I just can’t see Axl committing to hunkering down to hammer out a legitimately “new” record in a timely manner at this point in his life. It almost goes against everything we’ve witnessed over the last 25 years. I just don’t see it, but I suppose stranger things have happened in human history.

I wonder if it has something to do with licensing issues, if it is indeed even true. I personally don't mind there being an "exclusive" song but we all know it's gonna be all over the internet once the vinyl is shipped.
It’s just utterly obnoxious that they’d not release such an anticipated track on the medium(s) that the vast majority of fans in 2023 consume music. I just can’t think that they’d be that tone deaf to do that.

I think Slash definitely elevated both Hard Skool and Absurd. Perhaps is (and was) piano driven. You can prefer Robin’s style, but his solo wasn’t anything over the top creative like what he did on other songs in that era.
I think The General will be a good opportunity for Slash to lay down something special.

I wonder if they’re just planning to drop it digitally the same week the physical record ships in late October to maximize those sales. I keep trying to understand the logic in *not* releasing it digitally and keeping coming to the same conclusion that it simply makes zero sense.

If there’s really only two tracks left “in the can” after The General, one will almost certainly be Atlas. The big question is what will that 6th track be. You’d hope they picked it based on whether Slash and Duff could/have elevated it with their sound(s). I’m hoping it’s Oklahoma/Berlin, but certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if it’s Soul Monster.

The sources are dogshit, but it would go along with what Fortus just said about them clearing out what’s already in the can before recording new stuff. We’ll see soon enough.

I’m going to take a forum sabbatical after everyone has heard The General. I was pretty bummed reading some of the negative feedback on Absurd, HS and Perhaps
I’m so easy to please I’m very confident I’m going to dig it.
Oh same here. I’ll wait a good bit before checking in to see all the usual suspects blather on about whatever minute issues they have with the mix that completely ruins the song for them.

It's the mystery around it and how long it took.
BlackBerry Smoke is releasing a new album and I'm like "ok, nice, I'll check it out when it becomes available" and that's it. BUT usually they do release some great songs which I enjoy, sometimes even more than with GNR.
But just imagine the sheer time I've been reading about The General. I joined this forum in 2007 (!) and before that I was already lurking on HTGTH.
It's crazy.
After all this time I just want to hear the truth, quite literally. We've all been reading about the vault. The General is part of that mystique.
It better not suck
I remember vividly talking about it when it was first mentioned to a buddy of mine my senior year of high school circa 2003 after it was first mentioned by Marco Beltrami. I turn 38 in November. Life is funny!

The final cover is much better!
So much! Was worried it’d be some variation of the tongue again, which though an invaluable marketing tool has been leaned into a bit too much in recent years.
The new tune is great, and LOVE that it has a Keef solo.

GNR releasing The General with Slash, and a new Stones album. Fall 2023 wins.

I’ve been thinking about how many of us are regarding the release of The General with the same level of excitement that fans of other bands have for full a length LP release. They really don’t deserve us. 😆

I had a feeling The General marked the end of an era. Hopefully the rumors of them hunkering down to put together an album are true and that’s the main reason for an extended hiatus.

Yeah I have no issue with the mixes. Some people are sound nerds and it means exponentially more to them when something hits their ears a certain way.

Can someone on GNR Reddit ask @Fernando to confirm/deny that The General will not get a digital release? Seems like the only place he posts these days.

It would be cool as hell if The General gets the How are you grenade CD cover C as the artwork.
That would actually be really, really cool.

“The General is a monster.” -Fernando
Doesn’t sound like a song they’re *not* looking to promote.

again when you put "the general" it said the artiste is GNR on spotify.
Yeah The General immediately pulls up GNR and Perhaps in all categories so hopefully that’s a good sign of an imminent digital release.

It will be ripped and widely available for free online the moment the vinyls ship, so not releasing it digitally or on streaming means they're forgoing additional money and good publicity for no reason. It would make no sense.
In other words, it seems there's a decent chance this rumor is true
Exactly. I’m not sure I put much stock in it not being the case on the grounds of it “not making sense” considering the operation in question.

It will def be on streaming lol
It’s a revenue stream they’d be missing out on for sure, so I’m struggling to understand the why behind *not* releasing it digitally.

Apparently we won't be getting the Song on streaming devices. (they were also the ones who knew about perhaps being pushed back a week)
Now why the fuck would they do that? 😒
"The General" is officially delayed... but "The General" AND "Monsters" is (unofficially) out of the bag

You’re not wrong in that it’s certainly nothing new to throw exclusive tracks on physical copies. I think the annoyance comes from the idea that, while you and I might love our vinyl and see it as special, the vast majority of fans in 2023 consume their music digitally and they’d be left scrambling for ripped YouTube videos that would likely be pulled off quickly anyway.
