movie to you looks like an exercise in boring choices is because they are oblivious to you (which in all honesty good lighting, shot selection, editing, etc. should be).

Shawshank has a lot of filmic qualities. First off the cinematography which is amazing and even the cinematographer was flattered that most people thought the movie was entirely shot in natural lighting when that wasn't the case. Second, the shot selections and camera movements of which there are plenty of effective examples. For instance the introduction to Red's parole hearings or the roof tarring scene:

Third but not least, the editing. This is still a film that encompasses a 20 year time period and does it effortlessly, without dropping a beat and shifting gears when we leave the 50s and enter the 60s. I believe it was mostly shot chronologically which is also a rarity.

I do like that movie. I suppose I just like more subtle or grittier crime movies with funkier dialogue.

To each their own. Pulp Fiction came out the same year. While I absolutely loath that movie for causing brain damage to a generation of filmmakers who loaded their movies with white gangsters and bad dialogue, I do recognise its staying power but it's a movie I can't be bothered to sit through again.

But it's King so it's very middle America tv movie which a motel 6 appeal. But not greatest movie of all time. There was a good one from him Sphere? It had the King script basics. So cans on the cabin table look cool.

In the case of Shawshank I'd dare to say it's Darabont. He took what is IMO a rather forgettable King short story and turned it into an incredible screenplay and signed on with Caste Rock on the condition that they let him do the movie he wanted to make. That's a rarity these days.

I haven't read too many details. Do they know whether or not someone was actually driving the car when it hit him? Or had he just left it in neutral or something?

Apparently he was alone and the car was in neutral with the engine still running. He got out and it rolled backwards. The police detected no suspicious circumstances.

It has just been announced that Anton Yelchin, the new Checkov, died today in a car crash at age 27.

Saw the news as well, bit of a freak accident with him getting pinned between his car and his mailbox at his home (!).

Looking over his imdb, I had no idea he was also the kid in Hearts in Atlantis. Liked him a lot in the Fright Night remake and star trek of course. RIP.

It's probably okay but it winds up that's always no. 1. How can you watch it more than once is beyond me?

Really? You don't watch great movies more than once? There are many reasons why I want to experience a movie again. The story and the journey, the characters and performances, the dialogue, the music, the look, ... I feel Shawshank is a strong cathartic movie and so there's a bit of a feel good element in revisiting it and its message of hope. Also, a lot times when I revisit stuff it's often with a different perspective. And I'm also one of the few people who will rewatch the movie with the audio commentary ;)

  14. Watched Graham Norton show last night with the new cast.

    Couple of things became more clear than ever for me as I watched them sit there;

This is a chick flick; let me explain. Everything from the way these actresses try to act funny and hang out feels like it's a girls' night out to the clips of the movie they showed; it all carried over that vibe of a girls' night out and totally fell flat for me. Seeing the ecto-1 appear in its pink version and the reaction of the cast as well as having them drool over Chris Hemsworth and his role in the movie. This is a chick flick.

Do I have a problem with women being Ghostbusters? Absolutely not! I would have looooooooved to have seen Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Whitney Cummings and even Lisa Lampanelli (if she was still fat) play the new Ghostbusters and I'm sure it wouldn't have just been a predictable chick flick with cutesy and 'safe' humour.

This cast of McCarthy and I don't even know the names of the others feels so bland, safe, reserved, nervous and unfunny and where I feel the problem truly lies: too scripted. The benefit of having a Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis or any of the aforementioned women is that they can take the screenplay and riff on the material. The cast that is in this new movie of actresses and second tier SNL gals can't offer anything better than what's written on the page. This is too apparent from the way they are forcing this group upon the fans through a massive marketing campaign that somehow has to make up for the bad chemistry and unfunny material.

Right well when you get to the point of calling them pathetic thats when you get a 'well fuck you too then' and achieve nothing, this is exactly what i meant, the aggressive condescending approach achieves nothing and leaves one wondering what your intention here is, it appears to be just coming across as all 'right on'.  I didnt say you were a big dick or had a big dick, i said your central preoccupation is coming off like you are the big dick in the room, something usually done by people with little ones :D

Now I know you must be hacking my phone! Stop it. ;)

For example, a muslim imam to accept that shit, have you any idea how seismic that is?  But instead of taking that on board you were kinda narky about it, now that doesn't serve the cause of progress, all that does is get peoples backs up and makes it look like your central preoccupation is more centred around you being the big dick in the room rather than being pleased about something that is actually quite a leap. Dont get me wrong Bumble, Im not saying that is the case with you you understand, just saying.

I don't find that seismic. I find that pathetic that both 'religious' men beat around the bush and didn't even accept the notion of someone being 'gay' as a reality lol in this day and age. You can call me a big dick for questioning that Imam's sincerity, but the truth is that you wont see him say before his congregation. And I'm aware that progress needs to be made and it works all so slow, I'm just shocked that with even the most moderate and progressive voices, there exists this impenetrable wall. The interview in question did get a lot of backlash (thankfully) so who knows some change will come of it.

And how did you know I have a big dick? Are you hacking my phone?
