  1. Rose: I originally wanted to make a traditional record or try to get back to an "Appetite [For Destruction]" thing or something, because that would have been a lot easier for me to do. I was involved in a lot of lawsuits for Guns N' Roses and in my own personal life, so I didn't have a lot of time to try and develop a new style or re-invent myself, so I was hoping to write a traditional thing, but I was not really allowed to do that.
Loder: What prevented you from doing, like, a traditional rock record?
    Rose: Slash.

he's talking about after the breakup. he couldn't evolve because of his issues but he couldn't make AFD without slash. that's all. nothing about breakup.

  3. I remember years ago watching Slash on tv here in Australia - many years after Slash had left the band. I think it was Letterman? Anyway he was talking about the story where Axl jumped out of the moving car when Slash was driving and all because Slash asked him to be nicer to his Grandmother or something? Anyway I got the feeling at the time watching it that Slash was just talking about a funny story back in the day but Letterman was portraying Axl as a crazy dude. I guess Slash innocently recounting a funny story from the past would easily be misconstrued by Axl as a personal attack as Axl seems to have problems with people being against him. Axl would probably be taking it as an insult that someone is talking about him in public and thinking how disloyal Slash is. Would this seem right Marc? Is that the sort of little thing that Axl would take great offence from?

Axl seems very sensitive to anything like this and I suppose he has major trust issues dating back to his childhood. ???

telling that story is actually one of the few times when i think slash crossed the line when talking about axl. i can see anyone being bothered when their former friends talk about their crazy behavior on tv.

  4. The problem is Slash was very upset with how things turned out between them and ran his mouth venting and saying a bunch of crap about how Axl fucked up the band. The truth is he should apologize for talking shit about Axl because in the end it was just the fact that they had different ideas for what GNR was going to do next. Axl stayed quiet for a while and built up a lot of anger and blamed Slash for not going along with what Axl's plans were and of corse was upset on how Slash was putting all the blame on Axl and the press was buying it. Slash got over it but Axl is still holding on to it.

I feel like Slash basically did apologize a couple times (on Letterman, on Piers Morgan) for comments he had made after leaving the band. As close to an apology as he could do without coming across desperate for a reunion, anyway. Do you think he should be more explicit with his apology and say sorry directly to Axl?

seriously how many people heard that and how many interpret it as it wasn't all axl's fault? axl want people to stop blaming him for the break up and it's not going to happen. slash won't apologize directly and there's axl being late, continuing the band on his own and general acting like an ahole.

  5. so slash planed to quit and make axl realize he couldn't do it his way then come back? or did he realize he couldn't repeat guns success on his own?

    Both

is that part of his problem with slash? i can't see axl responds well to blackmail.

what did axl exactly want slash to apologize for? like he wanted slash saying in an interview that he was wrong about some things or did he want a full detailed apology directed to himself?

  6. I thought they just both needed to do one record with out each other and then they would be ready to work together again, It was true for Slash but not for Axl.

if that was the case why did he quit instead of just stopping things for a while?

Because Axl had turned GNR into a dictatorship and wouldn't let people have their own ideas. So Slash smartly (unlike the hired Guns today) stood up for himself and said "fuck this, I have enough fame and talent at this point to go off on my own and be happy, instead of pleasing Sir Axl Rose." Its too bad, but thats what Axl was at that point, and no one's had the balls to stand up to him since.

he could stand up for himself without leaving the band. axl clearly wanted slash in the band so i'm sure he would come to terms with what slash wanted to keep him there.

this is why i blame slash more than axl. not because i believe axl was easy to deal with because Chinese democracy thing showed that he can be highly dysfunctional in personal life and career. slash on the other hand is a normal guy with a good working attitude. all he needed to do was to stick around, take a break, take control of his alcohol problem and try to communicate with axl. we would still have guns n roses. maybe he did the thing that was right for him but he still had as much part as axl in the break up.

  7. even in 91 his arms were a little thin and he was a little thick around the waist although he was very fit. it's his body type. in 2001 when beta said he worked out 6 hours a day he had a big belly. in that case either he has some metabolism problem or he eats alot. 2006 was pretty good though.

  8. I think that after doing martial art and a lot of training from 1999 to at least 2007, axl has just (for the moment) decided that it was enough. he wants to enjoy food and beer and don't care for once in his life.

duff was the one who was doing martial arts not axl and minus his face he looks pretty good.

  9. no he doesn't have to like him. i think axl gets more than his share of blames for the break up witch is probably very frustrating for him. i'm sure gnr meant alot to him. maybe more than the others. but hating someone deeply years something has happened or blaming them for everything like Marc says axl does is unhealthy. although that is probably not even his main problem. guy needs to see a psychologist.

  10. 2 threads so Ill just copy what I wrote in the other one :nervous:

Fuck this band, man. Its getting so discouraging...

    Speaking just on "nu"GNR

Ill always love the GNR shows I have seen from 2010 and Ill continue to see them when they come because I love this "band" but fuck this. Axl fought so hard to keep this stupid name and he has one album to show for it in 20 years. Think about that, that is just baffling. And let this one sink in... Chinese Democracy came out 5 YEARS AGO. It has been half a decade since it finally hit shelves and we have no word on new material. You can argue that its been like that for bands like Metallica, Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc but it is not the same thing at all. We got one album in 14 years, then were told all this other material was recorded, and nothing. At least those other bands released material in those 14 years Axl did nothing. AC/DC is practically retired and comes out once- twice a decade for a new album and tour. But they earned that, they got 10 years on Axl and were always consistent. Same with Aerosmith, they released material on a semi regular basis and have been around since the early 70s. They deserve that legacy status and at least have they're classic line up and have nothing to prove. Axl fought like hell for his stupid band name and has seemed to creatively fizzle away instead of trying to build upon it. It is irrelevent how much I love Chinese Democracy, it is the principle of it that makes this so shitty.

And dont get me started on Metallica. Yeah, they haven't released an album in the last 5 years like GNR, but look at what they have done since. Went on a major world tour promoting their record, made their own festival which has seen two successful years in a row, organized a big 4 tour complete with a DVD, released an EP with Death Magnetic leftovers (seriously Axl, fuck you this isn't that hard to do. I know we have loads of Chinese left overs), released a full collaboration album, celebrated their anniversary with theater shows complete with past members joining them, were inducted to the hall of fame too and had Newsted jam with them, and right now they are making a fucking full length and major release movie. All the while they are updating fans on a regular basis on what their plans on for a new album. What the fuck... GNR has literally just toured 3 years playing a similar show with a few new songs sprinkled in.

Im not saying GNR is completely useless... I think the shows overall since 2009 have been stellar. They have added some great songs in like Civil War and Estranged, played a bit with Izzy and Duff, had a great club tour for USA fans, and the Vegas residency. That is all great, good job GNR. But the new music situation has really brought things to a dark age again. Shows have become "cash grab, nostalgia tours" even if they are fantastic. We have no direction or future for where this band is going. I feel especially bad for Ron and the rest of the guys. Sure, they are getting paid and are in a huge band but as an artist, that has got to be really, really hard. Especially with all the talent and potential this group of musicians has together.

And Im sure there is legal crap blah blah blah but not to this extent. No legal thing can prevent Axl from getting in a room with these guys and just playing. Having fun, jamming, and bouncing ideas back and forth. He hasnt done that, it is almost like he doesnt care. Where did this guy's fire go? He used to be a crazy perfectionist always in search of new, great music. I don't see that in him anymore and it's sad. I still think he has immense talent, overall performs well (yeah, his voice isnt nearly as good though but I don't think it is bad yet), and I'll always think Axl is awesome, but this is still so sad to see.

sad thing is he's been like this for at least a decade it's not going to change anytime soon. if he didn't have the guts yo carry the name on his own he should have spared himself the trouble and went solo years ago.

maybe this not caring is a good thing for him personally. some faze he has to go through. but in the mean time he should stop screwing with gnr.
