  1. Frank kind of looks like Myles in a way. And he also plays a Firebird too, so he gets a thumbs up in my book.

I don't think Slash is looking for an Izzy though, he's just looking for a competent rhythm guitarist, no more no less. He's not one to do a dual lead thing like he did with Zak Wylde during their Voodoo Child cover in '94. He's the star of the show.

  2. Apparently Slash has a rhythm guitarist in his band. This is the first I've ever heard of such a subject. How long has he been in the band?

Is he a good player? How does he compare to say...Gilby Clarke? I really think Gilby should have joined the band. I have a soft spot for him and it'd get him out of the mediocrity he's been in since he got the boot.

  3. I don't see Frusciante having the patience to deal with GNR.

My vote has always been for John Sykes. Very talented, heavy player with a pretty distinguished background for bands like Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake. Only problem is that he kinda takes control of whatever project he's in and may not be the best fit personality wise. I'd see him working great with Richard, but he'd probably shame DJ off of the stage.

  4. Frank = By far, the worst drummer Gn'R ever had..

Agreed. I'll never see why people think Matt is the worst drummer. Frank's playing is so stale.

But that aside, it's not like the possibility of a few members leaving is even big news anymore. GNR doesn't really have any artistic relevancy in my eyes at all. CD was meh and CD II (If it ever gets released at all) will be meh too. It's obvious that all of the members are just in it for the money; All of them (Save for Frank and Pitman) have other ventures in which they express their true musical chops. Richard and Dizzy are in the Dead Daises, Assba is in Sixx A:M, Tommy's back with the Replacements and BBF has a solo career nobody cares about. If they leave, Axl will just find other people he can pay to fill in the spaces. It's a fucking joke.

GNR should either have a full-blown reunion or adjust their lineup into something that's actually worthwhile. If Frank and Tommy were to leave, I'd love to see Duff and Matt/Brain come back into the fold. I'd also give Ashba and Pitman the axe and let BBF and Richard do a dual-guitar lead.

Oh I guess I'm back by the way. I got logged out of the forum and I was too lazy to find my login credentials again.

  5. Nobody will take the band seriously if they name the fucking album, "Legend of the Red Panda" (Well, they don't now anyways).

CD II is the most logical name, if they're feeling cocky a self-titled album would work, but I don't have high hopes for the album.

  6. For me, these two albums were a big letdown:

    Oh, and this as well:

Usually love Drowning Pool in all their different incarnations, but this album sucked.

I wouldn't say Lazaretto sucked but I think it's a step down from Blunderbuss. I think the album really tips downward after High Ball Stepper. Three Women and Lazaretto are some of his best songs though. 3.5/5 Disappointed, but not unbearable.

  7. Uhh I'm pretty bad with dates so here's what I've seen, no order or venue:

    1) J. Roddy Walston and the Business

    2) Wolfmother

    3) Rod Stewart

    4) Chris Robinson Brotherhood

    5) Billy Joel

Concerts that I plan on seeing this year:

    1) Paul McCartney

    2) Black Keys

    3) St. Paul and the Broken Bones

    4) Jack White/Sharon Jones/others at Forecastle (Saturday)

  8. In my musical research, I've consistently seen Rival Sons heralded as the modern Zeppelin. I don't really agree with that statement, but nonethelessI picked up Great Western Valkyrie yesterday and I'm digging the hell out of it.

My quest for finding new Zeppelin-esque bands continue though. And aside from Rival Sons, I've also found Parlor Mob and The Answer. I'll be breaking into them soon enough. Any other suggestions?

  9. I'll probably look up Sharon Jones, I'm going to go see St. Paul and the Broken Bones (Another soul revival band) the night before, so why not?

That and maybe Spanish Gold, I dug their debut.

I am actually just about to drive over to the venue to see him play tonight! I saw him with The Dead Weather a couple of times and he was really good

Tell me how it is friend!

  10. Alright you delicious people,

I'm really into Jack White. I have a majority of the White Stripes albums and Blunderbuss. I also picked up Lazaretto today and I'm digging it.

I happen to live near Louisville, where Forecastle is going on next month. Jack is headlining there on the second day, but in order to see him, I gotta buy a one day pass and there's no other people I'm really interested in seeing on that day either.

The pass is $85.00, which means I'm paying $85.00 to see him. What do you think I should do? He's not going to be coming to Louisville for a long time, and I don't have to means to drive to a bigger city to see him elsewhere.

  11. A Greatest Hits should be songs that charted in the top 40 and the edited down single versions. If they want to do a collection/anthology where they're pulling together live and rare versions, that's a whole other matter. Jeff Buckley had a compilation but they didn't call it a "Greatest Hits" because he only had one single that charted and one album released while he was alive. AC/DC have never had a greatest hits even though it probably would do well if they released it.

I actually saw a Playlist Greatest Hits comp for Jeff Buckley the last time I went to Best Buy. It's still a bunch of shit though, just get Grace and you're all set. And if AC/DC did a two-disc comp (1 disc Bon and the other Brian), it'd sell millions in a heartbeat.

I still think GNR would do well for a 2-disc "Best Of". My tracklist would probably be (Not sequenced, naming them straight off the album):

    Disc 1:

    1) WTTJ

    2) It's So Easy

    3) Nightrain

    4) Mr. Brownstone

    5) Paradise City

    6) SCOM

    7) Rocket Queen

    8) Used to Love Her

    9) Patience

    Disc 2:

    1) Don't Cry

    2) Live and Let Die

    3) November Rain

    4) Dead Horse

(I'd also add You Ain't the First, Bad Obsession, Garden of Eden and one of the Izzy tracks off UYI I, but that's just me)

    5) Civil War

    6) 14 Years

    7) Yesterdays

    8) KOHD (Live Tokyo Dome '92, the studio version is terrible)

    9) Estranged

    10) YCBM

(Deliberating between Pretty Tied Up, Breakdown and Locomotive)

    11) Ain't It Fun

    12) Since I Don't Have You

(I'd probably tack on Better, but honestly the mainstream buyer couldn't give a shit about CD)

I can understand taking songs GNR picked themselves for some sort of anthology.

The only thing about a Greatest Hits is that it introduces people to GNR that never heard them before, but it doesn't really represent GNR the way AFD does from beginning to end or how "colossal" UYI was if you listen to it all at one time. But I'm sure Slash, Duff, and Axl would love to see AFD as one of the best selling albums of all time instead of Greatest Hits. What would have been interesting is if UYI never had covers and TSI would have had KOHD and LALD.

I think it's time for an Anthology from 1987-1993, preferably with Pitman overdubbed on every track playing tambourine.

I think the real question though is if the sequencing of such a compilation be chronological or not. I could imagine the first "Gun" disc representing their pre-UYI work, which is pretty much straight-on rock n' roll while the second "Rose" disc representing their more produced (And tender?) side. Although it makes a lot more sense to mix it up since the 2nd disc wouldn't be an easy listen if it was all UYI-onwards material.

  13. I saw Frank in a long interview awhile back and he seemed like a really, really genuine, nice and sweet guy. Not sure why he gets so much hate around here.

I don't remember the exact comment but the interviewer asked him something like who would be the drummer on the next GnR album - Frank or his son. Frank laughed for about five minutes straight.

He doesn't have the rock-star ego, loves music and seems like a really friendly guy. I'd much rather hang out and hear his stories than hang with DJ or Dizzy or Tommy.

Oh yeah, Frank is a fantastic person. I don't like him because he's the worst drummer GNR has ever had.

As far as least favorite bandmates, I'd imagine it'd either be Ron for lashing out so much or Pitman (Quoting his interview in which he said Pitman would probably be the first to go).

And I guess DJ because he's a fucking tool.
