I think Slash was very very nervous. Shy dude. No matter how much of a legend you are, 23 freaking years is a long time.

Throw in the later start and he was probably a bit tired. Probably his #1 focus was just don't butcher his guitar parts.

Seems pretty likely! This gig would have been as much of a big deal to him as it was to any of us, and then the rest!

EDIT: And another review is in....

Leah Cevoli, the woman who was on Periscope all the way through sleeping in line outside Tower Records, through getting her wristband & making it to the Troubadour show has posted a new Periscope video of her experience at the show; https://www.periscope.tv/Leah_Cevoli/1kvJpBnAbgbKE

Surprised no one's mentioned the slight stumble on his words here, given how widely this clip's circulated. Comes off like 'youowhereyaare?'. Not slurred as such, just like he's stumbled on the words. It happens, not judging, just amused me a little :) Also, "You know where you are? You gonna die..." Doesn't seem to be any mention of where we are.... hehe :)

I think slash was extremely nervous last night, and just concentrated on his playing, I bet he was relieved to get the first show back over with tbh, so he can get a feel for being back in gnr. But you can bet your ass he's over the moon to be back and excited to get out ontour?

I think you're right, there did seem to be a few nerves - perfectly understandable, this whole thing is a big deal. But I would say, he's never played a show without his hat & shades in years, now, Not entirely sure why he feels the need to 'hide' behind all that these days, he never used to. And also a lot more static than he used to be. Last time I can remember seeing him without hat & shades & actively moving a great deal was the VR days. Would love to see him a little less guarded on this upcoming tour...

Pitchfork laying down their take on the show:
    http://pitchfork.com/news/64553-guns-n-roses-play-first-reunion-show-watch/

It goes to show that the casual fans in the audience likely thought all the people on stage were in the band in the 80's

You'd think that the BBC would get it right, though; http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35950155/guns-n-roses-first-gig-in-23-years

I can sort of forgive them the 'first gig in 23 years' headline as they go on to clarify that to a point, but Axl's 'long blond hair'? ha.

I mean, there's pitchfork calling Izzy the drummer, and then there's (what is supposed to be) the UK's leading news agency doing no research whatsoever.

When it comes to covers, KOHD and LALD will always be there. If Duff does a lead vocal while Axl takes a break, it's gonna be something from TSI. But The Seeker seemed unnecessary in a set where they left out some of their own big hitters.

Now - here's a question... Did they actually do The Seeker in the end, or was it just on the setlist? I didn't hear it mentioned on that Periscope feed from outside the venue, or listed on forums - just seen it written on the set list a fan brought out... but that doesn't necessarily mean they actually played it in the end... Can anyone confirm?

25% of the show was cover songs.

cons - no phones allowed, no Izzy or Adler, no new songs and four covers. Axl's voice got shaky at the end.

While that may be true regarding the cover songs, they are still GNR staples, so I don't know how much of that is a negative thing. Live & Let Die, Heaven's Door have been part of the GNR catalogue for so long. It's like complaining that Aerosmith always do Train Kept A Rollin'. Sure, it's a cover, but it's so ingrained it might as well be their own...

Agree that no Izzy or Steven is a shame, though, but I think it's great that they did a no phones thing. As much as I'd like to see more footage, people with their fucking phones everywhere really can ruin gigs for me, so - even though I wasn't there & would like to be able to view from afar - I applaud them for having a no phone rule.

I was at the Rage Against The Machine Show at Alpine Valley in 2007 and there were several official crew camera dudes capturing the event including a Boom Camera over the audience.  These were not for the big screens either.  Speculation was something official would be released and still to do this day there is nothing from that at all.

Case in point. It's not uncommon at all for bands to film their shows for non-release. It happens all the time.

Maybe the GnR facebook/twitter will post something later today

    I think they probably will, but like I say - any official footage taken will need editing & approving. If anything official comes out, my guess is it goes like this;

The film crew will be editing through the night (ie - like, now) and then they need to run it by the band (or at least management) and then it'll get released to news agencies / the web. I'd be surprised if we don't at least get a 30 second to a minute clip (that was all that was officially released to the public from the Led Zeppelin reunion until the official DVD release a few years after)

Where the fuck's the vids of ChiDem and Better :headbang:

There's no point bitching about the show either, the show was advertised as Axl+Slash+Duff and we got Axl+Slash+Duff

1 - Most people that were at the show will be asleep around now

2 - Security were very strict on 'no phones' - or recording devices of any kind. A few things have leaked, but they are thin on the ground. And I suspect even if anything else surfaces, they will be too. At least until anything official is put out there (assuming they put anything out officially - and if they do, all that will need to be edited & approved before release).

Weird that there aren´t any videos or periscopes from people after the show reviewing the whole thing.

I don't think it's that weird. Consider that people a) stayed out all night the night before to get in line for tickets and b) were warned to leave phones at home and the show got out at.. what - after 2am local time? By the time people got out, got home, got their phones, etc they'd just want to catch up on some sleep. I suspect we'll start seeing reviews when people start waking up again.

This is probably all in my head, but I swear Frank sounded like Slash and Duff gave him some pointers, because Franks groove seems much improved on Paradise City

C'mon... We've had a couple of under 10 second clips. Were you there? I wasn't. I don't think we can judge anything until we hear stuff in more detail... I mean, if you were there, fair play, but I just don't think it's fair to rate or slate Frank (or any of them) based on what few seconds of poor quality phone footage has slipped out.

  11. Looks like a handful of 10 second clips and a couple of photos made it past security. You know what? I'm glad. Much as I'd like to see stuff, mobile phones and the idiots waving them about ruin so much these days. Good for them on enforcing that policy, if only for this one show...

But in the meantime... Any witness reports? And PLEASE - not people speculating from those 10 second clips, my intention for this thread was to hear from people who were actually there...

    Thanks for re-opening @alfierose

Honestly, it's mindboggling how Frank and Richard could want to be part of this, in global limelight as the most unwanted band members in history. The money cannot be worth the humiliation

haha. Good point. The majority is overwhelmingly hopfeful for Izzy & Steven. Got to spare a thought for anyone standing in those shoes & 'getting in the way'.
