  1. Slightly offtopic perhaps, but do we have an indication they are going to extend NITL? I always assumed it would be done after the SA-leg in early 2020. We saw that one coming for quite some time (before it was announced) and I know some people mentioned Euro festivals, but that seemed more like wishful thinking.

They have reinstated / repaired their reputation as a live act with this tour, they should now focus on doing the same for their reputation as a recording artist. Make a decent album, and tour that for a few years.

There's a forum called efestivals and 2 guys that always have good inside info said AC/DC. Kusy and Ken19. You can check their history to see. Kusy called that Tool tour last year and Ken19 basically always leaks Rock Werchter stuff in advance

edit: they didn't say today it seems, maybe I mixed with some other fest I follow :D But they said Ac/Dc and I believe them

Last year Tool didnt go to Graspop in the end :P but yeah, I know the forum and there's usually some people with good info. Lets wait and see!

  3. Would be great but highly doubt it, Graspop doesnt have the greatest track record when it comes to booking the biggest bands in metal / hardrock, with GNR being the exception. Metallica, SOAD, Tool, Rammstein (I know they played there 2017, as they did the bigger festivals in 2016) usually go to Rock Werchter. I can see SOAD playing GMM now, as they seem to be doing a LOT of festivals, regardless of size / stature.

More shows this year it looks like. Seattle at the very least.

Nah that sounds like a solo show by Melissa, if the band would play more shows this year it would have been announced by now, unless it some sort of special one-off thingie like an awards show or fundraiser or whatever.

I dunno. I think he's just happy to be playing with his old buddies again which is why the tour is going on and on. I think he secretly wanted this the entire time. Just for them to be a gang again.

Sure :D If he just wanted to play with his buddies they wouldnt ask 100+ for a basic ticket. This is definitely about the money. Having plenty doesnt mean you dont want more, it's actually more the opposite.

  6. 2 songs into this;

Still behind my earlier opinion; he has no power, its very nasal, there's almost no difference in pitch (high/lows), on the second song he's struggling to keep up and if you look at his face it looks as if it just hurts to sing.

    Hang it up, JBJ.

That's exactly how I see things panning out. I'm already at the stage where all I see is a touring act really, and I consider myself a fairly optimistic fan.

We've been at the 'this will be just a few more shows, then I'm sure they'll get on to new material' point so many times now over the last couple of years.

Nah, Alter Bridge has a new release and Myles will be touring that for the most part of 2020, so I dont think we have to be afraid that SMKC will do stuff in (at least) the beginning of 2020.

There are probably 100 viable drummers that would jump at the chance and fit the band's style better.

I doubt it. Its not only about the drumming itself, but also about knowing the catalog, and being able to make yourself available to the band's shenanigans. Which can either be nothing for years and then suddenly touring around the world for 2 - 3 years straight.

couldn't give less fuck if Mel or Frank or Fortus are in the band.

Fun fact Frank's contract expires 2020 and the last time Ax reshuffled band was after the Vegas gigs.

Fortus and Mel contracts also probably run till 2020.

He would have nothing to gain from a reshuffle. I can see someone like Melissa leaving, as I dont think the casual fans would care / notice, although according to people in the know / pretending to be in the know she contributes a great deal to the sound.

4tus seems to be settled for life if he wishes, I think Axl is very happy with him and doesnt let an opportunity go to waste to let everybody know that he's been in GNR for almost 18 years.

And I dont see why you should fire Frank, sure some people dislike his style. But what is there to gain? Its not like there is another drummer readily available who can play the catalogue and doesn't mind keeping himself available for whenever the GNR train starts rolling again.

So like... what the fuck happened?

Yeah, I was asking myself the same thing a while back. It went really REALLY silent, where there was a lot of gossip and rumors before.

Then again; this was also a classic example of something stemming from one source but being dragged all over the internet so it somehow seems to be credible.

What else can he do but try his best? Not try? Phone it in like some singers out there?

Listen to this clip, he's struggling so hard but doing the best he can performing a very difficult song, especially in the chorus, and it's not great, there isn't a lot of power left, but he's doing it because he knows the fans want to hear it, being one of their biggest hits and a crowd favourite. And I don't think he's doing a terrible job, meaning that he isn't singing out of tune or phoning it in, especially considering how hard this song is and his voice isn't what it used to be. If this isn't good enough for you, fine, then don't buy a ticket.

Well how about quit, or be upfront and say 'hey guys, sorry, I cant do the old songs anymore, so from this tour onwards its just gonna be the newer stuff. K srry love u bai JBJ'.

If you hire a guy to paint your walls, and he does a crappy job, are you gonna have the same attitude? 'Oh well, he did his best'.

People pay top $/€ for this shit, if you're not up to it anymore; quit or be honest about it.

His Werchter performance was UTTERLY CRAPPY. He hasn't once apologized or acknowledged or said 'Hey guys, I'm sorry, I have a bit of a throat infection, how about you sing a bit extra loud today? Together we can do it!'. NOT ONCE.

You probably went to a Dutch show then, right? Dutch people are assholes.

But seriously, I just listened to a couple of clips after reading that guy's reaction, and yes, his voice is far from what it used to be, but it wasn't ''unlistenable'' either. The thing is... Bon Jovi songs are not easy vocal wise, and a lot of them have very high notes. Even back in the day when he was a superb singer he would have trouble reaching some of those high notes. I suppose they could decide to stop playing those songs and only play the easier songs, but a lot of the songs people want to hear have those high notes, so they play them and you hear him struggling but still giving everything he has got. I think a lot of people appreciate that and most of them, also reading a few of the youtube comments from people who had been to that show, seem to be positive. When you go there expecting to hear 1995 Jon Bon Jovi you're probably in for a disappointment, though.

    Nope, Belgium.

And I dont expect a '1995 JBJ', I expect somebody who charges 90€+ to do more than just 'try'.

Oh come on, stop exaggerating. I am listening to another clip right now from this tour and it's not as bad as you're making it out to be and the audience seems to be having a blast. If they don't mind his voice ain't what it used to be, then why do you care..

I've been to one of the recent shows, and it was horrible. People started leaving a few songs into the set, and people who didnt know each other were kinda questioning one another 'is it just me or does he sound like crap?'.

Sure, there'll always be the die-hard fans that will be up front having a blast, especially since he was playing places he hasn't been for years. But honestly, it was a total shitshow.

And sure, he might have had a cold or throat infection or whatever, but you can at least apologize (or cancel/postpone if its really bad) and tell the crowd about it, but he didnt, which lead me to believe this is just how it is nowadays.

He could do it like Duff, just say that it's his story, how he experienced it. I don't want him arguing stories from other band members books or business details. I'd just like to hear his side of it all, his side of the GNR story, and of his own.

Or do it like Bruce Dickinson, who left all the women, drugs and children out of his book. Which to me, as a huge Iron Maiden fan, made it kinda boring and was like 'lets read 250 pages about Bruce and all his hobbies'. Definitely interesting at times and there's insight into how Maiden is run to some extent, but other than that; probably the most boring official autobiography by a member of huge rock/metal band.

On the subject of writing credits; I wonder if Slash and Duff are comfortable releasing an album where some, if not most, of the songs are written by Finckk, Tobias, etc.

agreeing to play songs from them live is one thing, but releasing “new” songs where the writing credits go to those guys, instead of themselves? I imagine that would feel at least a little weird for them.

Wasnt there a story that the guys who worked on those tracks kinda got paid-off and waivered their rights? Or was just regarding the contracts that prohibits them to talk to press about inner GNR workings.

  16. Yeah not gonna happen. I was hoping this for a long, long time. VR still is one of my all time favs. But with the reunion, Slash having success with SMKC as his solo band and Duff also venturing into other terrorities its just not gonna happen.

Like someone said in this topic, I think it was also kinda setup as an act against NuGNR or to offer an alternative, that 'need' is now gone as well. Its a shame, I really liked Dave and the vibe he brought. But I dont think Slash and Duff will look back at it with a lot of happy thought. Lots of hassle with Scott, both guys had a relapse into addiction.

I was at the last show in Amsterdam. Well, until they did the kinda one-off 'reunion' with Scott.

This i agree with. I think they should have stuck with the keep the faith type lyrics and sound. The country shit could have been left to a jbj solo album.

Im listening to def leppards on through the night album and its embarassing how pussifed they become now.

I thought it sold well in North- and South America, I think for a large part the 'casual fans' here in Europe (and yep; I'm one of those) kinda lost interest after Have A Nice Day / Lost Highway. You could argue that the two title tracks of those albums had some airplay, but after that it went completely silent in terms of airplay and general interest. Reason they are still playing 50/60k+ venues here is because they haven't toured here for 6 years and in some countries (like The Netherlands for example) even 9 years.

I highly doubt they will play the same venues if they would return in 2 - 3 years and its just another regular album tour instead of something special like the return of Sambora or a 'greatest hits' / certain album/period tour.
