  1. The reason there's nearly 100 people viewing this thread is because they want to read something relating to the band. Of course Fernando does not need my permission to shoot the shit, but lets not pretend the rest of us aren't here for one reason and one reason only: the status of GNR and new music.

I am here for the hilarious comments from forum members myself.

Though I have found Fernando is holding his own pretty well. Not overly well, but pretty well. He needs more practice and should come around more often.

(and accidentally let stuff slip without realizing it)

  2. Would I be upset if we never saw or heard from Axl again?

    No.

That sounds cold doesn't it? And I am an Axl fan who doesn't get embarrassed by strange hair styles or odd fashion senses and secretly or not so secretly cheer if he stayed out of sight. I would love for him to do tours and release albums. Make himself more public or whatever. But on the other hand... well his absence isn't going to affect my life in anyway.

  3. Realistically? I haven't a clue. I don't know enough about marketing and the music business to venture a guess at what would be the direction they should move in. The only guaranteed financially successful route would be a Reunion tour and that could possibly mean the actual complete end to GNR once the tour was over. Yeah, some fans would be all for that, but as a business organization that probably isn't a desired result.

A lot hinges on the attitudes of all the pieces involved. If say, Axl is at inner peace or bored with life and has no inspiration to write music then that will cut off some routes they could go in. If the label thinks CD2 is the worse thing ever invented and refuses to allow it to be released (until after Axl is dead and it will make a lot of money regardless of how amazing or awful it is) that cuts off another path. If Axl and Slash still can't stand to be in the same room, much less a stage together, that cuts off other routes.

I have tried to write more about how as a fan I think they should move, but really all it boils down to I haven't a clue what is going or not going on behind the scenes in GNR world and I am a reunionist at heart. I want Axl, Izzy, Duff, and Slash to write music together again. I don't even care about touring. But I also don't hate the newer GNR crew so I don't really want them dumped if they don't want to leave on their own. The only thing left from my failed attempt at plan is this: I am stupid fan so I'd shove all the left over scraps that came from making CD out on the internet on a streaming site or iTunes just to make back a little revenue from curious clicks rather than hoard them. I am talking all scraps even if it is just 4 notes strung together.

  4. I don't mind Myles on Mr. Brownstone (other videos, can't really hear him on this one). Mr. Brownstone is always near the top of my favorite songs list and as long as the vocalist gets the swing it makes me happy (I am easy to please when it comes to this song).

Then again, Myles also has the absolute worst rendition of the song I've ever heard and I've watched a lot of unprofessional covers of this song on youtube (what can I say, I love the song). The first time I decided to check out how Myles did on GNR songs I hit that horrible rendition. It had a weird sound and didn't have that swing (or whatever you call it, I suck at music terminology). It took me awhile to get over it and listen to anything he did again.

(as an aside: Weiland's covers of Mr. Brownstone were always too fast. )

  5. "Monkey #28 will be replaced by Monkey #29. Don't bother telling the retards, they'll never notice the difference any way".

That's what they think of GNR bandmembers and GNR fans. Prove me wrong.

You are wrong. It is Hat #236 will be replaced by Hat #237.

They don't really know what a "fan" is. Sometimes if they poke it with a tree branch money falls out, but they haven't quite figured out how it works really. Or what to do with them.

  6. I think Axl needs hire all new musicians and make a polka music. Then graciously agree to a reunion with every single past member of all incarnations of GNR as long as they play the polka music.

    It will be AMAZING!

    :P

In all actuality I am curious where, if anywhere this is going. I can see the arguments to all the sides: Nothing happening, something non reunion related happening and even the unlikely reunion thing. At least it livened up the boards for a minute.

  7. To be objective:

No he does not owe anything.

On the other side of that same coin fans don't owe him anything either.

He doesn't have be to be grateful and appreciative of fans just as fans don't have to be grateful and appreciative of him.

  8. What has it been like working with Axl Rose?

Axl has always been cool with me and he's a hell of a musician. Some people are just really musical. They just are music and he is music personified, he really is. He's just one of the cats that just lives it. He always thinks musically. He listens - which is what makes him a great musician. Music is all that matters to him. I've never met anyone with as much musical and artistic integrity as Axl Rose.

And here may lie the problem. Hiding in a hole playing with music all day is all well and good, but it would be nice if there was a little bit of desire to share the music with the world.

Did you play on The Dead Daisies song "Lock 'N' Load" with Slash?

No. That was recorded before I was in the band. I wouldn't do that out of respect to Axl. Not that he would make a big deal out of it. But after all the s--- that's gone down between those two guys it would be a real slap in the face. Slash wanted to sit in when I was with Thin Lizzy and I told Scott Gorham, the other guitar player, 'If Slash wants to sit in he can use my gear, my amp, and my guitars.' But just out of respect for my friend I can't stand on the same stage with Slash. And nobody asked me to do that, it's just a personal thing. And it's no slight to Slash, he's one of the greatest guitar players ever. I just can't do it out of respect for my friend [laughs].

I don't think this quote says anything about Axl at all. It shows that Fortus is compassionate and thinks about others. Some people just find it awkward to hang out with their friend's ex after a bitter nasty divorce full of hurt feelings. Even if has been a long time and the friend doesn't care one way or the other. (Not that I am saying I know what Axl's feelings are toward Slash- he could be anywhere from naming kittens after him to throwing darts at his picture everyday) What I am saying is that this gets Richard Fortus a tally mark in the plus column.

  9. I had a friend, she was in love with Axl's hair, but she dint know how Axl looks now, so I showed her a pic of Axl and she was shocked that wtf has happened to Axl.

Im just getting a feeling that are you the little Robot person?

I simply have an odd sense of humor. Luckily I usually delete what I write before I click the happy little Post button. Sometimes, like in this thread, I click the button before I hit delete.

But in all seriousness- he had some shiny, ultra healthy looking hair back in the day. All the hair talk that comes up made me notice it when I was looking up interviews.

    WTF happened to my thread?

All i wanted to know was had Axl been sighted this year lol

A simple "No" would be boring!

(I did have a rambly unserious paragraph relating the lack of Axl sightings to the inability for posters to stay on topic, but deleted it. You are welcome!)

  10. It is clear the obsession with Axl's hair began way back in the day when his luxurious locks were the envy of all. Women wished they had that shiny, perfect hair and men wished their women paid as much attention to them as that hair (and kind of wished their women's hair was half so awesome- not to mention their own hair). When Axl dropped out of sight it wasn't so much Axl that was missed, but his godly flowing locks. Since the hair was out of sight, rumors began that the hair was actually well and truly gone. The stages of grief set in for some, exuberance for others ( jealousy, you know, these people no longer had to compete with perfection). When Axl ventured back into the world, in cornrows no less, it was a shock. To those who wistfully admired the flowing locks were disturbed to see them bound up and tightly controlled. Those who were once jealous were in denial that the hair still existed in some form. This whole thing was such a tramatic event to people that it stuck in their mind and has become an obsession. Is it still real? Is it not? Is it the same? Is it thinner? Critical eyes stare at every image of Axl to try to determine what is going on with the hair. The hair that had once drew all eyes and many sighs. There is a growing number of people who just want Axl to let the hair do what it wants. "Stop hiding it," they say. Time goes by and just because the hair is no longer luscious as it once was does not mean that it should be hidden away. It has things that it can still give to the world. Others just wish they could have snipped a bit of it when it was at it's peak health and so could ignore what it has become.

And it has come to pass that Axl's hair will forever more be a conversation topic.

  11. Nobody said it had to be one or the other.

Ah, I misunderstood your comment. I paid more attention to the wording "You would rather..." than the question mark at the end. I did wonder if you meant more of a "Would you rather...?" but quickly dismissed it as I am a wordy person and that question wouldn't be as fun to answer. :shrugs:

To the rest of your comment that I am not quoting because I accidently erased it and am not going through the trouble of getting it back- I can't argue or debate it at the moment. Actually, I feel that I have to make a confession. I don't follow Axl on twitter. I keep up to date on his tweets by coming here. I don't have a twitter account so I don't bother keeping track of any twitter accounts unless it is through a fan community who does it for me. I understand the desire for an update comment, but I guess I am just a cynical person at heart though I claim to be an optimist. I don't think there are any updates.

  12. You would rather get pet updates as opposed to new album/band status updates?

    Is it an either/or option?

I too like pet pictures. I would be happy if there were more of them. I even prefer odd comments on current events (that doesn't matter to me at all) every few days rather than absolute silence. I just don't see liking random twitter updates being mutually exclusive to wanting updates on any progress that may or may not be occuring with the band. One doesn't prevent the other from happening.

However with that said, I now have a strange image in my head of a sign taped to Axl's computer stating "Axl's Twitter Rule: One somewhat status updating/personal tweet every six months" and him going "oops, was going to post something about the band, but posted a picture of my cat instead. Oh well, better luck next time."
