The faster / shredding outro of TG is unlikely to be Slash. Could be bucket or bumblefoot perhaps?

Why do you feel it's unlikely that it's Slash? I wouldn't call myself an expert but I have a fairly good understanding of how Slash plays from analyzing his guitar parts to learn them and the TG outro has a lot of signature Slash licks. The shred part is something he does a lot when improvising live and also sounds quite similar to his solo in Straight to Hell by Ozzy Osbourne. And the speed isn't outside Slash's comfort zone either.

It definitely isn't Buckethead. Bucket is a lot cleaner while shredding and he plays some variation of a very recognizable Paul Gilbert-esque legato sequence almost always. I don't think it's Bumblefoot either, he has a very different playing style and tone than what we hear on the song.

You listened to it with headphones now. Don't you recognize Slash's signature playing? Not only the sound but his runs and bends. That's something I haven't heard anybody play like that besides Slash. And Bucket, even if he could replicate it, has his own style. He's recognizable as well. I'd say I hear his songwriting during the verses (I can’t tell which part exactly, because I don't know where to listen to them again, since they aren't on Youtube anymore). Listening to the outro of The General is like looking at a picture of Slash. I don't think it's him, I don't believe it's him... i know it's him

This. I'm quite surprised there are so many people here that are unable to identify Slash's trademark guitar playing and tone that's all over this track and are attributing it to NuGuns guitarists that have styles quite different from Slash's. Save for the end bit of Monsters which is definitely played by Fortus, there's no NuGuns guitarist playing any lead lines on this. And in case they decided to leave some licks in, it is probably hidden under a thousand layers and not easily discernable.

    Headphone listen for The Gen:

Currently digging that talkbox wah thing Slash does at 3.15 on the hip hop breakdown on The General.

Solo at 4 minutes really sounds Bucketish. Slash has excelled himself on this.

And Duff isn't getting many mentions but the bass is quite funky in The General.

Those Beltrami sweeps in the intro. So great to have this in context after 27 years of hearing the classic show intro. The screeching high pitched strings in the bridge!

Brain. What is there to say. The drum rolls at the end of each chorus. Followed by Duffs hip hop bass.

I hear a sitar sounding keyboard effect in verse two.

I wonder who we have on the rhythm parts. I really wouldn't be surprised if there's some Robin still here.

The last solo though ... Dare I say Bucket?

The last solo is 100% Slash. It's got the classic Slash-style legato runs and vibrato. Buckethead's legato runs have a distinct sound to them and that isn't there on this solo.

The outto if the General is undoubtedly 100% Slash. That's as safe as it gets. Monsters on the other hand might have Richard at the end, which I'm still not convinced about it.

The outro solo on Monsters has Slash playing first and then it switches to Richard at the end. The change in tone and playing style is quite noticeable.

Forgot about tonight’s show. From what I saw on Twitter, he sounded fine. I think Slash was playing in Eb, which is funny because some guy on YouTube commented on my cover video insisting that this song would be in standard tuning.

I thought it was standard tuning too when I was trying to figure out the solo yesterday, mainly because the solo starts with an E. But it was quite difficult to do all the double-stop bends clean enough.

After looking at the live performance, it's quite clear that Slash plays it in half-step down tuning. Now my fingers have some relief when I'm trying to play the solo. 😄

However, I have no clue what scale Slash is using. It seems quite random and there are a couple of notes that I feel do not fit the chord progression. Yet, it somehow seems to work.

  6. Amazing Axl vocals and piano! I'll reserve my judgment on Slash's solo till I listen to it on a higher quality stream but it definitely sounds a lot better than the jukebox recordings (duh!).

However, the unison bend that Slash does in the middle of the solo seemed a bit of of place to me when compared to the rest of the solo (almost out of tune). Again, I'll probably need a few more listens to fully dissect the song. So far, I like the song and can't get the chorus out of my head!

I've listened to the leak two times now and really like it a lot, patiently waiting to properly dissect the new vocals. But this video clearly shows the one thing that I find very odd about this version, that Robins first two notes are kept from the old solo being combined with Slash's new one via a very strange cut and paste job. Surely the had to have been a more coherent way of putting that solo together if those first two notes where so important?

It might just be because I'm so familiar with the old solo and that's why it sounds so odd, but it almost sounds like it was live mixed and the engineer left the wrong track playing and changed it a second to late (which obviously didn't happen but illustrates how it sounds).

Even I don't understand why they decided to leave a bit of Robin's solo playing over Slash's, especially when we know that Slash hated Paul Tobias playing over his parts in Sympathy For The Devil. That part of the song just sounds off and isn't timed properly from what I can hear.

I went to the MD show last night and they went on about an hour after doors and played just over two hours.

I've long thought The One You Loved Is Gone has one of his best solos in recent memory and he transformed it into a show stopping performance with the extended improv solo. It was incredible to witness.

Here's my recording of Spirit Love:

Didn't know they started playing this live. Thanks for sharing!
