  1. I was reading online that this was a song Axl was working on and it was going to be a sequel to Estranged. Any truth to that?

Axl: Well, this comes out on the third record. It relates to [Estranged], it's a trilogy, this goes with this lyrically [Metal Edge, June 2007].

Thanks. Interesting to hear him comment on it. I really wish he'd release this stuff

According to MSL the vocals are the meanest and most heavy vocals we've heard from axl.

    Who is MSL?

  2. what was said? "you may have heard bits of it somewhere"

Starting as far back as 1999, Axl Rose told MTV that the new band had enough work to compose a double album and then in 2008, said that Guns N Roses had 32 songs they were working on. The General was one of many working album titles that Rose proposed but it was revealed by Rose's close friend Sebastian Bach that The General was originally intended to be the follow-up to the 1991 ballad "Estranged" and that it "had a heavy sound with screaming vocals." Chinese Democracy was released around this same time as the first in a trilogy of albums with the next slated for this year.

  3. If - and that's the most humongous "if" ever - there is any movement towards anything close to a reunion, even that will move in Axl pace. This year is lost, and probably most of 2016 too.

If there is any movement towards a reunion, with this year shot and the 30th anniversary of AFD's release impending, I'd imagine that is when a reunion of any sort will happen.

  4. Is it true Izzy tried to get back with the band in 95?

Yeah, there was a failed attempt if I remember correctly. I think Marc talked about it a little bit. Not sure if it was in 1995 but sounds right.

He didn't want to rejoin the band full time, he brought a lot of songs he had written to the table though for the band to work on in 1995 and throughout 1996. But he was not interested in being a fulltime member again. It started when Duff called him up in April 1995 asking for help writing new GN'R songs. He and Duff wrote a dozen in a week.

Awesome info. Thanks guys. These guys were brothers. You can see it in Izzy missing things and wanting to still be able to be part of the band to some extent after leaving.

  5. I don't blame Axl for saying something like Double Talkin Jive describes Izzy. I mean, I'm sure Axl was a nightmare, but every breakup between friends has 2 sides to the story

Got a problem? Here's the hot tip - don't play the song the man sang and wrote and especially don't make it the centerpiece of a concert for two years.

Double hot tip, if a guy writes and plays on a song have the bloody decency to turn his guitar up. I can't describe the idiocy of say, the mixing in Back of Bitch where Izzy plays the intro lead and then his rhythm track is an absolute whimper which gets slightly louder during the chorus.

I agree that instead of playing the track, choosing to not play the track would be more sincere in Axl's disapproval of Izzy, how he left, and why he left. But LOL @ Double Talking Jive being the centerpiece of the UYI tour

I just think it's an interesting nugget of information that Axl sees Izzy in the lyrics of Double Talkin Jive. Provides nice insight to how Axl perceived Izzy leaving the band

I don't blame Axl for saying something like Double Talkin Jive describes Izzy. I mean, I'm sure Axl was a nightmare, but every breakup between friends has 2 sides to the story

Interesting since Axl seems always to be the one who can't comprehend that there could be any side to the story but his own.

He made peace with Izzy, Duff, and Steven (at least at one point in the last 10 years). I'm sure Axl is extremely hard to deal with, but Slash is really the only classic lineup member we've never seen him work things out with. 3 out of 4 isn't bad.

I'm not even trying to defend him. But it's unfair to act like he can't get along with and has never tried to makeup with any of the classic lineup members

  6. With GNR's history of having periods of minimal to nonexistent activity taken in to consideration, if we were to entertain thoughts that something special was in the works for the 30th anniversary of AFD's release, wouldn't it make sense that things would be really quiet right now?

If a reunion, in any sense, is planned for AFD 30th anniversary, maybe thats why Axl continues to rarely be heard from and seen. Maybe thats why there seems to continue to be little progress made on a reunion happening right now. If Axl and Slash were to become publicly civil now, and then another fight happened, it could kill any classic lineup plans that may be in the works for AFDs 30th anniversary
