  1. Here's the fark headline for the story. Slight correction, by the way - it hits the main page at 7:24 PM Eastern time.

(Fox6) Unlikely Guns N' Roses to release Chinese Democracy next month. Limited collectors edition will be bundled with Nuke Nukem Forever

Farkers have clicked on the above link 48 times

This article will post to the main page on Mon, 13 Feb 2006 at 7:24 PM

(the 'unlikely' is the tag assigned to the story.. more than likely by whoever submitted the story to fark)

  2. Perhaps someone with the right press connections can give the club a call and get a statement? I mean, the two owners names are right there in the article. Heck, even just a blanket denial or admittance to the story would be more than we have at the moment. If it did happen, its already apparent someone's talking about it - because otherwise, there'd be no article written.

Here's the text of the story:

    MUSICAL BRIBE

STEREO nightclub owners Barry Mullineaux and Mike Satsky were closing up their Chelsea hotspot at 5:30 a.m. the other morning when they encountered elusive Guns 'N' Roses frontman Axl Rose at the front door. The braided rocker was with bandmates and a bevy of beauties wanting to keep his 44th birthday bash going. Rose was so eager to get inside the club that he offered the owners a little bribe - an exclusive listening party for his yet-to-be released album, "Chinese Democracy." Axl dispatched his driver to retrieve the unreleased CD and the owners proceeded to play host, bartender and DJ to the posse till 8 a.m.

  4. Well he said "Some newspapers here" in, I'm assuming, Italy.

Any possibility of a scan? I'm sure we have members who can read / translate Italian.

Or, even a paper name - chances are they have an online edition, as well - with presumably the same info.

  5. Instead of turning this into some big Pro / Anti Slash thread (which I just don't get, but whatever), lets try to examine the facts, instead?

    A. This is definitely a different quote than the one used on WMMR(?) radio in December. The content is similiar, yes - but the wording is different.

    B. This now makes two times Slash has said March.

    C. *IF* Slash's words of praise for Axl are genuine (which I feel they are) I can't see him intentionally misleading anyone about what be believes the release date to be.

    D. Slash has contacts within the industry, obviously. Also, remember, he maintains a financial interest in "Guns n' Roses" the business entity - which would mean that he would be privy to certain information.. yes, even involving future releases. (mainly because said future releases could help either bolster or further dilute the back catalog - which makes his financial stake an issue)

    E. If the album is released by the end of March, then it falls within the first quarter of the year. There could be numerous financial reasons for this to occur, as well. For all we know, somebody's $25,000 bonus is tied to a successful Chinese Democracy release before March 31, 2006. Remember, for everything we know - there's 8,000% more that we don't.

    F. The red headed recluse has popped out in public what, 3 times now in the last month that we know of? Of which he's been photographed at twice? Sorry - people don't change their normal pattern of behavior so quickly and radically unless there's an underlying motivation for it. In my opinion, its the beginning of image rebuilding. Which ties into point G.

    G. Always, always, ALWAYS look at the money angle - because, trust me, it helps explain alot. You don't spend money on a press release about your lawsuit against a car dealer unless you're worried about people's perception of you. You're usually only worried about that (when you haven't typically shown that type of behavior) when you feel you might have something to promote. Money is the key here. Money is the one thing that, if it ever happens, will cause a 'Reunion' to occur. Money is what's going to get this album out. Money is what makes guys like Fortus and Stinson stick around even though they're really not doing much at the moment. Money and the EXPECTATION of money once there's a release.

    H. March 28, 2006 - thats my bet on the 'release date' pool and I'm sticking to it. Not saying its a fact - just saying its what I believe given all current available info. We shall see.

  6. One thing you're going to learn (and apparently, the hard way, would be my guess) is that message boards are not democratic societies. They are basically dictatorships with rules. Now, in this case, I think the mods here are pretty lenient with what they'll let slide and what they won't. Bottom line is, you've posted private communications between yourself and her - and that's not only a major violation of the rules, it also shows that you're a less than trustworthy person. Basically, you've done it to give your argument weight that, frankly, it doesn't have. Trust me when I tell you this, seriously, TRUST me when I say this - Jarmo would have done the same thing to your thread, if not done worse to you, directly.

Sometimes, its not what we say that bugs people, but how we say it. A bit of finesse and flair goes a long way into getting a thread that might otherwise be declared "uhh, no way we're letting this stay up" into not only being up, but being one of the most read. Keep that in mind next time you want to present a somewhat.. not popular opinion on something. Make it interesting and I think you'd be alot better off.

Madison: It appears he was venting his frustration here - obviously not in a good way, but I would say that, in reading his post, he just seems aggravated, and not directly angry at you. I'd ask that you take that into consideration when considering what actions, if any to take, in regards to him. This is why people should never allow their emotions to get the better of them. They're just chemical reactions in your brain, people - if you're going to let two chemicals mixing get the better of you, then I'm sorry, nothing I can do there.

  7. Get Off Axl's back,

My letter was four lines long. If you really wanted to, you could ask the same question in two lines. If he chooses not to answer, then so be it. I just think that allowing him so much wiggle room is giving him the flexibility he needs to, basically, not really answer a question.

He's had non-commital responses before, its not the first time.

    -darknemus

  8. nemus you really think he's gonna tell you that?

No - but at least he can't freaking weasel to an answer that means nothing, that way.

I mean, fuck it, if you've decided "I'm going to email him" - then you might as well make it count. If he comes back with a 'no comment' then you know you've A. rattled him a bit, and B. Probably hit really damn close to the truth.

  9. Has anyone considered the possibility that, in all seriousness, the album is no longer called 'Chinese Democracy'?

If that were to be the case, well then, it would render Merck's answer 100% honest, and yet, 100% not forthcoming with information. Catch my drift? This is just a thought, mind you - but anything's possible.

In all seriousness, it seems like no one ever really words things right when it comes to sending mails to Mr. Mouritadis (or however its spelled, sue me)

Here's a sample letter to try.

    Merck,

At http://www.stirling-sound.com , George Marino, "Senior Mastering Engineer" has listed a Guns n' Roses project he was apparently handed over on 11-17-05.

Is this project in any way tied into Axl's statement at the Korn listening party of "you'll hear music this year"? Is this project "Chinese Democracy" or whatever the long awaited new Guns n' Roses album might be titled? If this is NOT related to the new Guns n' Roses album, then what could it be? Is Mr. Marino misrepresenting your client and his wish for material to be released? Surely you must know something about this project sent to Mr. Marino for mastering purposes.

    -darknemus

  10. Yes, the AFD re-release is a possibility I hadn't considered. By re-release I mean the re-recorded version, with the new band. It seems unlikely, though - unless its a 'buy time' release until CD comes out.

    -darknemus

  11. My guess is Merck can say little to nothing about this. I have a stinking feeling he wouldn't outright deny it, though. Similiar to what he did with the Da Vinci code rumor.

Bottom line is I'm betting this guy posted this on his site because, well, to him, its just another project to master. Its not like he, himself, said "wow, let me fuck with GNR fans" - he just views it as another paycheck. Its obvious he pretty much treats all projects the same way. Lists em, does them, and thats the end of it.

No ulterior motive there, that's for sure. Only other possibility is that its a GH II type of mastering, in which case I don't think the timing works out.

If he was handed the product on Nov. 17th, and GH II was supposedly set for release Dec 26, 2005 - then we have basically 41 days to allow for mastering, duping, & releasing. I just don't think that works out, timing wise.

Plus, would they REALLY bring in this amazing sound engineer on a re-release? Doesn't make much financial sense, either, for a company (Geffen) who wants to maximize profit on a release to bring in Mr. super sound engineer to make Welcome to the Jungle sound a teeny bit better.

    -darknemus

  12. Well, I certainly don't purport to be an expert on all things GNR - but I'd tend to believe this story.

Main reason being, its on the guy's website, and I don't really think you'd need alot of 'mastering' for a collection of Greatest Hits, considering, well, they've already been mastered.

(Unless they are remasters or something along those lines)

I feel that the red headed recluse popping out in public was such a staged event, its not even funny. So yes, I think that lends even more credence to this rumor. I'm going to chime in with "I believe it, until proved otherwise" for the time being.

Perhaps Madison has some additional insight or can do some squeezing of her sources to see if there's any fire to this smoke.

    -darknemus

  13. From my understanding, once an album is given over for mastering, there are no more changes to be made, period.

Someone with more information than myself can feel free to correct me on this, though.

    -darknemus

  14. I dunno if the story itself is true (but I doubt it) - but I highly doubt Leykis posted that. Look at the reply I posted below it (as Tom Leykis)

    -darknemus

no idea. my friend in los angeles just called me and told me

Your friend said he heard it on the radio or read it on that board? There's a BIG difference.

    -darknemus

  15. A. I seriously doubt Axl's showing up on Howie's show anytime soon

    B. The O&A / Howie history is pretty deep. Suffice to say, IN MY OPINION, O&A got screwed over bigtime by Howard and his.. strong arm tactics. So now, they fight back.

    C. Sirius ain't catching up to XM anytime soon, if they keep on putting out subpar equipment. The tech matters to the 95% of the people who could care less where O&A or Howard are (or even, more importantly, who they are)

    -darknemus

  16. I must say their rendition of NightTrain on the website is pretty damn good. The guy matches Axl's low voice almost perfectly. And his 'high voice' sounds pretty close to when Axl was having some of his .. less than perfect nights in 91 / 92. I could see mistaking the sound of these guys for the real thing - at least for a casual listener.
